Hi,
I was wondering if anyone had tried one of these? They are £90 and that's quite a wedge to lay out on something I know nothing about. I have a Simpsons Duke 2 which I think is perfect. So does anyone know how different it is to that?
Cheers

The Simpsons Major is a very fine brush. I have the Duke 3, and certainly the Major works as well. It is a special-purpose brush, obviously, but you could also use it at home. I do like a slightly larger knot, but still the Major will hold enough lather for 3 passes with no problem.

I have a Simpson Case, in the travel case, and it is a quality brush. I have yet to find a Simpson I didn't like!
Go for it...Tho it is a lot of coin.
Why is it so much $?
Is it a Superfine badger?

This is one I've considered but I don't travel near enough to really justify it. I'll eventually get it as my goal is to someday achieve drP's collection :rofl
Right now I have a Simpson Duke 1 that fits perfectly in to the travel tube for the Case. I sold the Case off as it was a bit too small and the Duke 1 is a much better travel brush for me. I got my dealer to hook me up with an empty Simpson tube, so I have a cool travel Duke 1 setup
I also have a Vulfix turnback, which is an outstanding brush as well.

using the Case tube was an inspiration!
The Dukes are smaller than I had imagined..to fit inside the Case tube

Gents,
HAve any of you fallen upon any shedders? I read so many nightmare stories regarding simpson brushes and customer service that I just can't seem to pull myself together and just order one. (You'd think I was talking about some life-altering dilemna, but nope; a shaving brush :ashamed001)

Hi Momo, I've only read about shedders. But many folk have reported that with recent purchases there are no shedders.
Go and do it!
:)

I gotta pace myself right, or else SWMBO will... well, let's just say she won't be very happy.
Strategy time!

Not all recent purchases are good ones. I bought one in November from Emsplace and got another for Christmas (also Em's) and have had no problems so far. One other guy here bought one from Lee in October/November (Lee's shipment had just been received from Simpsons I believe). He's already had to have it replaced. The good news is, both Emily and Lee will DO that. Just a shame they have to.

I have 9 Simpsons and thankfully none have been shedders. Some lose a hair or two here and there, but nothing that would warrant replacement. Guess I've been lucky.

Tell me about it. It kinda sucks that the worlds foremost shaving brush company has to stain its rep given what's been going on with not only their brushes, but the impossible availabilty of Coates creams as well. :(
As for you gents who use simpson brushes, do any of you have any SR silvertips? If so, could you compare the two for me, since that would be my reference point inasmuch as silvertip hair is concerned.

1 brush a month times 12 months times 20 years = 240 brushes. That should be enough. Better get cracking Mike. You have a long way to go. :D

I don't think it's luck, Mike.
I think getting a shedder is unlucky..getting a good one is ...well...normal
Michael (Fergie), do you know for a fact that this other guy had a shedder?
When I read your post I was thinking you had a shedder ; then the shedding issue became fact to me. If you know this to be fact I'll take it as such
:)
Is Simpson just getting a bad rap?..It's like a dogpile when a negative thing like this gets carried on ...on the net...
I think a lot of folk ... maybe just some folk..have held off buying a Simpson because of this noteriety...

Yes, I know it for a fact. And I know Lee replaced it. Neither of my Simpson brushes have shed yet. Couple of hairs from one - that's it. I have heard reports of shedding that started months after first use though, and I have no reason to doubt those reports. Guess I'll find out.

Tom, that was probably my Tulip 2 that Michael was talking about. Yes it was a shedder and it has been replaced with one that is not. I had a Rooney 3, 1 that was also a shedder, it was replaced as well. You just never know when one from any brush manufacturer will show up. I don't worry about it, if I want a brush, I'll get it. All of the vendors I have delt with stand behind their product. It is a pain for both the vendor and the buyer, but it happens.
Almost every brush will loose a hair here and there, it's when you're shaving them off your face or you get a "pelt" from shaking the brush out or the knot falls out  that it becomes annoying. :D

Like my Mühle Best Badger brush. It was kinda annoying having to pick those long badger hairs off your face after each lathering-pass. The brush lost hairs after the first months of use nearly every time - 1-4 hairs at a time. They'll replace it now with no questions asked.
That's what I expect from every vendor and manufacturer - be it Simpsons, Plisson, Kent or Mühle :)

Steve, I hope that this is the case. There will be sample to sample failures. AND I am one of those who believe that the badger knots are made by very few companies.
WOW!
I just got the picture of a shave where ther's more hair in the bowl than was on my face
Hahahahaha

And, by the way, if I hadn't known it to be fact, I wouldn't have posted it.
