I made a huge F$#$# Up from a chat with Xchris I asked him how to fight off rust building at the monkey tail he said dry blow it. so I took the dry blower but I was so tired already that day from working that I held the monkey tail to close to the dryer and the dryer was on highest setting Suddenly before my eyes I saw the end of my Scale turn black charcoal :eek::eek::eek:

I quickly took the razor away Darn you have no idea how Mad I got ! :mad:
I can sand it off im sure with a very high grit sandpaper but still got me the cold sweat !!!!!

Reminds me of one of my own mistakes: I wanted to heat some scales that were bent a bit to remodel them. I thought they were plain plastic. They were celluloid which I started to recognize when the thing caught fire.... :D

Obvious The rust is a nasty place to get it to really clean would the Ultra Sonic clean off the rust ? I dont think it will with special cleaning fluid made for removing rust ?

The only thing I dont like about str8's very hard to keep them rust free ? :confused:

oh dear, that looks bad. I can't recommend the ultrasonic. I use them on straights but you do have to use the hairdryer afterwards to clean the razor - especially inside the pin where the razor is fastened.
For this type of rust I recommend using a small brass (or steel) wheel for the Dremel - I use it all the time.

Sorry to hear that my advice caused you grief. I, too, have scorched celluloid scales with too much heat and remaining stationary in one place with the dryer. I'd contact Joe to determine what's the best way for cleaning up the finish (was it CA or an oil?) again on the end that got burned.

As for the rust, Bill Ellis could make you a recommendation on the method and device to get at that rust. I think he has used bamboo skewers and swatches of sandpaper to clear that kind of rust, and he also shows a spring-loaded hand tool that uses a thin piece of sandpaper wrapped around it.

I'll do that , Bill always has good ideas.
Im sure Joe could fix it if Id send it back but for now perhaps not send it back maybe when the razor needs a fresh hone that would make more sense to send it back the little burn doesnt affect the use of the razor its only nasty when I want to resell it then I have point that accident out:mad:

Wow even you had these accidents Chris what a PITA ! to keep these Str8's in good shape that adds really to the learning curve of using a str8 if your used to the easyness of not even the need to dry a DE but with a Str8 your in deep trouble. I have an INOX Dovo it stays rust free sofar but I wouldnt keep it in water all the time or not dry off im sure it would attack the surface?

def my bad beind stationary and having the blower on nr 2 ! I should have known way better I use a blower at work too for shrinking insulation tape on fresh solder work I managed to completely ruin a few hours solder work like that too ... too close and too hot.

Result: Continuing my 4+ streak, day 2 of the B&B LTD brush showing that like other people, I think it should have had a little more backbone. It's not floppy but I can tell when it's soaking in the bowl, it spreads out a little more then some of the other brushes. The Pre de Provence soap shaves well and feels nice on the skin. This is the last of the Feather Pro Blades. I do better with the Super Pro Blades so that is what I am going to stick with.

I just cannot believe how FRIGID this Permafrost Blue stick is, and how nice it smells. The lather is so easy to create, and the skincare is so soothing, both during and after a shave. This Vifrex a/shave gel smells very barbershoppy and classy, and it's really cooling as well. ;) :D
