Had them for about a month now...

6 Buff Orphingtons
5 Light Brahmas
1 Dark Brahma
5 Dark cornish
4 Blue Cochins
6 White Laced Red Cornish
1 Mystery Chicken

I'm still working on their permanent residence. I've got 5 Guineas coming mid july. They're all good meat birds, and some are better layers than others. They're all somewhat rare, with max 5000 breeding pairs in the world.

That's awesome! I hope to have chickens once we make the permanent move to the countryhouse!

Bronco: NICE looking birds!! As far as I've read, the roosters are the performers. They're a pain in the toukis, but provide endless enjoyment watching their antics...

Mine, like the plymouths, are all 'dual purpose' birds. Everything will lay till it hits the pot/grill...

I had to order some of them 'straight run' which means you get a 50/50 chance on sex. I figure 8-10 of them are roosters. Which means 3-5 are gonna be in the pot sooner than later. I only have enough hens to make so many roosters happy, so I can only support so many roosters. I'd love to hear any tips on caponizing...

I'm pouring a concrete floor in the henhouse sometime (probably the 14th, weather coorporating) to help keep predators out, and I've ordered an automatic chicken door with a photocell on it, so I can't forget to close the hen door. Predators are a real problem in my area. Of course, as far as predators are conerned, 12 guages and .17HMR's are a real threat, too... ( I have recipes for just about everything that would ever endeavor to eat a chicken :D)

I think the mystery chicken is a Lakenvelder. Blue feet, black collar, white body. Can't think of anything else that matches.

I've only fed them organic feed since I got them. I'm a farm hippie!
