What do you like?
A couple of my favorites are:
St. John's,
Royall Bay Rhum,
Master Bay Rum
I have my eye on the Taylor Bay Rum splash.....
Who has it? How do you like it? What are the ingredients?

Joe, how do you think Master compares with the others? I bought some a few days ago at Sally Beauty and think it's great...doesn't last very long though. Price was sure right at $6+. Thanks.

The price is excellent, and although I prefer the scent of St. John's, I have a soft spot for the Master because its the only Bay-Rum AB/AS with glycerin that I have found (so far - that's why I'm after the Taylor and its ingredient list). I enjoy splashes with glycerin, as they help to moisturize.
On a true scent comparison...the Master is a slightly sweeter "bay oil" scent, but still very enjoyable.
Yes.....The scent is fleeting, but if you "layer"....use a good bay rum SS, follow with a bay rum splash, then coat with an unscented balm of some kind, and apply a cologne....I'll detect traces of the bay well into the late afternoon.
One tip: throw a little of the Master's in a cheap, small atomizer....and keep it at the office or wherever you are during the day and you can freshen up on command ;)
The Royall Bay Rhum is probably the most potent, if you will, initially....and the bracing effect of this one is enhanced with menthol. Good Bay scent here as well. Pricey, however, in comparison to the Master's.

Thanks. For the price though, it's probably just as cheap to buy a second bottle for the office than to get an atomizer! :D

What do you like?
I have my eye on the Taylor Bay Rum splash.....
Who has it? How do you like it? What are the ingredients?
Joe, I have the TOBS Bay Rum splash. It is a much more subtle scent compared to the Pinaud Clubman, but still a bit more "cloveish" than Burts Bees.
Ingredients are:
Aqua, Alcohol Denat, Polysorbate 20, Pimenta Aeris (Bay Oil), Peg-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Caramel, Benzyl Alcohol, Methylehlorisothiazolinone, Magnesium Chloride, Magnesium Nitrate, Methylisothiazolinone, CI 14700 (FD&C Red No. 4).
I probably butchered some of the spellings. The label is printed pretty small, and my bottle has gotten a good bit of use
I find it to be pretty moisturizing, but sometimes steer away from it because of the ingredients. I dont even know what half of that stuff means! Sorry, no glycerin. Its worth a try though if you like Bay Rum, even though its a little pricey.

Thanks Ed, for the info :)
That list isn't TOO disturbing, you are getting the moisturizing effect from the castor oil, I would presume....
It does at least, appear to use actual Bay oil - as opposed to "fragrance" (synthetic)

The GFT Bay Rum quite possibly has the least staying power of any I've tried. It lasts all of 12 seconds on me.
I like to splash MamaBear's BayRum FO directly on my face.
I find it burns away 3 or 4 layers of skin and leaves me looking like I just spent 3 hours staring into the rods of a nuclear reactor.
Oh, and the best thing is it lingers for weeks at a time.

Kids.....do NOT try this at home.

I do like:
Michelsons BayRum AS
SCS BayRum with a twist EdT
and the stuff from Sally's is pretty good and cheap, as well.
I still havent found the Pinaud BayRum, but I am looking.

That Master Bay Rum is some good stuff. I picked up some Pinaud thinking it was the same stuff my barber used, turns out he uses Master. It's a steal for the price at Sally's.

I haven't tried that one, but it does look eerily similar to the Dominica, although the label clearly states this one is distributed by "Body Crystal...whereas Dominica is distributed by CA Antilles. :think002

A couple thoughts - cologne and aftershave different beast, both in terms of scent & ingredients. I especially like the aftershave, its the most moisturizing splash I've used thus far.
The bay-rum scent is very much unlike others I've used....but more on that later :D

So far, I have Master and Royall Bay Rum - plus the Ogallala I ordered today. Oh, and the Goatboy soap. Thought it might be interesting to concoct my own. As I was looking for a Bay Rum aftershave recipe, I came across this article. Thought some of you BR Junkies (who shall remain nameless) might find it interesting.

PS: Got tired of waiting for Joe's full review of Ogallala so I ordered the AS/Cologne 2-pak plus one of those cool 4oz cobalt bottles with the glass stopper (with the aftershave label of course). We shall see...

Sorry, that I wouldn't be able to tell you. The scent lingers during the day well for me and it is not overpowering. At least no one in work has complained yet and I put it on about 10 minutes before heading for my desk. It does not have the burn of some of the others. Then again I use about 1/2 teaspoon at the most.

Sorry :o
I sent my entire Ogallala stash off to Sweden :D But while I only used it 2x (will be re-stocking any day now), I can say that I did enjoy it. Its a complex bay-rum scent, and an extremely enjoyable one at that. Oh, and I would say its much better than Master.
Note, the aftershave is completely different than the Cologne. Completely different scent, ingredients. While they both last a long time, I think that aftershave may have actually lasted longer on my person (its also quite smooth as well, and moisturizing).
The Ogallala is surely one-ofa-kind.
Bottom Line :happy088

I agree. And you really don't need much. I just dabbed my finger on the end of the bottle and applied to my neck just after I posted last night before I went home and the scent lasted me in the car all the way home (1 hour). I got home and asked my wife to sniff and she gave me the thumbs up.

I like the SCS BR w/AT but it was tooooo limey for me.

Michelsons is good as a splash right after the shave but requires some layering
.....Em's BayRum ASB is awesome in tangent with the Michelsons. Very soothing and the scent lasts for hours.

That Michelson's does need layering, I think it has a shorter lifespan than St. John's. How does the Em's smell? (in comparison to the others?)
The Em's BayRum ASB is what I am familiar with.
...... an intoxicating fragrance that lasts and lasts.
I would call it spicier than Michelsons, in that there is a hint of clove or nutmeg.
But when I layer them all together...Its BAYRUM DAY, Baby !!

If only Trumpers Bay Rum had a little more longevity to it. The perfectly balanced Bay Rum to me.

Picked up some Booster Island Bay Rum.
Their other aftershaves are swooned upon by a lot of gents, but this one isn't a hit, at least for me.
Scent lasts even shorter than the Michelson's. And the first note to hit my nose when I splash it one reminds me of ballpark yellow mustard. It gets a bit more complex after that, but still, the first note is an odd one.
As I said, the scent doesn't last very long at all. I would be so bold as to say it doesn't last past me applying my underarm deodorant.
On the plus side, it doesn't sting very much.

Yesterday, I received an order (restocking my stash) of Ogallala Bay Rum aftershave lotion. Included in the package was a free sample of “Bay Rum Limes & Peppercorns Aftershave/Cologne”; so I opened it, sniffed it and splashed some on. Wow! All I can say is its love at first smell. I’ve been having a hard time finding a lime aftershave lotion that I can embrace as a regular option – this is it! I’ll be ordering full size bottles of this stuff ASAP.

Good Morning Guys,
I was ready to try a Bay Rum A/S. So I started looking on Google.
Besides the more commonly known such as Trumpers, etc. look at this list of brands I put together in just about 10 minutes.
St. Lucia Bay Rum
St. John's Bay Rum
Dominica Bay Rum
Caribbean Bay Rum - Body crystal
Bello's Bay Rum
Bois D'inde Caribbean Bay Rum
Oshadhi Bay St. Thomas
Gabels Bay Rum A/S
Honeybee Gardens Herbal A/S Bay Rum
Clubman Virgin Island Bay Rum
Are there any of you that can recommend any of these brands?
Do some have good reputations?
I know Gio has some also.

The Dominica I like, but my favorite is the Ogallala - it is an Old School Bay Rum, The kind you would have received on the day of your monthly bath and shave after driving cattle all week. I really love the smell and agree about the BR Lime and Peppercorns mentioned above. Brilliant!

Ogallala’s Bay Rum and customer service are superlative. John always throws in a few free samples when I make a purchase. Also, I like that he uses witch hazel (as well as alcohol) in the aftershave, I think that it does make a difference in how it conditions my skin.
So far:
Michelsons and
St John's

I also like Ogallala Bay Rum/Sandalwood. It has lasting power, which is mostly attributable to the sandalwood.
