Don't have a favorite yet. I haven't tried the Sharp's. The best shave I've had is with a vintage Gillette Super platinum which came with a red tip SS I just brought. Believe it is a full pack of 10.

Wade & Butcher "For Barber's Use" straight razor (Meat Chopper!).
I'm mainly a straight razor shaver -- I haven't even made it through the obligatory blade sampler! :D
Feather: the sharper, the better. Though I favour now AC Feather blades.

Swedish Gillette, maybe followed closely by Feather.

I voted other.
I like different blades with different razors, and here is the current list:
Merkur HD: Derby, Feather
Merkur Slant: Derby, SHARP v2
Feathers (portable and polymer): Feather
Gillette Tech: Feather, SHARP v2

for the closest shave: Feathers
for the "everyday shave": Personnas (American) and Derby Extras

Swedish Gillette followed by daily user IP. This was when I use DE everyday. Now that I use Straights I just load IP's for minor touch ups.

I rotate based on the shave...
Method shave: Feather
Creams: Derby or IP
Soaps: Derby or Straight
For touch-ups after the straight, usually a Derby in Merkur Long Handle Classic
I've probably given this too much thought

Derby all the way.. And the occasional straight shave..

Voted "Other" because I use different blades with different razors and different moods.
For my Merkur HD and 1904, which I use most of the time, I like the Swedish Gillette, the Israeli Personna and the Derby. How do I choose? My mood when I change blades and sometimes just for the sake of variety. I've been getting good shaves from all three

Sharp V2, a real work horse. Just like the Gillette but less cost.

Depends on the razor. I still have not tried the Sharps and 7 AM

So far, Derby. I used Feathers for a couple of months but never got over the harshness, then I tried everything in Lettter K's sample pack at least 3 or 4 times. Have not tried Sharps or 7 a.m., but the Derbys are working so well for me that I'm reluctant to experiment any more...

Out of the blades I have tried so far (Derby, US Personna, Merkur), my favorite is the Derby. I can only get 3 shaves out of one though...and the third shave is usually sketchy, so I've been going with two lately. Sometime soon I would like to try an IP and Swedish Gillette though, since I feel like I'm missing out on something good.

YEP....
me too.
#3S is the max for a Derb. IMO
But they're sooo cheap, who needs to worry about it ??
I also agree aboot the HARSHNESS of the Feathers. The 1st shave is absolutely brutal for me.....wont be buying anymore.

I have to agree. Different blades for different razors.

Other:
1. Feather in the Slant or HD.
2. Derby in the FatBoy or Slim Adj.
3. Israeli in the VISION.
Tried the Swedes and was not to impressed with them. The Merkurs were only used until the Israelis showed up-I think I still have the full pack that came with the VISION.

I voted Feather for the rare DE use, otherwise it's straights :D

Derby, then IP
I had to vote for the Derby, they're just right for me. I was surprised at how much variation in feel/performance there is between the different brands.
I only tried a Feather once, in a Superspeed. It felt like it had a strong tendency toward harsh, but did shave very well as long as I barely let it touch me.

A bit early to declare a favorite. I really like the Feathers, but just tried Sharps and they seem the equal of Feathers at half the price. Still have to try the 7 am blade next week.

Really like the Feathers, they seem to be the only blade that doesn't drag for me. I haven't noticed any harshness with them, but then I try especially hard to keep a light touch.
Interesting comment that the Sharps are very close to the Feathers, I haven't heard this before. Where can I get some of the Sharps, I'm just not that familiar with them.......................and thanks for the comment on the Sharps.

Crystal DE blades as indicated by my avatar. These are my $ store find. They come from ASRCO and are made in Israel, have the same patent # and blue wrapper as the IP's. They also have the same markings, Platinum +, they do not say "Made in Israel" on the blade but are packaged with a card that indicates this. I am just lucky enough to find them locally.

Now that's an interesting find! I am very fond of the Israeli Personna's. They are not the sharpest blade, but they give me the most irritation free shave of any blade I've tried [including Feathers, Merkurs and Derbys].
Were these in a Dollar General store or some local dollar store? We have loads of Dollar General stores here in Tennessee, along with some Family Dollar stores.

The store is called "$1 and More". I know there are a few in FL but I don't know about the rest of the US.

Tesco blades when I can get them, otherwise Swedish Gillette.
Of course there isn't a DE blade out there that is the equal of my TI Pierre Thiers straight.

Alex

I use the Gillettes they sell in Eckerds. Dont know if they are the Swedish or not. They give me the best shave second to IP's. The main reason I use them is because they are easy to get and are relatively cheap (.80 cents a blade). I could get other blades cheaper, but I figure that is cheaper than M3 blades, so I'm still saving money. Being in college, I move around a lot, so I dont really want to get a 100 pack of any type of blade.
My favorites...
1. Feather
2. Super Platinum
3. Derby

Changed my mind on the Feathers.
Still brutal on the #1S but I am liking them a lot in my SuperSpeed.
Add: No to the Futur / Feather combo. Bad shave, again.

Swedes are my fave. The mighty Feather coming in a close second. And the blade that does no wrong in my books, the IP/Crystal a respectable third place. In fact, in my old (1900?) open comb Gillette, the IP gives me a beautiful shave with little irritation. I'm actually scared to try a sharper blade in that razor.

Paul - perhaps you can give some info on the "Silver Blue"
Where are they manufactured, how are they different than the Swedish Gillette, what are they coated with?

I find the blues just a sharp but smoother than the swedes. I can't provide any manufacturers specs but I believe they are uncoated. They were manufactured by Gillette Czech S.R.O before they went independent. The Czech factory now makes LEON double edge.

Some good blades choices, which Dorco do you use? I tried some of the earlier ones and didn't care for them.

I just recently resumed blade exploration. My choice previously was the Feather, but I got to wondering about the brands I hadn't tried. First was a made-in-England Wilkinson, which I liked better than the Feather---then a made-in-Germany Wilkinson, which I liked better than the English one. So now I'm trying all sorts of new brands. I got the large sampler here (http://www.razorandbrush.com/Sampler.html) and am working through it.

I'm exploring as well, and having good results! What do you think of the blades from Giovanni? So far, I have only tried this Treet....but it is working quite well:
TREET is one of the oldest names in shaving. We are proud to distribute these great blades in the U.S. The Treet Platinum blades are high quality stainless steel blades, with a sharp platinum treated edge and PTFE coating for smoothness. Excellent quality at a very good price. 10-Pack. Special buy: get 100 blades for only $17.00!

I've found a couple of good blades, and I've just begun: the made-in-Germany Wilkinsons and the Astra Superior Platinum. Of course, a good blade for me could be a bad blade for you and vice versa. No substitute for really trying the blade.
