Today I went to visit my grandfather (well, he's just 'round the corner ;) ). Suddenly it came to me and I asked him if he still had that old DE lying around I remembered from my earlier days and if I could have a look at it. It turned out he still had it and not only did he let me look at it, he also gave it to me as he's an electric-man now.
After cleaning it thoroughly I now have a 1962 (H-4) Gillette tech of German make in near-mint condition. Will give it a try tomorra with a new feather-blade. :D

eShave waited six days after Chris ordered, to send him an email saying they were out of stock on the brush. Then he received 2 more emails saying the items would arrive early the next week(s).
The set was ordered on the 20th of Feb, and finally arrived the 20th of March. Only 2 or 3 of those days was shipping time. :(

I present the Rudolf Schmidt
Il Vero Rasojo Antisettico 205
Straight Razor.
Registered 14 June 1922
Original packaging bears the name Dr. Pietro Cossimo: Locri
Manufactured by Rudolf Schmidt: Solingen Germany
info from the auction:
The razor is as mint as the day it was bought some 70 years ago. It was kept covered in a thin layer of machine oil and covered in barbers talc! When the talc was wiped away and the blade cleaned prior to photography the result was breathtaking! The blade was revelationary at the time in its slightly dull antiseptic treated appearance. The etching on the blade stands out as if on a mirror. No words nor photographs can adequately descrive the beauty of this item: It must be held in the hands and seen and felt.
The handles have white solid colour celluoid scales silver inlaid logo. Hinge Pin Double riveting. Vintage is set circa 1922.

I send it off to Lynn Abrams the hone Maestro to have it honed and today it finally arrived according to Lynn its a nice shaver but I cant take it for a test drive today and not sure if I can tommorow perhaps the weekend.
it may look as if the blade is rippled or metal shatter but that is oil on the blade reflecting, the blade is in new condition ...after I wiped the oil off but didnt havel the energy to take new shots.......

How do you like the smell of the Conk Bay rum?
Good question - its quite mysterious straight out of the bottle (strong), so we'll have to wait for a first application to see how it goes.
**Of the bunch above, a few of the standouts are the Gabel's Bay Rum, the Master Lord & Master, and the Master Musk
Funny - they sent the Musk by mistake, it was supposed to be Spice....but I'm glad they messed up - its the best Musk I ever smelt.

Klaus - Very cool!:happy088 Used for your straights too?
Thanks, Joe :D
Well, yes, you can use it for the straights too. Handy for old ones from the flea market or ebay as it easily cleans even the toughest to get at -spots in the scales.
Also great for glasses, fountain-pens, jewelry, coins, 3rd teeth, pocket knives...

Thank you kindly, Rene ::
Actually, cleaning the DEs was also the main reason for me. :D
The liquid bottle is a standard cleaning-fluid for pretty much everything, glasses, jewqelry, DEs, straights...
The Emmi 5 is actually the smallest model they have (of the digital cleaners, that is), but it's just the right size for "household-use". I scored it off ebay, new and unused from a merchant. Paid 91€ shipped, normally this one costs ~110-120€ before shipping
Great haul, Baloosh! ::

Is there a reason Klaus you chose for this model ?
there are many models out there even models that go as low as 30 euro sometimes you can have ebay bargains from an ignorant seller,buyer...
I think these will go soon as much as the make your own bread baking machines went but this one will actaully see much use def. super handy for my De's and straights didnt even think of the straights ! those are more painfull to clean.
Can you post for us a before and after pic of a DE make it really dirty with lots of calcium spots on the DE and then use the cleaner .
To me its one of those TV dinners commercials..you know the TellSell stuff this bed is the best bed in the world blows itself up etc..etc so Im hesitant if it works..proof me wrong Klause...BITTE Mach das gut .. :D

You're right, Rene, there are many so-called ultrasonic-cleaners out there for very little money. But those aren't ultrasonic-cleaners ;) They've got a little motor inside that shakes the thing around, but in the end running water would be more efficient than these things ;)
~100 € is the entry-cost into the world of "real" digitally controlled ultrasonic-cleaners, everything else is sheer crap. Emag also offers an analogue lowest-end model for ~70€ but that's as cheap as it gets.
The reason why I went for this model is that it's the best machine in regards to price/performance. Other companies don't even offer their entry-models below 180€ or so and they're weaker in performance...
All I can say is that these professional cleaners are used by watch-makers and opticians to clean their products, by doctors to sterilise their stuff and many more professions. They really do work.
Today I cleaned up an old Pelikan fountain pen I once purchased off ebay. The nib had unremovable stains and the inside of the cap was black because of old ink - I could never get it to shine. 6 minutes in the cleaner and the pen looks like new, the insides of the cap are relieved of the decades-old ink.
Give me a few days/weeks and I'll post some pics when I'm cleaning my DEs for the next time :)
Or, maybe I'll try to get a DE really dirty today, let's see if it works that way :D
all the best,
Klaus ::

update: I'm currently working on some pics before/afterwards of
a) an old, over-used razor-cartridge
b) a corroded, filthy zippo-wannabe
Oh, and to give this post some sense:
today I received 25g of Lanolin (for my dry skin) from carbolicsoap.com :D
moviemaniac
03-23-2007, 02:19 PM
well, ladies and gentlemen, there you go. Both items cleaned up nicely - the pics just don't do them justice (especially the cartridge - in reality it looks like brand-new now!). 95% of the rust and the corrosion on the lighter went away - they'd be completely gone if I had worked manually on it before to get the biggest junks of dirt out. But if I now give it a minute with a cotton bud it'll look like brand new.
There are still some hairs in the cartridge from the last time I used it to trim my chin-beard a coupla years back. But that's not the fault of the ultrasonic-cleaner, they're here to get rid of the very fine dirt and they just can't move those big hairs that are trapped inside.
But now for the pics:
(they could've been sharper, but I forgot I had set an ISO-level of 1600  )

too bad I couldn't take good pics of the insides of the insert and the case - they were far messier than the outside but cleaned up equally well. Would've taken me 2 hours manually for the whole lighter - did it in 3x 5minutes with that little machine - without getting my hands dirty and I could go on about my work while the cleaner was doing its thing

6 tubes Fax Sport shaving cream
6 tubes Fax Sensitive shaving cream
I'll keep 1 of each variety for myself, and send away the others to a few special friends of mine here. This brand seems to be a twin of Arko shaving cream, except that the tubes are smaller, but the packaging is quite similar. I took a test lathering just now with the Fax Sensitive, and it seems like it has a richer lather, and a better substance--gosh is that possible?

The AP series looks awesome, I really like the looks of the handle.....however it doesn't seem as ergonomic/useful as the BK handles.

I'll tell you one thing, bud - they really spoil you with the presentation....usually I'm not one to care, but these guys really do it right :happy088
I am very impressed, however, with the quality of this brush...in terms of feel, ergonomics, and softness of the bristle. Its exactly what I hoped it will be - let's see how the lathering goes :D
Speaking of the case - are these suitable for use as travel containers?
As a BK8 owner I can fore tell the future TJ you will never sell that brush again.

Michael has ruined me. :D
I made a lather (two actually :drool) with the BK4, as a test. I already have a BK8 on the way, from a trade.......and I am now convinced I need the BK12 as well :sad027:scared011

Are these brushes really that good? I've read they can be a bit on the floppy side...
Thanks :D
Floppy depending on what you are comparing it to....compared to a SR 3XXX, these are mops. However, I am growing somewhat fond of floppy brushes (thats not to say I don't like a good, dense, firm brush); its a different kind of luxury. I just like brushes :D
The Kent is very addicting, be careful ;)

Back from Texas! I feel like John Wayne now. I bought a nice pair of Justin boots in Hillsboro, and got some baccy at Heroes & Legacies in Austin.
The coolest thing, though, was being able to bring back my grandpa's rifles that my mom left me when she died in '01. My dad had been saving them for me, and I brought both home on this trip.
Oh, and when I got back, I had some QED Wild Rose soap waiting I got from Larry Bob over at TOP. I was supposed to have a Tony Miller strop, but no show. I hope it is at the P.O., since we had our mail held while we were gone. I'm a little nervous because there was no pickup card in the bundle.

Thanks Joe,
I deleted my post, I forgot about the thread on the Kent brushes and just re-read it.
I have the B&B in finest and a Shavemac 23mm Silvertip, comparing the two my B&B is quite a bit floppier than the Shavemac...not that that's a bad thing, just different as you had mentioned.
Reading Michaels thread on the Kents, it sounds like the B&B and the BK8 seem to be quite similar, which may save me some money as that is the one I was considering.
If I do end up getting one I will make sure to tell them Michael sent me and you too..:D
Thanks!!

OH No ! Big Bigger Biggest , Humongous Giganticus !!! that is what the BK12 is.
I didnt know you lathered your Chest aswell TJ ! :rofl :rofl
that would be the only reasons to get a BK12.
It is seriously huge TJ , I would really like you to do a test with the BK4 and BK8
and specially on cream consumption I find I can make easy lather with the Muhle superbadger with a certain amount of cream but the same cream just gets eaten up by the BK8 so the BK8 def. needs more cream to generate the same amount of lather would that make sense ?
Law of lather making.
X equals Knotsize versus Y Badger hair type * amount of lather cream density in milligram = Lather amount in volume ?
You be my Math prof. TJ and try it out BK4 vs BK8

Congratulations on the BK4, Joe!
I've got one of those too and it's a GREAT brush, I simply adore it!
Have fun! ::
Oh, besides, the discount code doesn't seem to work anymore. Tried it last week but they didn't accept it...
