I voted! I like supporting ham radio operators (being one myself, I'm a wee bit biased)!

Hey you guys know if there's still a K3QYL out there? Guy named Tom. I roomed with him briefly while I was in school in the 60's.

It's funny what we remember, but every so often, "K3QYL Portable 4" will pop into my head. No idea what that means. I haven't been in touch with him since then and I'm sure he wouldn't remember me. He was quite a bit older than I was and would have to be in his 80's by now. Just curious.

I just ran his call sign on the QRZ database and it's not there. It is possible that he upgraded his license and his call sign changed, do you remember his name? If you do I will do a search for his name there as well.

By the way, the votes helped, I won in yesterdays voting, but am still one point behind. I need to win the next 3 days if I'm to move up in this round. Thanks for voting!

Thanks, Tony. I believe his last name is Shavney, but the spelling could be wrong. It's been a very long time!

It's towards the bottom of their page, should have a list of 4 or 5 names underneath a box for your email address. Just check whichever box next to the page you're voting for and click "cast your magic" (how they have it on this arena anyway).

Tied for first with two more days to go this week. Appreciate the support!

There are 2 Shavney's listed, a Donald J. from Devon, PA and a Peter from San Antonio Texas.

Thanks again, Tony, but since this thread reminded me of someone I hadn't seen since the 60's, I did a little digging myself. I found an obituary from 1992 which sounds like the same fellow. He was only 58.

Wow, sorry to hear that your friend is a "silent key". At least we tried.
