Here's the special project I told ya I was working on.
By no means is this finished, I'm still working out the brush holder, saw this hanger at the hardware store and thought why not.
1 - 3/16" x 6 1/2" steel rod threaded on on end.
1 - 1/2" thick x 2" dia CRS cut off on lathe and tapped.
1 - Plastic sliding adjustment knob from garage sale.
1 - Storage hanger from hardware store.
The weight of the base is enough to keep it from toppling over.
If I could figure out the hangers, maybe use a taller rod and hang 3-4 brushes (this was the idea at the begining).

My Shavemac bulb handle fits in it.
The storage hanger is just too large for many brushes. I'm open to ideas. :D
My first idea was to make an adjustable clamp for the brush handle but I gave up and just threw the height adjustment in.

Neat idea. It caused me to think of something similar that maybe someone may want to try. A chemistry ring stand then just attach something like you did to hold the brush. They are also tall enough you could hang multiple brushes on it.

Great idea Robert!
Our hang-up (pun) seems to be in how to hang the brushes. There has to be something out there that we could adapt.

I solved it!
Go here
http://www.instructables.com/id/The-%245-PVC-Shaving-Stand/

and look at the homemade PVC stand then just use the instructions on how to make the PVC elbow hold the brush upside down *starts here*
http://www.instructables.com/id/EKGXHDBKSIEP286ZKU/

Then add a couple more steps to make it compatible with the ring stand. Attach a PVC T to the other end of the elbow that is holding the brush. Then drill a hole in the PVC T so that one of these type of bolts will go in it. (I can't think of their name)
http://us.st11.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.com/I/yhst-28505188400710_1987_3086077

I hope everyone is following me so far. Then just slip the T on the stand and then when you have it at the height you want tighten up the bolt.

Did I mention I like to build things?

Robert, that's an idea...perhaps not the look I was going for on this one.
I did save the info to play around with though. :D

Thanks!

There is a market for a proper stand within a reasonable price. As everyone sees, the brush/razor stand seems to be sold as a set. Otherwise, it seems that only brush stands are sold separately. I am sure there are an exception or two and I know the stand is not necessary but it does add a certain attraction and organization to the bathroom sink.

THat is a great idea. Could maybe put a spring loaded clamp for the brush itself?

That would be an interesting idea too.

Heck, you could even reboild you bathroom as a chem-lab, that would be a pretty unique idea :D

I've looked around bit, the one's that I find, I'm afraid will scratch the handle.

Spiffy idea you have there. Maybe make the size cradle you need by using 1/8 dia brass rod and solder it to the clamping slide. You could get some of that rubber stuff used to dip the handles of pliars and such to cover the brass if you are worried about it scratching the brushes. It comes in different colors. After it dries, it looks just like the hanger you just used.

Thanks Bill. I think you are right about the brass rod and it wouldn't really have to be coated. The brass would look good with the black. The smaller size of the brass would look better with the stand and upright. After all, I am going for the classy look. :D

My concern with the spring clamps is that they are made from stamped metal with sharp edges, at least the ones that I have seen.

Thanks everyone for the help and suggestions. I'm going back into design mode for the moment. :D

That Plastidip looks like it would fix your problem

Part 2 - Using Bill's idea, a little trimming and some clean up and it's ready to go. Don't really need a brush stand, just playing. :D

Anyone ever think about this (http://www.joann.com/joann/catalog.jsp?CATID=cat2903&PRODID=prd30188) for a brush stand?

I picked one up for under $2 at my local craft store, and I'm working on making it pretty.

I'll post pics if I decide I'm happy with it.

But if you want a brush stand you could just fit the metal around your brush, and you'd be good to go!

Well, everyone else does, so why not them too?

Thanks for reviving this thread JoAnna!

I like Steve's brush stand; height adjustable and neat looking! I made my first brush stand out of the bottom of a plastic cranberry juice bottle. It worked, but it was not pretty.

Ahh, but you just need a little bit of imagination, and you can make the doll stand neat looking, too! :happy088

They also come in a different style, but cost a bit more. Click me (https://secure.wavi.com/allaboutdolls/cgi-bin/shopper?key=AAWDS&preadd=action).

The doll stand is a good idea (much better than a juice bottle :ashamed001).
