Have just been looking through the Manufactum web site, and I notice that they have Floid Aftershave in both Spanish and Italian versions. What is the difference?

Brian - while both the Spanish and Italian versions are excellent in many ways, I ended up preferring the Italian.
Some primary "generalized" differences:
Spanish - higher alcohol content, sharp scent
Italian - smooth "powdery" barbershop scent
More specifically,
The ingredients vary slightly between the two. Namely, whereas the Italian contains glycerin I don't believe the Spanish does. Moreover, the Spanish contains castor oil, while the Italian does not.
Finally, I believe the Spanish is the true original Floid. It will come down to a matter of preference as to which you will enjoy more, but I think you might even like them both.
What I'm seeking now is the "Floid Blue" ;)

I adore Italian Floid. I have a small bottle, but I hardly ever use it because I'm afraid I'll never be able to replace it. I love the smooth powdery feel it leaves behind. Great stuff.

You guys & gals know that Tryphon Enterprises (http://www.razorandbrush.com/indexbarbieria.html) is importing many of the Italian products for U.S.A. distribution? The shipment is enroute, but you can get a look at what's already available, and what will be soon. Floid is on the aftershave list (http://www.razorandbrush.com/barberiaaftsha.html).

I received an email from Giovanni and he indicated that they hope to have the Italian version of Floid and Floid Blue within a month. He also indicated that they will not have the Spanish version as the Spanish Floid makers have shown no interest. So it looks like manufactum.com if you want the spanish version or a trip to Spain.

Your source must have left the glycerin out. My bottle clearly states it as an important ingredient (third largest concentration, after alcohol denat. and water). It is an excellent aftershave. Menthol-barbershoppy scented and very gentle on the face. Supposed to be the Floid for sensitive skin.

Rather hard to describe, but here's my best shot:

Can't wait for the report Johnnie, you guys are making me want some of this too ;)
Floīd #1 AS: I got hooked on my first shave. My grandfather used it and my father uses it....it has a marvelous smell and a sting (burning) sensation with a cooling feeling at the end. I use the "mentolado vigoroso" 'cause I love that sting affect :001_wub: ... I'm so used to it that I no longer have that strong burning sensation I had in the beginning.
I think that when people say Floīd Blue they mean that they are using the "mentolado suave" (mild mentholated)..these words are hi-lited in blue on the box (see Emilio's review-http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=15163) and the "mentolado vigoroso" (vigorous mentholated) is hi-lited in orange.
These two (suave & vigoroso) have the same ingredients with the only difference in the concentration of Menthol; "vigoroso" having more, giving it a different smell and a stronger sting ("sting like a bee, float like...") . I'm going to try the Italian one to see the difference.
The distributor in Spain is www.thecolomergroup.com.
For those overseas, USA and Canada. Maybe one way in getting a hold of this Floīd is finding out if there is a Spanish (not South American) store where you live. There will be a higher % in having one if where you live there are a lot of Spaniards. Look for Spanish clubs where you can ask if there are stores like this. I used to live in Toronto and there was one Spanish store with this stuff....another way is getting a hold of a Spanish person (most likely he'll go to Spain sooner or later) and tell him/her to get you some......don't forget to specify "suave" or "vigoroso".
You can also get it via internet but I think it will cost more the shipment than the product:
http://www.manufactum.co.uk/group/174353/Product_List.2699.0.html
In this link Floīd is not indicated but most likely you can order it

Hi Paco,
the Floid Blue is the Italian version of the Floid, as you can see at this page:

Hope that helps...;)

Thanks for info, paco, and welcome to the Shave Den!
Thanks Thomas for that web page ;) . It looks like even the Italian Floid bottles are totally different from the Spanish ones. In that web page I also see the orange liquid floid bottle; I am wondering if the orange Italian bottle is the same as the Spanish one and which one? 'cause here we have two types, the "vigoroso" and the "mentolado".....have to try the Italian bottles.
For the ones in Toronto; it seems that the store I mentioned before closed but there is one in Mississauga, "Sol de Espaņa"; 550 Lakeshore Rd E (905) 274-2109. Check it out to see if they have floid. You can also contact the Spanish club "Club Hispano" in 3465 Dundas St. W (416) 760-7210, maybe someone in there can tell you where to get it. Another option is Montreal; much much much more Spaniards in that city than Toronto...maybe more Spanish stores?..maybe at least one will have Floid?

So I've got a question... Or rather, let me see if I've got this right-
Floid makes a total of 4 aftershaves.
In the pictures below, they are in order of-
1) Italian-top left
2) Spanish- top right
3) Mentolado- bottom left
4) This is what's called Floid Blue- bottom right
Is that correct?

Correct, Actually to clarify one step further.....number 2 is the "new" label/look, and number 3 is the "old" style.
Note however, that there are 2 versions of spanish floid, according to the menthol intensity

Last time I dealt with him he only found one version. It was the one with the silver sign. I can ask him. The two versions, do ou mean the blue one with "extra menthol"?
What I forgot in my former post: I need someone of you who receives the collected order and manages the shipping to the others of you.
I can take care of that part, if everyone is cool with that (receiving the shipment and then re-shipping the individual orders out).
Yes, I mean the blue "Extra Menthol" version as well as the "Standard" version.

I'm interested in the Italian version, but wouldn't complain either way. Count me in for the group buy.

Hey, if it helps me get some Floid in my hands (and on my face) then I'm all about it. ;)
All I ask is that you bear with me, as if this happens and everyone agrees, it will be my first exposure to that aspect of a "Group Buy."

Update from Spain: Just regular is available. the blue one not.

The blue one is the extra menthol version, correct?
If so, that's a big old :( from me. The regular version will have to do. I still need to try and score some of the blue version one day.
Herzi, you might want to start a new thread on this subject, just to make it official, and so we can keep better track of information, etc. Just a thought.

Sol de Espana does not carry Floid. :sad024
I will be working on finding a source for this elixir in the Toronto area regardless.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but "regular" = full strength, and "blue"/"suave"(variant of spanish) is the mild-menthol version.

As far as I know the blue one has more menthol. But I haven't tried it.

I think I read it one some message somewhere.. but can't recall.
Does anyone know if this is available in Portugal? My friends girlfriend is there on vacation with her family, and I am going to shortly place an order, and I do not want to have her running from store to store if it's not even something that's available considering she is doing me this favour.
Essentially, if Floids is available, the order will be as many as she is comfortable bring back with her. :D
Otherwise, anyone have any suggestions on what shaving stuffs is worth bring back from that country?
For the other local Torontonian (I believe Dave / Smedley) trying to source the Floids.. if I get some from her, I would be happy to arrange to get some to you, as you suffer the same shipping issues I do. :)

Any update on the scent variations of regular Italian Floid Vs. Floid Blue. I took the plunge and picked up a big honkin 400ml bottle of original Italian Floid after trying a small decant of it.
I've found that it performs very well, but it's a bit too "powdery" of a scent for me. I'm not allergic or anything, but I tend to sneeze quite a bit throughout the day when I wear it. I'm wondering what the Floid Blue smells like compared to the original? Is it the same powdery/anise scent, or something different since it's supposed to be for sensitive skin?

Do a CWR after it settles down (1-2 minutes?), it'll tone it down nicely for you ;)

Wouldn't a cold water rinse just reduce the benefits from the as? Meaning, wouldn't I have to moisturize again b/c the CWR just removed all the glycerin?
I have a small decant of the Floid Blue, and to me it smells a bit like AV at first, w/a bit of a powdery scent after a while. Not nearly as much of a powdery scent of the original IF.
However, the big deal was when the wifey sniffed me. When she smelled me wearing original Floid it was a "it smells ok", but when I used Floid blue it was "mmmm, what are you wearing". ...think I've got a winner here.

No.
After you shave, anything (or at least most) you put on your face gets soaked in pretty quick. You won't be "rinsing" away the glycerin. In fact, glycerin likes water (its a humectant)
Give it a rinse, bro
