Ok......for those of us unfortunate to not get BBS every shave, Im wondering.....what do you look like after a shave. I know BBS is not feeling anything anywhere...but for those of us not doing that....out of will or frustration what are you looking like after a shave.

If it's near BBS and no nicks or weepers then that's OK.

an old barber's manual I have says that the purpose of shaving is to remove the VISIBLE hair.
So long as I accomplish that, I've gotten a great shave. BBS is wonderful but it tends to irritate my skin if I try for that every day.
To answer the question more specifically, after shaving, I just look like a clean-shaven version of the ugly person I am.

What if you shave without your glasses or contacts? ;)
I don't know about anyone else, but "stubble" isn't visible without my glasses on. :D

My hair/skin combo is as such that (for me at least) even at near BBS I still see the colour of my beard even if nothing is there. I am probably just watching for it, it looks fine and neat but some days I wish I couldn't see it at all. Doubt that is possible unless I like.. rip it all out. :rofl

If it LOOKS clean (and you dont have a picky date) that works.

I never aspire to get a BBS shave so I'm content with having had a great shave and preferably no burn or nicks.

Sometimes just enjoying the experience is what is acceptable!
I still ask myself that same question
EVERY TIME I shave :o

I am the ultimate in the way of a profectionist, nothing less then perfect is aceptable each morning. My old electric razors could never deliver anything coming anywhere near BBS and thsoe terrible cartridge razors could get me 40% of the way there. Only the double edge can get me there so far.

No, not really.
sorry. :ashamed001
But if the hairs aren't visible without your glasses on, according to the barber's manual, there's no purpose in shaving. ;) Right? :rofl

Have not attained BBS yet. So a near BBS, no blood or irritation is good. Plus just using DE razors, good creams and soaps plus after shaves, EDC's, EDT's, ect...

Man, if that's true then I might as well toss all my wetshaving gear out the window. Shaving down to the skin means that I can easily shave twice a day.

Ditto. Plus I feel a big part of shaving is enjoying the shave. Which, for me, does not mean scraping so much that my cheeks are raw.
I want my shave to be :happy036 and not for my face to look like

I am neither old or a barber, I am an OCD, addiction disorder, perfectionist shave geek and just removing the visible hair can never be enough. I have to remove the invisible hair also. One problem, how does one tell if the invisible hair is removed?;)

When you start bleeding and our face looks like a Martian Landscape. :D BTW, this morning's shave was not acceptable. It's what I get for going ATG with the Feather ACD-N in the notorious neck hollows. On a good note, fixed my jawline problem.

Because I have a tough beard which is also very black, it's usually somewhat slightly visible after my shave, unless I do an extra pass with my straight. Then I can say I'm really BBS, and ultra clean-shaven! The rest of the week, I just thank goodness for what I did in the morning.

Just a small note, my wife has never commented on my shaving; But today she made a remark about that I had missed a very small patch right under the jawline... I guess I have spoiled her with good shaves lately :p

My wife started to complain about the number of shave soaps, creams, and razor I was collecting. She asking how many do you need ? Well, need has nothing to do with it ! Anyway, I have perfected the art of buying with cash and hiding under cabinet !!!!!!! :rofl

I don't go for BBS on every shave, sometimes when pressed for time there is no way to get in an additional pass or two....but, when the time is available and the prep and lather are where they need to be, it sure is nice...
as far as what's acceptable, I'd also say that depends on what in store for the day :)

As for an acceptable shave to everyone else, a single N-S pass works well for me. There is no visible hair left and I won't get any irritation. However, I can never stop at just one pass because I can't stand feeling the remaining stubble. I usually do a two-pass, semi-BBS shave. Basically, I'm smooth every direction except directly S-N. SWMBO (whoever SWMBO is these days - these things fluctuate like the stock market) always rubs my face from the ear to the chin. When I go for BBS, I keep that in mind and make a third pass but generally, my semi-BBS shave is plenty smooth.

Neale, even if I wanted to make every day a BBS shave, I don't have enough time in the morning, sometimes, I have to just make one quick pass, and leave the house with that. I sometimes feel like I didn't make a good, and nice shave. :(

When that happens to me, I try to compensate in the evening.
As a matter of fact, I prefer the evenings, and just some touch-ups in the morning if needed for what the day may demand from me. It takes the pressure and stress out of the morning chores...

I have it pretty good in that my beard allows me to get BBS just about every time I use a DE. Three passes
I am learning Straight Razor shaving and for this I concentrate on technique. If I am doing well this day I will do three passes and NOT be anywhere near BBS but it looks like I'm shaven.
When I can Str8 shave and not be bloodied ....THAT is a WIN for me...Technique and the basics...Find what works for me with the Str8. The shaves with the Str8 arte getting smoother every time I use the Str8 :)
Tom
I do know that there will be days when the razor wins and I'm lucky to come out alive
hahahahaha

It's funny. I always found straight razor shaving to be easier than DE shaving. Right from the start, I was getting great shaves with a straight. The smoothness lasted longer and I got very little irritation. I stopped using a straight because of my incompetence stropping and honing. Tom, if you ever get the hang of a straight, you might never go back to a DE.

Thats pretty much where I am with it.
BBS is nice to achieve as the occasion demands, but I havent found that to be often. More often than not I aim for a clean shaven appearance that my wife will accept, and its easy to tell when that is.
But it isnt strictly bbs.

I regularly get a BBS as long as I feel with the grain. If I rub my fingers on my face ATG, I can feel lil whiskers

bbs is a "feeling", and results in a highly personal level of satisfaction. Most people observing won't be able to tell the difference between a two pass DE shave and clean up, and BBS. That is unless they are Very Close. ;)

For me if I look presentable that's cool. I'll go for the BBS on occasion but it isn't a have-to-must-do-it sort of thing. The irritation I experience if I do it on a daily basis isn't worth it. I also will skip a day or two now and again to give the face a break.

If I feel smooth WTG, it's acceptable for a busy day/ rushed shave.
I really try for BBS daily, simply because it's embarasing to tell someone I sharpen straights for a living when I'm not absolutely clean shaven.
the real question is what was acceptable when you were shaving with a Muck 3, if your shaves are now better than that, be happy.
