Had a really great shave today. I overslept and had to shave in a hurry. One of the best shaves I've had in a while...

TOBS Mr. Taylors cream
BLK4
Gillette Mach 3 (with a rather old, well-used cartridge)

Two passes plus touchups.
Very quick...5-10 minutes, maybe?
Who cares about blade angles?
No nicks.
Zero irritation.
BBS.

Now what's all this nonsense about how bad M3's are?

I may just make a habit of this. But I will never give up my brushes and quality soaps and creams.

Am I gonna be banned now? :ashamed001

Deal with it. Actually, I don't think the cartridge is THAT old...though the razor may be! :D

Hey, I calls 'em like I sees 'em. It was a good shave - and definitely a fast one.

Hey--it's okay. I like to switch back to the Gilettes now and again, too. It's the only way I can assure my legs won't look like they've spent too much time with the cheese grater.

Hi, Elizabeth! So, you're saying that you're legs get shredded with a DE or a straight and you use the M3 to get a nice, smooth, irritation-free shave? :)

Elizabeth, your age does seem to fluctuate fairly regularly. :)

Sorry, couldn't resist. :ashamed001

I was born January 6, 1961, a middle class white female in Lansing, MI. And that's the truth. :happy023

However, I prefer to delude myself into believing I am 37. It meshes better with my personality :happy023

YES!

(Elizabeth hides behind a big rock to avoid harm to her person)

But the DE thing is still pretty cool when I have a lot of time.

I get good shaves with a Mach3 also. The only reason I'm using a DE now is because 1. the price just went up on Mach3's again! and 2. I have so much DE gear I'd hate to see it go to waste

But I have to say I'm disappointed in your post. As a Shave Den Forum Moderator you're supposed to set the example! :rofl

Can you even ban a moderator?

If you've got another solution to what works for your shaves (a Mach 3 every now and then) -- more power to ya! A lot of guys say that they can get BBS shaves with a Mach 3 as well, but it's the repeated use of one, and especially a day or two after the Mach 3 shaves, when the ingrowns start to appear.

Not trying to jinx you or anything. :ashamed001

Before I started DE shaving, I used a M3, or Trac II in the early days, every day since before many (maybe most) of you were born. Never an ingrown, never any irritation, only an occasional spot of blood if I got really careless. Even with canned goo.

I don't like the fact that they're plastic, that there's no heft to them or that they make this weird squeaking noise when the head pivots (then again, maybe I just need a new one to cure that). I don't like the overall feel of them, in my hand or on my face. With the Trac II and M3...I HATED SHAVING. Just a daily chore.

The fact is though, I always got good shaves with a Mach 3 - day after day after day.

Apparently, I still can...I just don't enjoy them.

You pretty much summed up the M3 / Trac II experience - Similar to buying a new camera today. Good pictures but no longer has the same enjoyment of fondling a Nikon F2. No passion :(

If it we're for Fusion, I wouldn't be shaving at all!

I'd given shaving a try 2-3 times in my adult life and always hated it. Too irritating, too many bumps. I looked horrible. Then I saw the ads for the Fusion that said "5 blades, closer together for less irritation." I gave it a try and there was less irritation, but still too much. That when I turned to the web to look for tips. Most of what I discovered was in the context of DE razors. Eventually I tried a DE and I've never looked back!

even if I could get as good of shaves with my fusion or mach 3, I will never go back, except maybe if in a rush, if only for the price of cartridges. (even if I spend the savings to fund my RAD)
That being said, I get as good, or better with my DEs, and I enjoy shaving with them.

I can shave just as fast with a DE as I can a cartridge. Canned foam is faster, but I don't have any in the house...Mrs. TULIP and I both use soap/cream.
