Many, many years ago in a former lifetime I was a car salesman. As you may know, most car salesman pretty much live from check to check. I seemed to handle it better than most so I usually floated some of the others loans in that final week before the monthly check came out ... with a substantial chunk of interest, of course. :D
Thus, the name Guido was stuck upon me. Interestingly enough, a few years earlier someone in college used to call me by that same nickname for some unknown reason. But, it became widely used after the salesman stint.
The Asylum part comes from a site I was a member of starting in 2000, the Fantasy Asylum, a fantasy football site. I was simply known as Guido there, as I am on a few other sites. I was forced to use AsylumGuido on a few new sites since Guido was already in use. I now register as that anywhere new since it appears to always be unique.

I like Pez...
My name is a play on Pez D. Spencer (pez dispenser)
(I even have personalized plates on my car that read PEZ)
I think I have finally convinced the wife to get MRS PEZ for her birthday.

In the dark ages, the time before internet was in every mans home, I used BBS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bulletin_board_system)'s, and I always signed up with Wintermute (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wintermute). The name Wintermute comes from William Gibsons novel Neuromancer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neuromancer). Once internet appeared it became harder to sign up with Wintermute so one time when I was thinking of an alternative, since Wintermute was taken, I put in Mastermute.... and it has stuck with me ever since...

Mine is fairly uncreative actually. Hawaii's state wide zip code is 808 and Hawaii is often referred to by Hawaii residents as the 808 State (among other names) My first name is Chaney so I just decided to use 808Chaney instead of HawaiiChaney.

First name is Blair, and the Palmetto is the state tree and symbol on the state flag of South Carolina, so Palmetto and "B," first initial. I used it on Ebay for a long time, and it has been a good screen name to use. It'll be the same on any of the shaving forums. ;)

freemartin
07-23-2008, 05:05 AM
To those who don't understand why at least one member thought it ironic that I wouldn't use a product called "Nancy Boy" (ref: to my member intro discussion)
Freemartin comes from Aldous Huxley's "A Brave New World". To the gist: the "Civilized" world, in this cautionary tale of the future, consists of 3 sexes: Male, Female, and Freemartins: basically non-sexual people.
That inspired the name of a Goth/Punk/Emo band that I was in during the late '90's, and I've just kind of used the name for online stuff ever since, even though I have quit wearing eyeliner and shiny pleather in my 20's.
I now embrace masculine, gentlemanly, and blue-collar pursuits, like: beard growing, shaving said beard, working on cars, chest hair growing, home remodeling, Renaissance Festivals, sweating, Pompador Coifing, Formula 1 racing, grunting, gambling, scratching, kilt wearing, morning constitutionals, antiquing, classic country music, etc., etc.
Well, I'm still wierd,:signs047: but I'm no nancy boy, and damn proud of it!

SuperSpeed
08-19-2008, 09:31 PM
Well, if you MUST know...
I think the Gillette Super Speed is one of those quintessential razors which everyone should have (at least ONE of) in their rotation!
The Super Speed was my first venture into "rediscovering" wetshaving. Back when I first chose to use DE blades (not counting my adolescent years when I had to use them), sometime in the 1980s I believe, I "learned" on a Merkur Slant and their blades!!!
So, in homage to this excellent razor design, I named myself "SuperSpeed." Until very recently, my "title" here at the forum was "Super Speedy," which I unfortunately posted enough to lose. :(

Hi All,
The way I migrated to this 'hobby' was an innocent one....heh. It's been almost two years now, and my 'enthusiasm' for shaving (what a goofy thing) hasn't diminished much at all (if any).
My name's a take off on WIS, and some of you members probably know what that's all about. Yeah, I found these shaving forums through a watch forum(s) I used to frequent. The endearing term used for a watch 'enthusiast' is 'Watch Idiot Savant'.
So, there you go,

Eagle
08-24-2008, 11:31 PM
I hate the pressure of trying to come up with catchy, cutesy names on all these websites. I chose Eagle for a couple reasons. First I dig birds of prey (I even like that title-bird of prey). Falcons, Eagles, Hawks, Ospreys and so on are just cool birds. Second, it is the symbol of the USA, and I have been serving her for many years both in the military and various LE agencies so I thought it fitting. Third, it always seems to be available. Somebody always has a variation on Eagle: LoneEagle, LegalEagle, EagleFlies etc. But nobody ever just picks Eagle which is good for me.
Eagle out.

Hi Shep,
Welcome aboard, enjoy the ride. This is a great place! ;)
Thank you for your service, and since you like Eagles (and other birds of prey), you might want to check out our website below...we have a young Bald Eagle in rehabilitation right now!
That's me holding him on the home page of our website, and my avatar is the LAST Bald Eagle we treated (and released)...pics and video on the website under "Rehab Stories," "Bald Eagle Rehabilitated."
While I may be (relatively) BALD, I am no EAGLE! It is a distinct pleasure working with Raptors, which are our specialty.
All the best,

LOL, I am also known to be a *bit* of a grammar-cop. I think I edited my post (when I caught my typo) about one second before you quoted me.
I have tried to pull back on the grammar-cop ways, as this less formal meeting place called the internet seems to have relaxed the rules of the written word.
I just think that in a place discussing an adult habit/hobby such as cigar smoking (or shaving, for that matter) it is not too much to ask people to write (speak?) like adults. You know, shows respect for yourself, your audience, and the topic. I never expect (or want!) perfection, jsut a BIT of attention to what one is writing.
Just a quirk of mine. Everyone should (AND DOES!!!) feel free to ignore it.

08-25-2008, 11:46 PM
When my Ma was in the hospital for some major heart stuff 8 years ago I got hooked on the tune "Soulshine" as sung by Government Mule - I listened to it just about every day. At the same time I began trading bootleg Black Crowes shows. I found trades were often times best received when submitted as "Soulshine" in comparison to "Bob from WI." If you happen to travel to a Black Crowes gig around WI, MN or IL and ask where Soulshine is there may very well be some folk there who can track me down.

If you're referring to "use", as opposed to "used", I actually asked a friend about the correct form right after I posted that. :o But I didn't edit it.
I used ;) to be a bit of a grammar cop myself, but as you say, the internet is a bit more relaxed. Not to mention I'm getting old, and the rules of proper grammar are quickly slipping away from my memory. I do however pay particular attention to my spelling. Usually. Some days are a lot longer than others, though.
Some how I feel I'm totally off base with what you meant though. :ashamed001 I can't figure out if you are chiding me for my playfulness, or for the grammar, which I don't see a mistake with. But, hey, I just spent 4 or 5 hours trying to order something I'd already ordered. 3 days ago. :ashamed001

No, not at all! I was making fun of MYSELF, as I had made the use vs. used error. (Before I edited the post, I wrote "I use to smoke....")
See, so even when I'm all careful...I'm still rather unclear!
