View Full Version : Shaving BBS every day?

Ciao!
I would like ask how many of you guys shave every day BBS.
I shave every day: I didn't succeed in having a BBS everyday (my skin doesn't tolerate), but it's not important for me. It's enough being fit to be seen, after a good shaving, so I don't share with the idea of having a BBS every day. This is not the tale about the Fox and grapes.

I don't want to be polemical, I only like to know if I'm a clinical case or what :sick007.
My own choice let me shaving twice in a day, if I need, with very good results.

I'm waiting for your replies ;).
Regards!

i dont need to be clean shaven per se. i usually shave every 2 days or so and get better results on resting days. i feel it would be shaving nirvana if i could figure out how to shave every day with my straight and not look like i hadnt shaved...haha

I only go for BBS on "Date Night".
Never ATG for me but I will sometimes throw in a N-S XTG pass for a little closer result.

The same for me: nobody shows me N-S XTG and so I'm very proud of having found it. It works very well and isn't ATG. :happy088

I prefer BBS every day, but I can't do it consistently with a DE without irritation. I can with a Mach 3, but that seems so...distasteful! So, I'm learning to use a straight. I've had very good luck over the past few weeks with one WTG and a second XTG pass with the straight, followed by a very light finishing ATG pass with the M3. BBS every time! And usually NO irritation!

And after two passes with the straight, I don't feel so guilty using the M3. :o

Good shaves mean NEVER having to say youre "sorry".

Ive admitted in the past to using an electric razor after ther shave just to knock down the stragglers.........still do. ;)

When I first began to wetshave with a DE about two years ago, I tried everything I could get my hands on...vintage Gillette's, new Merkur razors, blades galore, soap, creams, aftershaves, moisturizers, etc. Some mornings resulted in frustration not being able to attain BBS. Some days were outstanding & others not so much. After my acquisition phases I settled on the Merkur razors and Derby blades - this was about a year ago. I sold off the soaps and creams that didn't work as well as others and trimmed it down to one that I enjoy the most & get the best results from. A few months of shaving fidelity resulted in BBS just about each and every morning. I still try a new blade here and there or some new aftershaves but I'm fairly certain I now have the best products for me. I am now mildly intrigued with the aspect of shaving with straights after viewing Padron's excellent SOTD pics.

Ohhhhh my. I get just about a bbs shave every time but my skin doesnt tolerate ATG shaving. Usually its pretty damn close to BBS though and works for me. I could just grow a beard out and never shave but I prefer to shave every day. I think I'm the only one of 25,000 students at my school who does.

I don't go for BBS every shave. I save that for Saturday shaves. Monday - Friday I settle for 1 WTG, a hybrid XTG/ATG, and a touch up. The more I shave with a DE, the closer the shaves get and the less irritation there is (mainly around my Adam's apple).

I get BBS shaves about four out of five times without particularly trying. I'm retired and don't leave the house most days so it really doesn't matter. If I want a really smooth shave after my skin dries I shave again with a Norelco and follow that with an old barber's trick putting on a light dusting of shave talc that makes my skin feel BBS even if it's not. It's usually the first or last day of a blade where I don't get BBS.

Its taken a year, but I finaly get zero irritation for the most part, even on my adams apple and bad spot on my neck. Its all coming together now :D

Since Method Shaving, BBS every day. On the days I shave in the evening as well as morning, BBS again.

with my beard being very heavy, and tough, I can still shave really BBS, but only twice a week. The rest of the week, I settle for clean, and presentable.

Unless I really don't feel like it I get close enough to BBS without killing my skin. I doubt anyone could tell between how close I get and true BBS.. so no need to break my back with 2+ minor clean up passes after my normal three.

I don't always take the time for BBS :o, sometimes all I have time for is a quick one pass straight shave.....if I am in a real hurry I will use a DE...;)

One pass on the straight with a little touch up often yields acceptable results good enough for a day in the office......

I can get a near BBS shave with a 2 pass straight shave...If I go for a 3 pass shave time permitting the results are BBS :D

I mostly do a 1 or 2 pass shave as that provides a nice enough close shave that my wife likes.....Time permitting the 3 pass is always a nice luxury

I don't shave every day but I get near BBS shaves every time. I could get BBS but I don't need that extra smoothness.

Thank you, Rick, for being so honest. As I'm just starting, or actually, returning to this venue I really don't see anything wrong with "doing what it takes" to get where you need to be when you be as far as the shave.

I shave every day. For the most part, I try for BBS. This is easily attainable with a DE, but I've been trying to shave exclusively with a straight for the past few months. For the most part, I can get really, really close to BBS.....but it seems like the DE is just a little closer, but oddly enough, the straight shave seems to last longer than the DE, even though the DE shave starts out closer.

One thing I've learned...straight shaving requires 100% of your attention. if you only give it 99%....you're gonna get cut.

crackstar

Dave, you're right about that. In fact, even DE shaving requires full attention, because a DE is not as forgiving as a cartridge razor, like a Mach 3, or a disposable.

I never worry bout BBS, "Just shave baby".

Close and comfortable is my trade. If I get it, I get it but I don't let it control me.

Some people don't pay attention when shaving with a DE. I've been shaving with a DE since 1954 except for ten years with a Norelco and a full beard one year. I can shave in the dark when the power is out, shave on a moving boat, and I often shave in a moving motor home. I can shave groggy or half asleep. I need glasses to see anything at close distances but I don't wear my glasses to shave so all I can see is a blurry hand moving over a blurry face. Away from home I sometimes shave without a mirror. I don't pay any attention to the angle or how I hold a DE razor.

Shaving with a DE for me is unconscious, no thought and seldom looking at what I'm doing. Nicks are rare, maybe one a month usually with a new blade. I get no irritation and BBS shaves about four out of five times. I'm just starting with straights but if I can't do that with a straight after a few months, then a straight isn't going to work for me.

The only time I have to pay attention is with one of the flat style shavers like a GEM or Rolls. I've never shaved with a cartridge razor and only four times with a disposable.

I wish I could get a BBS shave, pretty close, I'd say about 70% of my face is that way after 3 passes. I have to work on my technique more.

No way... I shave every other day and never ATG, so never BBS.
But I don't mind, I look good this way :happy102

Now that I've figured out what BBS means I can reply. I unfortunately never get a BBS shave unless I use my Gilette Fusion. I'll usually make 2 passes with my Merkur or my Gillete Adjustable and my face will be BBS but my neck still feels like about 100 grit sandpaper. The only way I can get my neck BBS is to finish a pass with my Fusion which I hate to use just because of the expensive refills. I'm hoping in time I can master the art with my DE's I've only been using them since March 08.
