I've noticed that underneath peoples names on their posts, they have titles such as "Shave mug member", "President of the lather club" etc. No doubt one will be attached to this post. Is this just meant to make things interesting as they seem to serve no other purpose?

The Custom Titles will change as the number of your posts increases. It is just for fun. Sometimes if you say or do something deemed special the moderators and Admin will get together and bestow a personal Custom title or CT.
