So...

I found a sushi place today. Decent prices and actually had a sushi bar. What was really interesting is that they had a $20 all you can eat sushi, and im talking real sushi not the roll kind. I was pretty excited to find this place.

Then I leave, and see an In-N-Out burger across the ways...good day indeed.

I think this might need some explanation or this thread may go sideways.

$20 is a heck of a deal. Unfortunately we have no all you can eat sushi joints in Austin, but there is one is Dallas (Plano) that I'll be hitting up this weekend.

Still, nothing beats finding a good fish supplier and making your own :D

Well we had a 20lb tuna up in the collections lab. They are actually the most hydrodynamic fish in the ocean and can reach speeds of 45mph+. Their dorsal and pectoral fins actually fold into cavitys within their body to make them more hydrodynamic. Also, the only part of a the fish that can move independently of the body is the rear fin which propels the fish. The ligments that went to the tail were probably 2"-3" in diameter on each side of the tail. They travel up to huge amounts of striated red muscles which make up 90% of the fish. Theyre cool, and sushi still tastes funny.

Very cool indeed...there used to be a sushi joint that served up ¥100 per plate at lunch-time. The place was never packed, though in the evenings you could wait up to an hour to get a seat...long story short the chef found employement elsewhere and the place was never the same again including the ¥100 per plate specials...oh well there about a bajillion joints that serve up the goods out here, but none at ¥100 per plate.

Sushi? Maybe I am the only one here who wonders just how hard is it to not cook the fish?

A lot harder than you think if you want it to be appetizing and safe to eat.

Fresh seafood in Arizona?! Why do I have a hard time believing that? :sick007Why is fresh fish in Arizona any less probable than in... say... Chicago or Boston... there's not a lot of fresh-caught Tuna or Salmon or Shrimp in the waters near these cities either.

Isn't sushi fish, eels, and other assorted sea creatures flown to destination cities which have distributors that deliver it daily to the sushi restaurants? I can't imagine it working any other way. I can't speak for Tuscon per se, but I'd guess there are at least 50 resturants in the Pheonix area that have sushi on the menu and Tucson is only a 100 miles +/-.

I love sushi, but they sell it around here by each tiny piece.

After spending 4 months in japan I have very hard time paying the 4 dollars for two pieces of sushi here in the states. In japan you can get it for like 1.20 for two pieces. I miss that place.

Sometimes, I hhad some bad stuff there a few times, the key is finding the little mom and pop places that only the locals eat at.

I had good luck at the 100 yen places. The massive conveyor was impressive.
