hello everyone.

I wanted to ask all of you if anyone has tried Noxema (original) facial cream as there daily facial wash now? I've read some interesting topics here on the board about it being used as a Pre/Post shave, etc and was wondering for something so inexpensive, readily available and has been around for tons of years would it be worth using? Would this actually clean your skin better than like 100% Olive Oil soaps? I don't want my face to be "dried" up like a mushroom but I am looking for something simple, not expensive and has a great reputation from the new to the old school. Any inputs would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hello!

I am new to this forum but have been wet shaving (wow, where has the time gone....) for about 25 years.

Noxema is very similar (but not quite as effective, IMHO) to the Proraso pre/post product. It looks and smells like it (and costs a lot less) but is not 'the same thing'. As a post shave, it's nothing like it, again, IMHO.

As a cleaner, it's a very good choice, if what you're after is cleaning your skin, and plan on rinsing it off prior to applying lather with a brush. If you don't rinse it off, and lather on top of it, it can really gunk up your brush over time.

For me, I don't use any pre-shave product, as I don't think I get any better result, and I like scrubbing my face clean with the brush before painting on the lather. When I have a lot of time and want to enjoy the ritual of shaving, I'll use some Musgo Real lime soap, or some Prep, or maybe the Proraso pre/post; all great products. And stay away from anything that says 'exfoliating'!

Best,

FH

Welcome to The Shave Den, FatHead! (gosh that sounds mean of me. :ashamed001)

As for Noxzema as a face wash, well I personally haven't used it in years (and years), but yeah, I would think it would work as a face wash.

YMMV. :whacky011

Welcome to the Shave Den!

I have to ask a question myself: what's the point of a facial wash? A bar of soap (superfatted if you have dry skin) is all one needs.
It's just the same things with Preshave-products, vitamin-pills, dietary supplements and many more modern stuff: Designed to be sold to people who believe it's actually helping and a miracle and whatnot else when in fact you really don't need them at all. The only one needing these things is the industry - because they are after your money ;)

But, of course, YMMV and you can't generalize here ;)

I use it in the shower before the shave....not every time, but I like it.
The smell sends me back in time and it is very effective: Cleansing and non-drying..
Ive also started using a facial scrub before the shave.......maybe I'll combine the two !

DONE.
It happens tonight.

I use Noxema every day, and other days I use facial scrubs to exfoliate and remove ingrown hairs. Works as a great pre-shave for me. Anthony Logistics Algae cleanser and the Glycolic cleanser do wonders for me as well.

edit: FatHead -- why avoid exfoliants?

I don't know about using exfoliants every day. Shaving also removes dead skin cells and stresses the skin so I wouldn't wanna use another product that's removing skin from my face....

With summer here I'm going to wash with Noxzema every evening. I use an apricot scrub on my face about once a week. It especially helps the parts of my face not shaved (forehead & nose).

I alternate with Noxema and Booth's, both mentholated, for evening wash. Very refreshing in 112 degree heat. I think I like Noxema better.
