so i just looked down 'there' randomly and discovered over time i had grown a forest (probably due to no social life e.g. school/work) and decided hrm maybe a razor will do the trick, i never really shave with a stick myself i always deal with facial hair at the barbershop but i decided to slap on some soap and go to work, all of you being shaving experts i'm sure you know what has happened to me, so my question is basically what SHOULD i have done just so i'll know better next time. while i wait for answers i'll just sit here and enjoy my newfound pain and irritation and joyous razor bumps

Let the barbershop deal with it ;) :p

Honestly, I don't shave my privates so I can't help you, but a suggestion would be to use a trimmer and trim away most of the djungle, then use an unscented oil as preshave, maybe an "Extra Virgin" Olive Oil ;), and let that work a while, then lather up with some unscented rich cream... and go gently... very gently!

EDIT: Maybe this is one of those rare occasions I would recomend a Mach 3.. maybe even a "Power", for what it's worth; Stay away from Merkur Futur loaded with a Feather "down there" ;)

I will just ask to maintain the discussion within reason and conducted in a adult manner. I have seen this topics discussed in the past ending with the thread having to be closed due to inappropriate language and conduct unbecoming.

My statement was general in nature and if you took it personal then there is nothing I can do about that.

Good day.

All Raf meant was that topics such of this nature can go awry and he wanted to keep the discussion civil, he was not saying anything about the topic itself.

Scissors first......or a machete, to knock down most of the jungle.
then
a Norelco Bodygroom for the 2nd phase (trimming)
A generic beard groomer will also work well.
If you want to go closer than this, I cannot help you.
Never been there.

The key to shaving your junk, is NOT shaving your junk. Talke a reaular beard/hair trimmer and go at it.

oh man i just looked that thing up, its cheap and looks awesome, i could have gotten this today and saved myself a lot of trouble, i'm one of them hairy manly men from what i'm reading i should be careful how much maintenance i do to prevent annoyances, i'm gonna buy this. one of the suggestions are particularly interesting in that it says soak in warm water and then use a normal razor and just go in one direction, i wonder if i could combine the two by using the warm water and the bodygroomer

Last time I did that I used one of my straights. No irritation, no nothing. Those new razors ain't good for your face and they certainly don't work "down below" :D
But beware, you have to be a master at straight-shaving before trying this, I don't wanna be held responsible for the loss of any important (or unimportant) body parts ;)

if by straights you mean those 'razors' that are pretty much knives then yeah you can tell by the nature of this topic those are definitely not for me lol. i would probably shave off an entire layer of skin rather than hair
