I've seen several threads of "if you only had one soap" or "what's your favorite soap", but never any that are "what are you really wanting to try next".

So, I'd like to know what others are aching to try out. I've tried quite a few, from $1.50 VDH soap to $30+ penhaligons/floris soaps. Of all the soaps I've tried, I still have the ones below that I want to try out;

Tabac
Joris
Institut Karite
TSD
Speick
Culmak (I've heard that T&H soap is the same thing, but don't know)
Gold Dachs/Rivivage
Olivia Soaps
Proraso Green tea
Osma Savon
Durance L'ome

And for background, these are what I've tried already;

Floris
Penhaligons
T&H
Trumpers
Taylors
La Toja
Lea
Boots
Palmolive
Arko
Wilkinson Sword (bowl and stick)
Mitchells/Kent
Ogallala Bay Rum
Pirates Cove Bay Rum
Williams
Van Der Hagen
Ver Gulde Hand
Honey Bee Spa
Saint Charles Shave
Susie Bubbles
Mama Bear
QED
Erasmic (bowl and stick)
Col Conk
L'Occitane
Pre De Provence
Provence Sante
Valobra
Art of Shaving
Cella Sapone
Vintage Yardley

..and I'm sure I'm missing a few that I've tried

Bump TSD to the top of that list. Any flavor, though I think Bay Rum is my favorite. Patchouli and Vetiver aren't far behind though.

No better way "to try" a soap.

Hi All,
Not too long ago, I asked JoAnna if she could mix in some of her wonderful 'lime' in with the bay rum I was ordering. She did, and I might recommend that combo. The nice bump of lime makes the bay rum even more interesting to me.

I've tried many, but I'd still like to try:

Penhaligon's (English fern, Blenheim)

TGQ soaps (not sure of the flavor I'd like)
TSD soaps (not sure of the flavor I'd like)

so.....who'll be sending those my way? ;)

+1 on the English Fern, I keep putting off getting it for some reason! Probably because I keep buying razors.... and I have far too many soaps as it is. However, I do have the Blenheim and you would have to do very nasty things to me to get that out of my grasp. I treated it to a Jet Black Penhalagons soap bowl (very classy) strangely; I only use it with my Mastro Livi as it is my favorite razor at the moment. (Pure luxury I guess)

I have the Penhaligons English Fern Soap, lathers nicely, shaves ok ....scent is not very good and barely resembles the cologne....:(

I have the old tallow based formula, the new formula will be coming out soon and I think for the most part is veggie based. Hope they improved the scent....

A good soap, but don't know that it's worth the lofty price.....

YMMV..............

How is the scent on the Blenheim Bouquet soap?

Hi Dave,

For me, it is a great soap....the 25% shea just works well for my skin type and I always seem to get a very nice shave using the IK...either with a DE or Straight....

I do recommend you give it a try, Provence Sante and Pre de Provence as also very nice...

YMMV though :)

Institut Karite is at the top of my list to try -- once I'e used a lot more of my stash. I'd also like to get some of the different "inexpensive" stuff -- J.M. Fraser, Ingram, Gillette, etc.

BTW, my custom TSD scent was Bergamot/Patchouli/Peppercorn (very nice!) -- in soap and cream. The Tea Tree is great too.

Yeah, the bowl is pretty expensive... pretty darn expensive to be exact :rofl

But, if you're quick, you can order it at the gentlemans-shop (http://www.gentlemans-shop.com/acatalog/AK_Wenge_Wood_Shaving_Soap_Bowl.html#a1351) for 40 quid (Pounds), that's 25 quid off the regular price. Taking into account that the old price of 65 quid was on the lower end of what the bowl goes for, you might just pay half the price of what you pay elsewhere ;)

But you have to be quick as it's their "January sale" ;)

Let's see, $98 for a bowl and soap or $12 for the same soap without the bowl (at menessentials).

How does it shave? If it's a good soap, I'll spring $12 for the soap, but not the extra $86 for the wood bowl.

...$86 can buy a lot of shave stuff. ;)

PdP is good stuff IMO, and more readily available in the US than some soaps.

The scent is light, but I like it a lot, kind of piney IMO.

Of the two that are fairly easy to find locally, I like the performance of Provence Sante' a bit more than PdP, but I like the scent of PdP more.

For those that have already tried the Gold Dachs, can the soap be lathered fairly easily in the tin. I can get a fairly good lather right out of the tin from my PdP (albeit w/a small brush) w/minimal mess. Was wondering if the GD was the same as it makes it good for travel.

The eshave avocaod & linden I picked up....smells and performs awfully similar to Provence Sante.

At the price I paid I'm happy w/the purchase, but if I'd paid regular price ($18) for a $10 puck of PS, I would've been upset.

Overall pretty good stuff.

Penhaligon's English Fern is next for me!
Get it while it's still made of tallow and before it goes veggie. It's great soap.

Hi All,
Well, I can cross one more off this list. I finally ordered a few of Gio's soaps recently, and will hopefully get them early next week. Man....I've been meaning to try his soaps for soooo long. What a relief.........heh. Never seems to end, which I like.

Recently traded for a puck of Roger & Gallet shaving soap. It's definitely odiferous, but not in a bad way, and it performs very well. My face seems really moisturized afterwards, the scent blends well w/my Caswell Massey Sandalwood balm and my favorite AS splash (German Pitralon). Overall, pretty good stuff IMO.

Sighhhhh,
Didn't get em yet...I'm guessing tomorrow or Friday will be it. I think the weather has slowed things up in general this week. His soaps get a lot of positive comments from many people, so I'm not worried about the performance. Nice to have the shaving forums to draw information from.
Oh.......I ordered some of JoAnna's soaps also. More lime (two tubs this time), but a few others in sample size that I've been meaning to get around to. The ones that have me really curious is the 'ginger' and also 'mayan gold'.
Man.......it never does end.

My list is pretty conservative:
• Tabac
• TSD
• Speick
• Olivia Soaps
• Penhaligons
• T&H
• Trumpers
• Taylors - Cross that bad boy off the list! Got me some Sandalwood and St. James...the scent is amazing on St. James!
• Mitchells/Kent
Cheers!

I’m a bit fatigued from trying new soaps & creams; so many disappointments, so few delightful surprises. However, if Yardley (and Yardley Black Label) shaving soap was readily available at a resaonable price, I’d be up for that!

Right now I'd just like to try any L'Occitane or Penhaligons (mainly Opus 1870, though I guess that's just in a cream version? I'm not too interested in English Fern)

Rick,
Thanks for the list of hard soaps. I have used only glycerine soaps so far and need to expand.
