It's an extra-mentholated cream, made by Tryphon, that you can add to any shaving soap or cream.

I made some, called Frostbite, for Baloosh. I think Jason has the Menth-o-lator, too. Perhaps, he'd grace us with a comparison of the two.

I haven't added Frostbite to the store, and not sure if I should/will. So a side-by-side review would be nice.

Blade: Iridium Super Extra Stainless (shave 5)
Oil Pass: Leisureguy's Last-Pass Shave Oil
A/S: Thayer's Rose Petal Witch Hazel Toner & Nivea Extra Soothing ASB

Result: WOW!! Today's shave was unbelieveable. BBS on shave 5! Alas, it is the last shave for that wonderful blade due to some tugging noticeable on the ATG pass. Still I love the Iridium blades. The TSD Sweetgrass cream is growing on me. Only one more shave in the sample container and I think I like it. Has a definite cinnamon scent to it. Lathers really great as well.

Indeed I do have both. They are both not really stand-alone creams, more like add-ins that you use to spice up your soap/cream lather. The Tryphon adds a nice Menthol kick -- good and heavy, but Jo's Frostbite is inCREDibe in it's cooling effect. There's really no comparison, when we're talking straight "freeze your face" sensation. When she made it for me, she mentioned it was something like 20x the regular amount of Menthol she would normally add, and she asked me to "be careful" with it. Oh dear, dear girl, I thought... that's like asking a crackhead to "be careful" with this big bag of crack sitting out. :D

Osage Rub's got nothing on it. The only thing I can think of that might come close is the My Time Bath & Body 10/10 Menthol cream, but I've not tried that one yet (haven't ordered from there) so I don't have any experience with that cream. I'm just basing that off the reviews/comments of guys who have tried the B&BW cream. But Jo's Frostbite add-in blows Tryphon's Permafrost away, the Menth-o-later away, and everything else I've ever tried away. Ingram's? Nothing. Proraso? Less than nothing. Italian Palmolive? Hah. Try again.

One should only use it if one REALLY wants the Menthol kick in the shave. It pretty much dominates the shave... and for me, I wouldn't have it any other way!:cool:

The new King of Shaves Azor razor did a great job on my cheeks and chin. However, it worked terribly on my neck. Perhaps it's the angle of the head geometry, combined with the fact that my neck hairs basically lay almost parallel to my skin, but I couldn't get the blades to cut my neck hair at all. I'll keep trying it with both traditional creams/soaps as well as the KoS gel/serum solutions, but I had to move to the Progress to do my neck. But as I said, it did a perfect, irritation-free job on the rest of my beard area.

the Lord razor is also good for a nice, quick shave, but it's definitely not as mild as a Weishi. The Blix Fresh cream looks and lathers so much like Euro Classic Palmolive cream, but the menthol is what makes it different, although it's not a strong menthol feeling. The Vifrex gel magnifies the cooling sensation beautifully, and leaves my skin feeling very well-cared for. ;) :D

There's a fence in that photo??

Geez, those TSD products are of the early variety (read old:p) I haven't used those white labels in forever. Need to make you an aftershave in the xCellent scent. Haven't found the recipe, but it should be pretty easy to replicate.

That brush is sweet looking.

Well, I did crop the photo to keep the equipment as the center of focus. But, I needed something to drape the strop over! :D

Yeah, I got these from you over a year ago. :ashamed001 I have so much stuff to rotate through that sometimes items start gathering dust before they come back around! I would definitely enjoy matching aftershave. Just let me know when to pay. I could also mail the cream back to you to help match it if needed.

I've got a Joe Chandler restored razor with olivewood scales coated in CA for a high gloss. Looks like I'll post another photo today (Whoa! two SoS photos in the same week from me! :D) to show them together too.

Prep: Rite Aid Skin Cleansing Cream & Hot Towel
Brush: C&E BBB
Cream: T&H 1805
Razor: GEM Featherweight for face & Braun 7526 electric for head
Blade: Ted Pella PTFE coated SE (shave 3)
Oil Pass: Leisureguy's Last-Pass Shave Oil
A/S: Thayer's Lavender Witch Hazel Toner & Nivea Senstive ASB

Result: Amazing, amazing, amazing! The Pella blade still shave like it is brand new. By this time I am usually feeling major tugging or pulling with a SE blade and I don't feel any reduction on pass 1. With the Pella blade I almost skipped the last ATG pass because the blade had done a great job of reduction at that point. Did the ATG pass and found that I needed minimal blade buffing with the Oil Pass. I am finding the "plastic handle" GEM Featherweight to be quite a good shaver (sorry D.Iriving79). Like the GEM lather catcher and 1912 models this razor works very well with the Pella blades. Finally I shave for the second time with the T&H cream. What a lather with not much cream. And the scent is just great. This was indeed an enjoyable and comfortable BBS shave for the 3rd day in a row with a GEM/Pella set up.

The IK was nice today. I still don't know whether to call it "lather" or moisturizing cream. That notwithstanding, it's some slick stuff!

I've been experimenting with a small splash bottle of Harris Pink and Milk (new formula) mixed 50/50. So far, I'm liking it. It has a nice consistency, a great fragrance and a pale pink color.

Today (Sat., September 20) I used my Merkur 33c with a Dorco blade. Williams soap and Real Shave Cream (for sensitive skin). I tried my new synthetic Omega brush and it will probably be the LAST time I use it as well as the first - very disappointing. I then finished off using low-alcohol Canoe Aftershave and Canoe Cologne.

Hiya rodd,
So, tryin the old straight and narrow eh? So far I'm maintaining my immunity towards that particular tool, but who knows for how long.

I'm sure you know about that bit of a learning curve, but some new members may not be aware that it can take anywhere from 6-8 shaves before you're considered an expert. I just can't make that type of commitment at this time, although it does seem easy and the shaves are supposed to be good.
Good luck with that,
Martin
