Just got an email from Highland Woodworking offering $20 off any online purchase of $125 or more. I may just spring for some stones here, not just for straights, but for chisels and plane blades too.
Their list price on a set of 4 (http://www.highlandwoodworking.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=6848) individual Norton stones (each 3"x8"x1") (220/1000/4000/8000) is $185 so it's yours for $165. However, they also have combo stones (same link, scroll down) so if you wanted all four grits and don't care if they're combos, the 220/1000 ($33) and 4000/8000 ($72) plus a flattening stone ($23), a total of $128...so $108 for those.
By way of comparison, Woodcraft sells the individual stones for a total of $205, the combos and flattening stone for @$153.
