Does your kid sleep walk? My 3 y.o. does and it freaks the hell out of me every time. He just gets up out of bed and walks around the house until he gets in a corner of sorts and then whimpers loud enough to wake me. Then when I go out to get him he is just a 3 y.o. whimpering statue holding his stuffed animal. It is really creepy.

Remember the end of Halloween when young Michael Meyers was standing on the front steps in his clown costume just staring blankly. Well that is what this looks like and trust me if that gave you the willies seeing it in person will make the hair stand up on you.:(

My child doesn't awake walk.

That does sound creepy though. Have you talked to the dr? Is there anyway to keep him in bed safely?

Talked to the doc and he said he should grow out of it. And aside from keeping his room clean, so he does not trip on anything, there really is no way to keep him in bed.

We keep his bed time accurate and try to limit his late night food and all that but nothing seems to help. I notice that he sweats alot when he walks so I try to keep him cool and not overheated but even that is hit and miss.

I think he's been doing this since he was 1.5 or 2.

Just really creepy cause he is just as stiff as a board when I pick him up, but light as a feather, no pun intended. Really weird. As soon as he gets back in bed or in my arms he falls right back to sleep.

That is weird. My daughter has Cerebral Palsy, so stiff? Yeah, I'm no stranger to the concept. But she is the heaviest 28 pounds I've ever carried.

I used to sleep walk all the time. Sometimes I'd wake up in different places than when i went to sleep, other times I had taken my pillow or blanket and put them in other rooms of the house only to wake up in the middle of the night to have to go search for them.

I've even interacted with people and had conversations, but they said that I tended to grunt alot. I've even eaten meals in my sleep as odd as that is. For the most part, I've grown out of it, but once in awhile I'll still sleepwalk.

Safe to say, I will never sleep in the nude.

OOOOhhhh. I take the cake for this one. When I was young, somewhere around the age of 3 I believe. I too would sleep walk. Rather than whimpering and standing in a corner, I would wonder around the house and pee on things. This all came to a wonderful culmination as I wondered out late at night during a family party and made it to the kitchen. I was told that I talked to some people during the trip. I than proceded to the garbage pail under the sink, opened the cabinet, pulled it out, and well... pulled it out. I peed in the garbage pail. Than again, I also rolled off the changing table once :whacky011

Believe it or not that is very common for young kids. The urinating is uncomon though.

A lot of people do a lot of things in their sleep because their subconcious mind takes over. I think it has to do with how your brain uses sleep time to move information from your short term to your long term memory. I think it has something to do with a young childs brain being extremely active, even while their sleeping and in some way their subconcious takes over while theyre sleeping and they do strange things. It is pretty common from what I hear.

Sleep walking, talking, driving, running, sex etc. have all been recorded. Granted the more extreme of these are rare conditions. People have been run over while sleep running, people have been videotaped eating while sleeping, people have even crashed while asleep.

The real freaky ones are the night terrors where you act out your nightmares. People literally scream and run through the house as if being chased by some evil thing only to run into walls or doors or something and really hurt themselves.

All of these events are usually associated with amnesia for the event.

I don't know either...

Not for science but for medical reasons.

Take him in for a sleep study. I would imagine they might have a difficyult time administering the study though. I can't imagine any 3 y.o. letting the sleep tech hook all the wires required to administer a sleep study. I have obstructive sleep apnea and have to go in for a sleep study every year. I've been known to sleep walk and sleep cook/eat. In an apartment I used to live in my neighbors actually complained to the homeowners association because they could hear me snoring through the walls. Another house I lived in one of my neighbors would find me asleep standing in the middle of the road or in my lawn. Thank God I lived in a culdesac and not a busy highway. Sleeping is quite often very eventful for me. Sometimes I dread bed time in fear of what kind of night I might have. Thankfully I've never hurt myself or anybody else.

I hope he outgrows it soon. That would be scary. Closest story I have is drinking related.

Try meditation. Guided actually. You can buy a CD and do it during your bedtime routine.
It works great for me when I am having problems and it may help with the dread of sleep.

They do not do studies on kids, the just give them sedatives to knock them out.

I dunno, when my wife found the mess in the morning she came into the bedroom to wake me up with a rather loud WTF??? is that mess in the kitchen. I pretty much had different odds and ends out of the fridge (they were all spoiled by morning) she found milk in the pantry, cooking oil in the freezer the crock pot out on the counter plugged in and just an all around mess. She still reminds me of the mess I made and its usually at a time where she can embarrass me about it. I have no memory of any of it except for the shreeking WTF when she woke me up.
