I tested the BIC Metal razor for 4 days in a row. I bought 5 packages[of 5] from Walgreens.com to be used as travel razors. Given the fact that TSA can open your luggage and take whatever the hell they want and not suffer any repercussions, I'll be darned if I am going to check any of my precious Gillette DE razors these days, especially with what replacement costs are reaching on e-prey.

So I set out on an adventure to see if the much heralded BIC Metal was a suitable replacement for a DE. In a word -yes. In fact, it performed so well, it made me seriously rethink daily DE shaving...:ashamed001

Contrary to convention concerning disposables, and cartridge razors, DO NOT apply pressure when using the BIC Metal. It only increases razor burn. Despite it's feather weight, it shaves like a DE and it is this light weight that makes it perfect for blade buffing. And the very narrow head makes it very maneuverable around any facial hair or contour.

I tested it the first 3 days using my regular routine of prep and using a shave brush. On the fourth day, I went brushless with KMF Key LIME SC and this is where the BIC really shone! It was incredible, and easy. Reapplying the cream between shaves yielded the slickest shaving surface you can imagine. And a very close, comfortable shave. The only thing different than a DE shave is the my 5:00 shadow showed up sooner than with a DE.

There is probably 1-2 more shaves left in the razor.

So, in short, I have found what I believe is the perfect travel razor for the DE shaver who wants to leave the valuable DE home. Add a great brushless cream, an you can leave that expensive silvertip brush at home, too.

As always, YMMV.

I've heard for years these are the best cartridge razor made. They're getting harder to find though.

I have never seen these before.. I need to do a google on them.

Personally for me I would think that a good way to avoid the flying problems would be to take the blades out of your DE and put the empty DE in your carry on and leave the blades in the checked baggage. In fact I would carry all of my shaving stuff carry on.

Obviously straights are a no-no (sadly) but I would think this would work for DEs.

I had no problem carrying my de on flights. Even went intercontinental. Sometimes though, it's just better to have a cartridge.... just in case.

If you're interested, Em's Place has them.
