Since Rick is on the subject of Homemade Hair Tonics, I might as well put this in. I like to use Lucky Tiger Special Formula Hair Tonic. I was skeptical at first but it turned out to be really nice and my wife and daughter love the scent. The problem? Discontinued. A number of Lucky Tiger products are going away. Never to be seen again. I had to take it out of my rotation to save it for special occasions. So now what? I have Osage Rub but that's too strong for the office. Got any suggestions or favorites?
SM:
I have tried the Pashana offerings (Blue Orchid and another I cant think of the name.......) and find them pleasant but not exactly what I need.
They are not the brillantines (read: with oil) and dont add much more than a pretty scent to my mane.
Been using the Brylcreem, Groom N Clean, VO5 ( yep...you heard me right) and some other off -the -wall stuffs for awhile now but I still havent found the right combo of products to complement my hair grooming rituals.
Until recently........
Here's my routine:
Shower and towel dry hair.
Add product and then blow dry
Add styling product and finish
So.
Long story short.....
Ive made my own hair tonic from:
Murray and Lanmans Florida water
Vitamin E oil (hey ! Its what I had laying around :o)
Some Glycerine
Spritz some of that on and then blow dry, rub in a snurdle of styling paste / cream / pomade / whatever I have around and I'm good to go.
I'm still looking for suggestions on a good carrier oil for my M&L Florida Water.
MAN !
I love that stuff.

How's about mineral oil? It shouldn't provide a scent to the overall concoction, and won't go rancid.

The Groom N Clean was like a gel, yes? I remember in Israel that stuff, I think.

Mineral oil would most likely leave hair feeling quite oily, I think.
Jojoba oil restores and conditions hair.
Grapeseed oil is a lightweight oil, it may work.
Coconut oil, perhaps, Issy uses this in his hair, so it may work, too.
I would use a blend of several oils for a base carrier oil, though. Coconut oil solidifies at about room temp(?), so I wouldn't use too much in the base.
Perhaps Issy will chime in a bit on oils.

Hmm, good point. The jojoba oil sounds like it might be the ticket.

Jojoba is a bit expensive, though. So it might be a good idea to use a blend of oils.

I think when you blend oils you run into a problem of separation. Especially using a spritzer.
A nice mouse for you stylists out there comes in handy

True, Tom, but Rick is already using oils and water(?) for his hair tonic. He has to be experiencing some separation already, I would think.

Mouse for your computer, mousse for your hair. ;)
I'm cool with the separation issues.....
Quick shake and its good to go.
I like the Jojoba recommendation, MoM
I was thinking about that as well ;)

as JoAnna mentioned..Grapeseed is a great carrier, no odor and is much less expensive.
I happen to have a bottle of JoJoba oil on my desk and it's $11 for four ounces..
Not too expensive really.

Has anyone the ingredients of the Booster Sage Hair Tonic? I got a sampler and I'm a little afraid of using it because of my Phenoxyethanol allergic.

What is the purpose of hair tonic? Is it a gel, mousse, hairspray, pomade? Educate a newb.
