I experimented with comparing a vintage razorblade to a gentle blade with known performance. The vintage blade was indeed harsher on the skin, but nowhere near what I have experienced with Treet Blue and vintage Gillette Thin. I doubt the vintage blade will be a regular in my rotation :D

I look forward to try the razor further soon, with more focus on the razor instead of the blade :)

Surprisingly the Sensor mowed down the last few patches of micro-stubble without a single problem. I guess it really IS all about pre-shave prep, more than anything. The J/A/S/O/N Witch Vera gel is NICE stuff... but it's a bit thick for me -- had to cut it with just a bit of hydrosol.

And I've always rinsed between passes... never felt quite right when I would try not rinsing in between. And I, too, have been cutting out the CWR from my post-shaves lately. Jury's still out on if that will be permanent or not.

Result: 2.2/5.0 Remind me why I try to do an ATG pass with a Feather ACD-N razor again? It's great for the jaw line. Fixes that bad spot nicely. It's fine for under the chin. It's fine on the cheeks but, the neck? Forget it. What a weeping mess. Four, count them four weepers. I had to break out the alum block but no styptic and saved the shave. Actually, except for the weepers, the shave was great. So, as I sit here and enjoy my BBS shave minus a layer of skin in some spots, I'll try and remember then next time I'm tempted to do that.

Oh, I forgot to mention, I used the Old Spice Pure Sport Aftershave Mon-Wed. Very nice for $5. I tried the Pre de Provence and the Institut Karite 25% Shave Soaps this week too. I need to use them a couple of more times before rendering an opinion but first impressions were decent. Along with the Old Spice, I got a 10 pack of Personna Blades for I think $1.57 at Wal-Mart. OK, so like nobody told me these were good blades? Not as good as a Derby or Feather but respectable. I threw them into a Merkur 38C Razor and ended up with a nice combination. Who knew?

im glad your enjoying the razor Boubi, I dont know what it is with these razors but they seem indeed like a match made in heaven for Derby blades im glad im not the only one noticing this. sofar I only tested Derby's and Feathers and the russian Gillette's in these.

I havent taken the R91 for a spin drive yet , but today I want to do a str8 shave long for it after seeing the movie Sweeney Todd .

Result: 4.4/5.0 Recovering from yesterday. I use the Feather ACD-N just on cheeks and jaw line. No nicks, weepers or cuts and only minor redness on a couple of spots that were already beat up. The second go round with the Institut Karite 25% Shea Butter Soap was quite nice. I pre softened the soap a little longer and it bloomed nicely in the bowl and on my face.

Wow! I think this was the best lather I've ever had! (Thanks Baloosh!) TSD Avalanche SS and Proraso SC complements eachother perfectly! It was also my maiden voyage with a straight. I did the first pass with a straight, and the following with my Mergress... Interesting, I have a lot to learn still with that straight.. but I can see this coming back in my rotation!

All this coupled with a great shower with my homemade OO soap and a pint of bitter

First time using the Acca Kappa Almond soap. Well, I was impressed and I wasn't.
I had trouble whipping up lasting lather, it was unstable. But many triple-milled soaps have this kinda trouble on their first use, so that's no definitive statement yet.
The not-so-satisfying lather aside I had a GREAT shave. 99% BBS, irritaion-free, smooth, moisturizing, yadda yadda yadda. So, I'm very contempt with this soap, even should the lather stay that way. I'll keep ya updated!

Been a while since I used the BK8. Man, what a great brush! Kinda hard to fit it into the soap tub though. :D Still have some lather left over if anyone needs some.

As for the Roses, no contest. The scent of the TSD soap put the others to shame! Not only is the scent stronger, but it smells more like roses! Lather was simply outstanding. Thick, rich, creamy, lubricating - and it smelled wonderful!

Just received the 1960 Tech yesterday, complete with the box. The box is kinda rough which is expected for 48 YO cardboard, but I swear the razor had never been used. A nice razor - shaves great.

3 Passes with the straight watching the movie gave me confidence again to use it. very nice shave and no need to use a DE because the shave is as good as a DE .but no wonder this is one my sharpest Str8 and I did quite a few laps on the .5 paste and the leather.
One tiny cut under my chin a bit of blood but the verguldehand alumn block tackled it bleeding stopped instant.

very sharp lethal razor Joe C is quite the hone dude + he did the nice wooden scales.

this one is a keeper.

My 2nd shave with a straight. Today I used only the Wapi and the end result is no way near what I'm used to. But I'll get there, rest assured :p

After wonderful result with combining TSD Avalanche SS and Proraso SC I had a look in my cabinet to see what else might complement eachother and saw TSD Patchouli SS and Tabac Original SC as a potentially successful marriage. Indeed was I right, the deep earthy aroma of the Patchouli complemented by the musky scent of the Tabac was just great!

No way near BBS (I could probably sand a 2 by 4 ;)), but yet again a great shave!

The side of the blade isn't actually touching the soap container. It's an optical illusion. The razor has a small piece of wood under the velvet forming a support for it.

I did some reading up and one piece of advice I took to heart was to strop the blade 50 times on each side before the shave... this made wonders for the edge! I also read that the blade angle should be 30 degrees, or angled 2 spine widths, I guess that also helped!

What makes me really happy is that haven't slashed any major parts of my physique with the razor, all I've had so far is shaves ranging from terrible to bad and a slight sensation of razor burn. I guess I should call myself lucky so far :p

Keep up the good work, you'll have it down in no time. If you bought that Wapi from the fellow in Poland he sells Thuringen hones may also be an option for you...he also sells diamond abrasives and other hones too ;) Try to use very light to no pressure, perhaps that will cut down some of the razor burn?
