I'm in my broke college phase (as I have been for the past 4 years) and finals time is coming up. I thought the best way to forget about the horrors of finals would be buy a great brush. So I was looking at some of those 200$ shavemacs and some of those 200$ simpsons. Than I though to my self: Why buy a Bugatti when I can build my own. (Actually, I just cant afford a nice silver tip).
So I'm thinking I'll order a 24mm silver tip knot from the golden nib as I hear they're pretty soft and dense yet stiff enough for creams. So Now I'm looking for a brush handle. Maybe a vintage handle, maybe a newer handle off some brush you destroyed. Anyway. I don't really care about the size (although I would like it to be a little bigger than my 55mm tall and 30mm wide base).
Main goal: Any handle that will fit a 24mm knot
(Rodd was nice enough to get at me and offer a great price on an oak handle but I'm broke, as previously stated, but I'm trying to keep the price down as much as possible. Although I wouldn't mind ordering a pretty handle from him :D)

I've started on the same project as you, and managed to find a couple nice lots of vintage brushes on eBay. Keep your eyes open and you should be able to land a nice handle or three.
One I'm really looking forward to is an old, crummy, flaking-paint wooden long handle with moth-eaten bristles. However, a new knot and a bit of sanding and a wax-oil finish, or maybe just a bit of wax over the remaining paint, and it'll look gorgeous!

How about this vintage Carl Monkhouse horse hair neck duster? Wouldn't that make a unique long handled shave brush?

This guy sell brush heads and turning blanks.
I bought 2 brush heads from him and they've worked really well for me.
I got my wood from the local "Woodcraft" store.
Be warned if you call him he likes to talk.:happy102

I love it! One of the reasons I wanted to make my own brush is so I could have a large enough handle. Wouldn't that be even a bit bigger than the 28mm knots Tony sells, though? Although, one could always sink a smaller hole inside the larger one . . .

That C-Mon handle is pretty cool....it would make a neat vintage looking brush

The best I can measure it appears to be a 28mm.

Here you go. A beautiful Carl Monkhouse. Note the yellow tints swirling into the green handle. You can see the handle size compared to an adjustable Aristocrat in the second photo.
