This razor and brush stand was purchased new almost 2 years ago for $40 but there is considerable water damage. It was actually a very nice nickel stand. Is there any way to restore it or should I just buy a new one?

looks awful... like 2$ chinese make.

I'd say: get a new one, or, better, build yourself a new one, that's much more fun ;)

I'd give cleaning it up a shot before I junked it. It looks like soap scum, water marks and light surface rust on it to me. I think that a little tender love and care with some Bon ami cleanser and it'll be good as new.

I think the chrome is just too far gone. Why not look into some of those special effects spray paints. I used a rustoleum "hammered" finish spray paint, on some old chrome in my bathroom. It has a satin gray finish that is slightly textured (think like an orange peel), which has hidden the blemishes that were previously on the metal.

I really think it would work well in this case.

I'd clean it up and do the rustoleum treatment Sparky mentioned, I think they also make a Fleck / speckle kit that may look alright depending on your bathroom decor...

There is also some rubberized dip / paint....may work well

If not, it did serve you well over the past 2 years ;)

Another vote for cleaning off the rust & water damage, then hitting it with some paint treatment.

Why so many for the restore....instead of buying anew one. I suppose my answer shows the true feeling of the disposable generation..and im kinda ashamed now.haha

I'm a clean it up, give it a shot of paint...dee if you like it ..maybe a different color or type of paint..
It'll be custon, you'll have the pride of doing something that you use..

Why not clean it up, give it one of those paint treatments, and list it on eBay? :)

Or just sell it to me. :ashamed001

I like that idea. I don't really use the razor side anyway. I could just get a plastic brush stand and be fine.

I decided to use CLR solution and sand it down. I used Rust-Oleum for the finish. I have to put a few more coats and a protective enamel. All in all, it's not a bad start.

Nice Telly! I used rust oleum on a metal towel rack (no clear coat). That's been 4 years, and it still looks like when I first did it.

How many coatings did you put?

I only used two, because I didn't plan on keeping the rack. I didn't sand of the rust, or even clean it first for that matter. :ashamed001

Now it looks so good, not only am I gonna keep it, i'm gonna paint the others to match. That stuff has been really durable for me.

Thanks. I'm thinking of putting three coatings just to be safe.

Can't hurt while you've got it all cleaned and ready to go.

When you successfully restore what is trash, to something useful, it brings a feeling of accomplishment. In my case, i'm still proud of a 4 year old towel rack....

Oh yeah. I saved money for real this time (not like when I started wetshaving)

Yes, but I'm not going to get a Futur though. That ship has sailed. I was just pointing out the similar finish..

You could always buy a Slant Sledgehammer and give it the Rust-O-Leum treatment.
That'd be sch-weet !!

I've wondered what a Gillete adjustable would look like with a little Rust-O-Leum.
