This is something that I often wonder, what colognes/aftershaves compliment your saps and creams. I look at alot of the SOS posts and wonder why people picked this or that.
Example of something I do...
Rose cream/Rose Witch Hazel/Coral Skin Food..........Hammam Bouquet
I feel they all pretty much compliment each other.
It would be nice to get some sort of list as far as what you all think make a complete shave experience scent wise from start to finish.

That's a great example of what I sometimes like to do Isaac, I try and just match up the products best as I can..scent wise and go from there.....Sandalwood with Sandalwood etc....
It probably helps to know the basenotes of the products used to find the best pairing..
Some products, are harder to find things to compliment the creams / soaps.... to me is seems like there are a lot more varieties in those depts.....vs and aftershave EDT combos to compliment the main theme of the shave....in which case I'll grab what ever sounds good...:)
Some people come up with a lot better combos than I do and I also wonder what inspires it

I'll match up Creams with my Thayers and Skin Foods as best as possible but that is really the extent of what I can do. I do not have many aftershaves and only one cologne so it doesn't work out much for me.

I find Erasmic soap, and cream, Noxzema lather cream, and strangely enough, Old Spice Lime cream go well with Booster Mosswood A/S and Yves Saint-Laurent Pour Homme EDT.

the glyce lime oil soap/nancy boy signaute shave cream was pretty good combo. But that was just for the soap If I can get my hands on some good lime ASB and some Lime Old Spice, I think I'll realy be on to something...

I find with Italian Floid...that it pretty much overpowers any Cologne I would want to wear. ON a side note....i actually like the smell of it though...
Heres another one I like.....Clubman Pinaud with Penhaligons Raquets

That sounds like an interesting one. I'll have to try that.
I find Old Spice works with Bay Rum scents. Bay rum a/s also seems to work well with warm or "leathery" type colognes.
I also like vetiver colognes after using a rose scented soap/cream and coral skin food.

This is a tough call. There are some obvious ones like using Musgo Real, De Vergulde Hand and Tabac products across the board or pairing up a scent theme like Bay Rum (Ogallala fits both product and scent themes), Citrus, Lavender, and others. I tend to rule out the shave cream/soap part of the equation most of the time since the scent does not hold very long. There are some exceptions certainly. I'll either go scent paired or neutral soap/cream with a A/S of choice.

I don't pair my scents with soaps or creams at all. I treat that as two completely seperate categories. The scent of the soap/cream is a nice touch during the shave, but doesn't have anything to do with it once I finish rinsing my face off at the end.
As for colognes and aftershaves, I will usually use a very light scent aftershave such as Harris Pink or Hydrolast Conditioner so I can use any cologne I'm in the mood for from a light Guerlain Imperial all the way up to something heavy like Knize 10. Or I will try to aim for a combo that either matches or compliements each other, which is a tricky balance where personal preference comes in to play. I really enjoy the Penhaligon's English Fern Aftershave and Trumpers Wild Fern Cologne combo for example. I also like a good strong aftershave that I can wear with no cologne such as Pinaud Clubman, Clubman Musk, or DR Harris Sandalwood.

See? Like that. Pull the soap/cream out the equation. Even further, my goto A/S is Thayer's A/S which is unscented and then I can use whatever cologne I want. I'm into a light menthol A/S balm/cream right now which sort of acts the same as the Thayer's A/S and allows me to smooth out the balm with a scented A/S. The experimentation is certainly fun.

So.....for instance. DR Harris Pink smells of roses. What cologne would pair well with a rose smell? I know i wouldnt personally bust out with Eucris or what not...

The scent of Harris Pink is extremely light to me. The light rose smell ususally dissapears after only a few short minutes. I've used Eucris afterwards numerous times with no problems.

You could try SCS Savory Rose...a pretty strong single note Rose scent....Chanel Egoiste to me has nice Rose tones to it...Hammam Bouquet, still spendy but cheaper that the #88, Penhaligons Castile has Rose but the Neroli is stronger...:)

Umm, you want to go out in public smelling like roses? What's next, Gardenia? Rose is fine for shave cream or soap. Those scents don't last long. I'll pass on floral EdT though.
Just one man's opinion of course, but such scents are far too feminine as far as I'm concerned.

Ungaro Ungaro III has a nice, dark rose scent. It definitely won't break the bank. I've received a lot of compliments on that one. It's more of a heavy, almost goth floral.

Call Appleton Barber Supply. They recently got a case back from a retailer and might have a few bottles left. Shhh..it's a secret and you have to make them check for it because it's not listed in inventory. :D
