I have what would generally be classified as "normal" skin, but in the winter my skin tends to get extra dry (maybe also windblown in chicago?:D). At first, some of my shaves were downright lousy because of the dry skin....it seems to toughen the beard and make shaving more difficult.
I have found a few things that help combat dry skin/beard.
1) Using good preshave-prep (hot shower, hot towel, preshave oil)
2) Application of "heavy" moisture cream 8 hrs prior to shave (for me, this is done around bedtime). Whiskers are very noticeably softer when shaving time rolls around, and they seem to melt away :happy088
3) Combo #1 & #2

I'm with you Joe except now, I find as age progresses, that my shins and abdomen, for some reason, are getting dryer in the winter. I know my shins are not helped by me wearing denim jeans during the day. So, it's prep and moisturize and hope for the best.

I have been using an ASB at bed time or just some WH, with spectacular results.

I have also been using a warm-air humidifier, with positive results. The air can get rather dry here in the windy city.
I have also tried adding a few drops of eucalyptus oil to the water basin, for a therapeutic/aromatic effect - works well.

What type of face moisturizers do you guys use?
I'm always paranoid about clogging pores and getting pimpes and bumps.

I have been using regular ASB. Like Nivea, Proraso, Mama Bears ASM, etc.

Face wash and light moisturizer. Not sure proraso pre/post would be my first choice.

Thats a tough question, I liked the Olivia ASB a lot, but my skin seems to do better without too much Jojoba (which I believe is a main component of Olivia balm).
The SLF Goat Milk makes things easy for me because I can use it head to toe :happy088

I have to +1 on the Simple farm GML
Good stuff and the Professor Pattons Bay Rum EDC is awesome! (if it just lasted a little bit longer).

Oooh, their peppermint/rosemary/tea tree lotion sounds really nice for both scent and being good to the face

Thanks, as always, for the advice, Joe.
Shave:
AS splash followed by ASB is usually 'nuff for me
Shower:
After glow....
1: Wipe off all excess water with hands.
2: Apply OIL of choice (currently alternating between Almond and Lavender oils) all over bod
3: Wipe / Squeegee down shower (takes a cuppa minutes)
4: Towel off.
I have found this method to be very helpful in the battle against dryness.
The minute or 2 it takes to wipe down the shower is all thats neccessary for the oils to be absorbed into the skin.

So, you guys still liking the goats milk lotion?
You use it on your face and body?
Not too oily & doesn't take too long to soak in?

Yes, every day at least on non shaven parts of face, and sometimes even the shaven parts as an ASB
This is not heavy lotion, so its suitable for anywhere
Not oily in the least, soaks in very wellAlso, its price is relatively reasonable based on a few factors:
Not mass produced
Not full of chemicals
Customizable
Made-to-Order (fresh)

Any storage issues with the goat's milk elixir? i.e. being fresh and natural, do the creepy fuzzies find it a delightful place to raise a big fuzzy green lumpy family?

You should be Ok, unless you keep it stored in direct sunlight. The fact that its prepared fresh for you helps, but I don't think a bottle of this stuff should be left around for over 18 months.
