Who is your favorite guitarist?
Mine is the great, Tommy Emmanuel. I consider him to be the best ever. Followed by about a dozen other fellas!! Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Steve Vai, Buckethead, Eric Clapton, and Dime-bag Darrell, just to name a few. Still, Tommy gets my vote as the all around greatest. Here is a clip of him doing a tune called, "The Hunt", Followed by his version of the classic Mason Williams piece, "Classical Gas".

Hi All,
I saw this gentleman (Leo Kottke) perform this song, sometime in the 70's. The guy still tours, and has always kinda tickled me. He never seems like he takes himself too seriously....funny sense of humor. This is only two minutes long, but is jam packed with goodness.......heh.
Hope a few of you enjoy it.

A lot of great players mentioned here, I am a big John Petrucci (http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=john+petrucci&search_type=&aq=0&oq=john+p) fan, a very versatile player that many times plays tributes to a lot of the greats already mentioned in this thread ;)

Thanks for mentioning Danny Gatton. Having known Danny, and having had the pleasure of hanging out in his club in Georgetown (DC) many many nights, I was just amazed at the depth of talent Danny had. My brother studied with him for several years, and Danny was just an amazing man.

Thanks for that story! He is one of the most under-appreciated guitarists out there (outside of the guitar community). I also left Buddy Guy off of my list (everybody, including me, always forgets him), thanks to TstebinsB for bringing him up.

I'll toss in Eddie Van Halen. The rest of my musical taste is punk rock, which doesn't require a great deal of skill, so not many stand out, but I do have to say that I also liked the late, great Johnny Ramone. Maybe he couldn't hang with the virtuosos, but you can't knock his impact.

There's so many it's hard to pick just one. I'm very fond of John Williams.
And a +1 for Roy Clark... although I don't necessarily listen to much of his music (I'm not a big C&W music fan), I remember seeing Roy Clark play Flight of the Bumblebee in quadruple-time... it was many years ago... probably on one of his many Johnny Carson Show appearances. Anyway, I was duly impressed. I read somewhere that he plays something like a dozen instruments... obviously the banjo, guitar, and fiddle, but also piano, trumpet, and trombone!

Hard to select only one. A couple previously mentioned, John Petrucci, Yngwie Malmsteen. Definitely need to mention Marty Friedman and Jason Becker.
One person nobody has mentioned, so I'll do so. Mr Paul Gilbert of Racer X fame.

Is it just me, or do you think Kevin Klien will play Tommy Emmanuel in the movie? :)

I'm making another pitch for Stuart Adamson and Big Country. This was a highly underrated and under appreciated band (at least in the US), but stuart could really hit some licks. They were an absolutely FANTASTIC live band.

That's what I've always heard. The guitarist does resemble Johnny a bit, but I wouldn't swear that it's him:

He did a lot of stuff after The Smiths, he toured with The Pretenders, played guitar on Brian Ferry's "Kiss & Tell," from the album "Bete Noir, although he obviously isn't in the video:"
