Menthol Monday:

Omega Wooden Handle
Ming Shi/new Derby
Godrej Menthol Mist-SC
Anherb-AS Conditioner
Lubriderm unscented moisturizer
Quorum-EDT

I cannot believe I finished another SC tube--thank God I have 1 more Godrej Menthol Mist. This is a cream I cannot be without. The Anherb conditioner also worked its menthol magic beautifully.

Today's video is Fatimata, sung by the Sam Mangwana, from Congo-Kinshasa--enjoy!

Monday

GEM OCMM
Gem PTFE aka "Ted Pella" (1)
Omega Pro #49
Monsavon Bol à Raser
Nivea Cool Kick ASB
Brut AS

After a few days of injector shaving 2 razors where calling to me today, the slant sledgehammer and the OCMM, I went for the most aggressive of the 2. The OCMM is a beast in the wrong hands, but take it slow and steady with short strokes and this baby well give you the closet shave ever and don't even think about a slight bit of pressure just let it rest in your grip and let the razor do its work. A fantastic shave smooth as a babys bottom and the Monsavon for how cheap it costs is a wonderful soap as soon as my brush hits the soap volumes of lather are produced. What a great way to start the week .

Monday. Don't want to be too predictable.

Hadn't used one of my DE razors in three months, since I took my Krona as a travel razor back in April. It was about time.
Gillette 1948-50 Super Speed
Gillette 7 O'clock Yellow blade
Vintage Williams
Tweezerman badger
Three passes and touch up didn't get my neck as smooth as an injector, but a bloodless CCS over all. This vintage Williams definitely makes a good, long lasting lather.
I'm on record that the 7 O'clock Yellow was my worst blade, but I had the rest of the pack left, and well, this time it worked fine.

2 Pass URCS ("Unfriggingreal close shave"-actually smoother than BBS-Jeff/Crackstar)

Since my Black Tip Super Speed arrived I haven't missed a day, so I haven't had the opportunity to get a "2 Day Growth Shave"...Until now. I've been doing concerts late at night so I've been getting these incredibly close evening shaves. So Sunday I didn't shave so I could get back on the early morning shave routine this week. Well today the 2 day beard just melted away...The Super-lather did its job and the Super Speed did its, and I got a 1 Pass injector-like BBS...So Close, so easy...) Then a 2nd touch-up pass resulted in what Jeff coined as a URCS...for those shaves closer than BBS..)
I love it...it just gets better and better...)

Razor: Merkur Long Handled Progress
Blade: Super Iridium
Brush: Grosvenor LE
Soap: Proraso with Aloe & Green Tea
A/S: Thayer's Lemon Witch Hazel, Proraso Splash

Very nice DFS+ shave this morning. The Proraso A&GT has earned a permanent place in my rotation. It has a little less menthol than the classic Proraso in the green pot, but it nevertheless provides a pleasant (to me, anyway) cooling tingle plus it has a light, pleasant scent.

The Proraso splash, of course, was a great followup, leaving my face feeling cool and very refreshed.

You're a day off there, Anthony.
If Williams is for Wednesdays, the Tabac is for Tuesdays .

From the looks of your gear, I'd lay odds on it being a pretty darn good shave.

SOTD Monday July 26, 2010

Razor: 11/16 C-Mon Special Full Hollow Spike Point
Shaving Cream: Proraso
Lather Bowl: Ceramic
Scuttle: RAB Ceramic
Brush: Medium Badger
ASB: Nivea Replenishing
Aftershave: Adidas Dynamic Pulse

Very close and comfortable BBS shave this morning. My observations of the Proraso shave cream showed that it provides a great scent and close shave. It has a slight cushion that keeps the razors edge from feeling harsh. I wouldn't say it's a lot of cushion but enough to provide a very comfortable shave. The slip or glide factor wasn't off the charts (compared to MWF) but was plenty adequate to allow the razor to perform its tasks with minimal resistance or hesitation. I didn't use the Pre-Shave Proraso cream as a beard prep before shaving so as to get the pure feeling of the Proraso Shave Cream alone. I think using the pre-shave cream would lubricate the skin and help to provide the extra cushion that would enhance the performance of the SC itself. Proraso shave cream provides an even and lasting lather that has a great scent. I would recommend this SC to anyone that wants a mentholated SC with great performance.

SE day

Sunday night...

GEM MMOC/GEM drugstore blade
Williams soap
VDH boar brush
cold water rinse
Dickenson's witch hazel
Pinaud Clubman AS

Using the MMOC is kind of a trade off. Not as comfortable for me as my DEs but the shave is BBS every time. If I only use it from time to time my face doesn't seem to suffer and I get a really great shave.

Have a great day!

Therein lies the reason I no longer use an SE for more than two day in a row. More than that and my face would start to burn. I do like the closeness I get with the MMOC.

Actually, if you've been paying attention to my SOS posts, weekends are for SEs (both kinds ) - Saturday is for the str8s and Sunday is for the SE safety razors.

Thumbs up Monday shave

Cold water rinse to cool off the face on this hot sunny day.

Didn't let the brush soak again today and better lather than letting it soak.

Strop: 3" black latigo 50 canvas 110 leather
Razor: Thiers Issard 6/8 c135 singing razor
Brushmega 05
Soap: DR Harris lavender
Aftershave: Nivea balm

Cold water rinse and 25 canvas/50 leather strop and then ballistol oil and put away.

I nicknamed this razor "The King" awhile back because it was my best shaver. But after a month of the grelot it's safe to say the king has been dethroned.

Blew outta here in such a hurry I didn't bother to log the SOTD. Yesterday I soaped down my strop with Williams soap and it seemed to do the trick. An absolutely wonderful edge on this razor. A remarkable shave in every way 2 passes BBS.

What's a chopper? Some kind of straight I presume-certain type of edge?

  • menthol boosted Bigelow (for the sake of Menthol Monday)
  • EJ 25mm silvertip
  • Merkur HD
  • yellow Feather (1)
  • Thayer's Rose Petal WH
  • store brand Skin Bracer

Awesome shave! Feathers normally hack me all to hell so I took it really easy and followed the rules to the letter and pulled of a sweet BBS shave. I'm going to rate this 4.75 blades solely on the fact that I had a few weepers, even tip-toing around the Feather. Another two shaves on the blade and it'll be dulled enough to be perfect. Ahhhh, to be a traditional wet shaver.

That looks a lot like a brand new tube of Ingram's...I say that because mine was separated all to heck coming out of the tube so I had to smash it around to try and mix everything back together....but it still is separating. Your tube on the other hand looks nice and smooth and neat...

I think chppers are big wedge razors that can just chop down anything. Hence chopper.

I could be wrong tho, while they are pretty I prefer the singers or my 3/4 blades.

Shave Of The Day - July 26th

Menthol Monday!

  • TSD Iced SubZero Preshave Balm with 3 drops M-Bomb -
  • Music: Buddy Holly
  • Hot Shower
  • E. J. Badger Brush
  • Feats of Clay Scuttle
  • Italian Palmolive Menthol Cream
  • Merkur Futur
  • Dorco ST-301
  • Thayers Witch Hazel/Osage Rub Mix
  • Osage Rub -
  • TSD A/S Splash - Iced SubZero Scent -

The Dorco St-301's are definitely better than the 300's for me, and when I got back into wetshaving they were one of the blades I liked, but the last couple of times I used one they just didn't seem that smooth so I've shied away from them.

Now seeing as how I've picked up a Futur, and reading about the stellar shaves Steve has been getting with them, I thought I would give them another go.

Same results, pulling and tugging, and too many passes to get an acceptable shave for me.

On the bright side the menthol factor was phenomenal today, taking a mediocre shave and bumping it up a notch to 4 blades.

Correct, a chopper is a big hump back wedge that resembles a meat cleaver. The aforementioned Frederick Reynolds chopper is a big thick heavy job that is about 1/4" across the spine. Looks like it would be more suited to cutting firewood than shaving. Beautiful shave though.

55' Gillette Red Tip
Astra SP (5)
Vulfix 2235 S
Home Made PreShave Oil + M-Bomb (3 drops)
TSD English Fern + M-Bomb SS
Superior 70

5 Blades, 4 passes+. Excellent shave. Last Saturday I noticed the salt tank for the water softener was way low, so I added bags of salt. Sunday morning my shave soap mug exploded with so much lather I could have shaved 4 times on it. I guess I never realized my water was hardening.

Wowwwwwwwwwww--what a delightful shave with my supreme favorite of all favorite creams, and a fantastic razor/blade combination. The Booster Mosswood aftershave made me feel like I was sitting on my barber's chair.
