Ok....

Thanks to Mike....who was my Secret Santa....ive been introduced to the Method Shaving.

Let me start off by saying WOW...to the lather it produces. Im using a Simpson Chubby 2 in best. I have the Cube and some Green Tea and Lime paste. THis stuff is SLICK. It gives volumes of lather. Im excited to actually shave with this. Ill keep you guys posted.

I visited with "crag" (Matt) today and we swapped some goodies.
He set me up with a bunch of cool things including some Hydrolast Eucalyptus cutting paste and 3 cubes.
So, I gave it a go.
Of course I didnt follow any of CAR's tips or techniques, I just went at it.
......I dont read instruction manuals
I loaded up my CH1 with the cube and then put a schmear of the cutting paste into the breech and took the mess to my face.
This stuff is pretty slick ! altho the smell aint the greatest.
The cube has a definite aroma that I had a hard time liking.
I also used a new razor (red tip SS) so its a miracle the shave came out as well as it did.
Looking forward to more quality time with the Hydrolast brand.

Rick,

Once you load the breach with the paste go back to the cube, add a few drops of water and watch the lather develop. Then take the brush to the face. I know the smell is not the the best but the stuff works, trust me on that one. It is no miracle the shave was good it is the result of good shaving technique and a high quality product. And YES it is very slick. You dont have to follow the cutting forms, I don't, yet I get great shaves with the Hydrolast method.

How did your skin felt after the shave?

Raf

Raf,
my face felt a little raw, actually but that wasnt from the CAR products.
The RedTip was a new weapon and I loaded her up with a Feather.
Good News is that after an hour or so everything calmed down and is fine and wonderful now.
I'll use the stuff again tonight with my Sticky and will report back with my results.
.....pretty sure I'm gonna add some Tea Tree oil to the paste ;)

Does anyone have a problem with the lather being too slick? I never got enough cushion when I used Hydrolast products. I started wet shaving using Hydrolast products and I wasn't really prepared for the slickness. I had terrible irritation. I'm thinking of trying Method Shaving again but I need to know how to get more cushion and less slickness first. Any ideas?

I don't speak from experience, as I'm not a routine method shaver... but I do read a lot.

I would think that if you increase the amount of cutting balm, or even in using the new "activator" you may get the desired effect

Here's a post that seems to confirm this: http://www.theshaveden.com/forum/showpost.php?p=9440&postcount=14

Ugh. The more I read about people's experiences with RMWS, the more I feel I have to try it... however I'm not going to drop even a cursory amount on a cube and paste without having used any of it previously, in case I don't like it. Then I'm stuck trying to dump a cube and paste, etc.

The idea of sampler packs has been brought up to Charles before, but it would seem that he has neither the time nor the inclination to put together a sampler pack of his various products for curious folks to try his stuff out.

I need to stop reading these threads. :D
