As I begin learning how to use a straight I find I have great difficulty trying to hold the razor and shave with my left hand. I'm curious how many here shave with a straight using only one hand.

It will serve you well to learn with both hands. But there is nothing wrong if only use one hand. I use both hands.

+1, I don't trust old leftie to do a good job...

I use both. I think its worthwhile to train your off hand. It gives you more options. Then you can use whichever hand works best wherever...

I use only one hand - just like Johan, I don't trust my left one ;)

I switch hands for my cheeks, jawline, and the parts of the neck that are straight down from the ears. For the rest of the shave I use my right hand only, turning the razor to get to all the places.

It reminds me of learning to drink Scotch - an acquired taste. Learning to shave with both hands is an acquired touch. Patients and practice, no need to rush the process.

Good Luck,

The few times I have used a straight, I have used both hands and feet. :D

I voted both hands, but that is only when I take the extra time to slow down with the left hand......My left hand is not very coordinated....:o If I am in a hurry, I am able to get a great shave with the right only......

My problem lately have been finding the time for a nice relaxed luxury shave......with spring here there are all kinds of new / returning demands on my free time...:shocked003

Both hands from the very beginning. Didn't take long to get used to it. It was quite interesting to see the skills developing.

Both here, also from almost the very beginning. I can use the right hand only, but the angles are very awkward for me.

Right only here, too uncoordinated with the left.

Right only here as well. Somehow with one eye, using that left hand gets in the way of keeping track of the razor's angle.

I'm new to str8s and going through the learning process.
I'm using about 70-30% ratio right versus left hands, but I'm decided to improve as my technique gets better

both hands. the only way to cut yourself.

the shaking stops after a few shaves anyway.

I've used both hands from day one. I still don't trust my left, but I am forced to use it to meet the challenges my face presents. It is rare for me to cut myself, but when I do my left hand is the culprit.

We go to counseling once a week.

You get a better grip with two hands...

on the shave.

And yeah after the first cut and the blood pooling on the floor you stop shaking because you realize if you shook too much you'd spill your morning scotch.:D

I use both hands during my shave, but only one at a time.

My goal is to get to the point that I don't need hands because my wife is shaving me

That would actually be the ultimate right there...........

I tried to have the wife shave me. She shook worse than an LA earthquake. I said thanks for the effort though.
