after the carnage yesterday with the Feather, my face healed up surprisingly fast, and I was able to take a nice, light 2 pass shave, that got me pretty smooth, though not BBS. This Gold-Dachs soap is terrific--a beautiful, traditional scent, with a ton of rich, full-bodied lather, and very soothing. ;) :D

How would you compare the Gold-Dachs to your beloved Erasmic soap?

Rick, the Gold Dachs soap is as lovely as Erasmic, but in a different way. Erasmic is glycerine-based, and Gold Dachs seems to be a hard-milled tallow soap. The Gold Dachs has a very rich, heavy, creamy kind of lather, with a very soothing sensation, and a beautiful, traditional, "barbershop" kind of scent. Erasmic soap's lather is also rich, and full, but it tends to be more like a typical glycerine soap, although I find I get amazing skincare from it, a lot better than a lot of other glycerine soaps I tried. The Erasmic soap also has a wonderful scent, not at all far from the Gold Dachs soap, at least to my nose! :rofl :rofl :D

So, today I shave with his '53 Gillette black-tipped SS and use Old Spice products since he was Old Spice man. As for the razor, it's not the greatest shaver but, to me, he was the greatest dad.

Getting there, slowly! Todays straight shave was ceratinly an improvement from yesterday. A closer shave indeed! I'm still not content with the result on the neck. I need to find another angle or a slight variance to the direction, I'm missing something...

All passes are WTG and a XTG for touch ups. Do you ever go ATG? It feels "dangerous"... Maybe I'm just not ready for that step?

Yes, Bob. Thank You. I do remember what my Grandfather used. An old Gillette TTO or a Schick Injector, Barbasol and what else? Old Spice. I have no idea on my father. My mother tossed his butt out of the house when I was eight.

Not a good shave with the Blue Steel. I think I messed up the edge when I initially got it in the Straight Edge Razor (SER) Passaround (http://www.theshaveden.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1284)
Even after 70 strops I wasn't getting a smooth shave. I should have stopped and DE'd it..NOPE...
I did two passes before I DE'd it..
Then it was the usual. Alum block, corn huskers, Aqua Velva Balm (quite nice) J&J Bandaid for one really deep cut, then Truefitt & Hill Spanish Leather.
Spanish leather lasted ~ 2 hours to my sense. I'll see when my Son gets home if it is still there.

Result: 4.5/5.0 I was digging around in one of my storage boxes and found this puck of Saint Charles Sandalwood Soap. Glad I did. It lathered up nice after a little aging time. I over wet it a tad. Glide and cushion were adequate. The scent was a little light though. I need to figure out how to use the Lucky Tiger Facial Cream in my routine. I put it on shortly before the shave and it worried me that it was going to interfere with the shave based on how it felt on my face. I'll do some experimenting and see what works best.

It is THE most mild, tame, non-aggressive (insert other adjectives here) razor I have ever used.
I bought it because the 1940's SS I have is a great shaver and this was reported to be a modern version......it aint ;)
The good news is that if you need a light shave or have a huge skin disorder on your neck that you want to shave thru, this razor will git er done.

Result: 4.7/5.0 Wow, took some old and took some new, put them together and came up with a great shower and shave. I was one happy camper this morning. I'm still rubbing my face six hours later. I got a bunch of stuff from Appleton Barber Supply (http://www.appletonbarbersupply.com/) last night and went nuts last night and this morning. I used some moisturizer last night. A little goes a long way and don't put it on just before bed. The other items I used this morning. The super dandruff shampoo is weird. Put it on dry hair and rub in thoroughly. Add water a little at a time and you'll get this really thick creamy lather. Rinse well. The 3 Purpose Hair Tonic with fine oil was just what I needed to replace the discontinued Special Formula Hair Tonic I love so much. I checked with the manufacturer and there isn't any more so this replacement is a good thing. Finally, you want minty menthol in your aftershave? Wow, this certainly delivered the goods and it's a cream. Using the West Indian Limes Shame Cream and then finishing off with the Vanishing Cream and Citrus Musk Aftershave. My face felt great. Even the dentist this morning commented on my shave.

Today was a successful shave NO BLEEDERS. NOT BBS but better than adequate :)Well I never knew of Oxford sc. I still don't really know how it is cause I mixed it with Celebration Soaps shave soap. Got a nice lather and a hidden treasure of this shave is the Omega brush. Probably a nothing brush in the hierarchy of brushdom...It was a darn fine lather maker and it feels VEry nice on my face. What more do we ask of a brush...NOTHING!!! It exceeded all my needs.
Ahhh today was a str8 shave day...This was my fav, or best razor, of the three in the SER STRAIGHT EDGE RAZOR Passaround (http://www.theshaveden.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1284)

I have started to like the Proraso BUT it has a strange smell to it.
Not a good smell....a strange smell..I may give it up because of the smell.
Alum block. I don't know if my skin gets any benefit from this but I like it.
Corn Huskers Lotion..This is a great product.
Gillette Cool WAVE...WOW what a bite to it. From the alcohol. Not especially fond of this.

This Egyptian Palmolive menthol cream is as freezing cold as the Italian version, with wonderful lather, and plenty of skincare, but although the scent is not terrible, I prefer the Italian version's minty scent. This one is quite similar to the US version, with a menthol tone. The Max A/S smells beautiful, and intensifies the cooling very strongly. The part of the shave I must say impressed me, is the Parker 91R, it can shave as well as a straight razor! ;) :D

It was a different combination... not horrible, but I don't think I'd do it again. Sometimes the lab experiments go awry, but I've managed to not blow anything up yet!!!

Today I used both hands to hold the razor. I was quite pleased with my progress using my left hand to get into my hard to reach places. Under Jaw line.
While beaming with pride because I was successfully using my left hand I bumped into my cheek. Lucky for me I am no longer taking Coumadin :)
Clots much quicker...
I find that I am using a straight razor more often than my DE.
