That is really great, Ken. I wonder if my family has one. I have English, German, and Irish blood.

We have a family tradition where Rings are custom made for the men (with our family seal) and depending on your family position, you get a ring of a certain metal.
Don't worry about Earlier.

My Great Great Great .... ? Grandfather built this house in the 1600's, which still stands in Portsmouth, N.H. as a historical site.
It is called The Jackson House. You can see pictures if you Google it.

I am the eldest (and only) son for my branch of the family, so my ring is Pure Silver.

Who gets Platinum?

Who gets Platinum?
Platinum does not exist in the scheme. 22k Gold is the highest rank. Platinum is a relatively 'new' metal and certainly MUCH more expensive.

This is the family Coat of Arms. It's pretty obscure.

This is one I made up myself and you might have seen before.

Well....heres a question. Why cant a person just make up their own coat of arms. What goes into a coat of arms. If you wanted to make one that would be passed forth through the family.

What would you put into your Coat of Arms?

Thats basically my question. What sort of things go into a coat of arms. I dont think it should be necessarily things i like per se...if its gonna be passed down from one generation to the next.

There are entire volumes as to what goes into and what is allowed in a coat of arms and it's different various European crests/arms I believe. I tried reading some of that a while ago and gave up. Too complicated. :D

You could in theory, but it would be easier (but expensive) to get one created for you. They are as Rich said a LOT of work. The research is crazy.

ooooh..... boy. :( I hate to be the party pooper, but here's a little about the proper protocol of Coats of Arms.
There is no such thing as a coat of arms for a surname or family name. Coats of arms belong to individuals, not families or surnames. For a person to have a right to a coat of arms, they must have either had it granted to them or be descended in the legitimate male line from the person to whom the coat of arms was originally granted or confirmed in the past.
I'll be on my way now...... don't want to cause any disturbance around here.....:taunt002

That is how mine works. My line can be tracked directly all the way back through the male members of my family.
Hence the Ring Tradition.. to pass it along to the son.

Also I wear my seal at all times and only seal in wax that is one of our family colours.
Specific ain't it.. :rofl

I would love to own a ring that can seal in wax. Man....some traditions are lost to time.

I am the only person I know who has one. When my father dies I will gain the right to cast my own Gold ring from the original ring mould that I will get, my silver one will be retired and when/if I have a son of my own a silver one will be cast for him.
That is the way it has worked for.. I don't know how long now. All I know is, if I don't have a son the tradition dies with me. :(

I was just gonna ask that..
Its a lot of responsibility that you dont screw up a tradition thats been going on for some time.

You have no idea the pressure I put on myself.. ever since I was old enough to really think about it. Yeah.. :rofl

Officially? No sadly not...
But as Isaac said.. most of the traditions are long gone...
