Can you remember the moment where you spotted an actor or actrice grabbing for a Straight razor or some vintage Gillette or a Merkur.
and you got excited because you can identify the tools used or are glad your favorite actor knows what he is doing because he is whipping up that lather like a maniac with a badger brush ?

Name the movie if you can remember , the actor and even greater if you have a screen shot.

Kill Bill 2 -2004 -

Uma Thurman gets burried alive ,they put her into a coffin.
she manages to grab a straight razor from her boots and cut loose her hands while she is burried deep under the ground.

The New Galactica Battlestar Series -2004-

Season 1 - Dont remember which episode.

Edward James Olmos who plays Adama can be seen shaving with a Gillette Blackhandle vintage and cuts himself while shaving his neck. (the cut was for the movie he is a good enough shaver to not be so dumb)

Season 3 - Episode 4 Exodus 2

Edward James Olmos has finally gotten the people back who he had to leave behind for 4 months on a planet. The people had been living there for a year already but he kept into space with his space ship. the crew all grew some more weight on themselfs and def. let their hair and moustache grow.
To celebrate this what better to do then a nice shave so he cuts his moustache off as close as possible and fire's up his Merkur Vision.

DE sightings:

In "The Aviator" there's a scene where Ava Gardner is shaving Howard Hughes with a DE, preparing him for the senate hearings after he'd let himself go to seed. The razor looked really crusty -- maybe this was intentional, to highlight Hughes' germ phobia. She didn't do a very good job...

"The Graduate" -- Dustin Hoffman's character trying to shave while his mother is nagging him.

"Carnal Knowledge" -- Art Garfunkel's character trying to shave while Jack Nicholson is haranguing him.

I think the reason the shaving scenes stuck with me when I saw those last two movies (long before I was into DE razors), was how careful both men were being about their shaves -- unlike Ava, they actually knew what they were doing...

This weeks Series in Heroes shows the evil man Sylar shaving his beard before he visits his mother.

My heart skipped some beats ! when I saw the angle he was using and he used the straight in one motion from neck over the cheek area in one Sweep ! never seen such a move ever ! on top he holds the razor at a 90 !  degree angle compared to the skin so your actually scraping the beard very odd ! but he pulls it off nonetheless something you have to see for yourself.

its a typical Dubl Duck scale on the razor..anyways serie is fresh so you can easily find it online.

There's a scene in Hannibal where a girl is shaving a guys chest w/a DE. This is one of Hannibals "victims" and is towards the end of the movie.

On a different note, does anyone remembers the commercials of the twentysomething guy who's going to live in his corolla/sentra/whatever car for a week?

Well, I collect comics as well, and there's a picture of this guy shaving in his car using his rearview mirror. He's using a mach 3 or whatever, but lo and behold right next to the stickshift is a badger brush and shaving mug.

Fellas, to me that says something when a big co. like Nissan or Toyota puts a badger brush in one of their ads.

In season 2 Francis Wollcot kills a 2 prostitutes and the Madam with a straight.

I know it has already been mentioned but I just watched Battlestar galactica Season 3. Early in the season Admiral Adama uses a Merkur, later Helo is seen lathering with a brush (really thin lather, must be conserving) but he is never shown shaving. Later, maybe the second to last or the last episode, Adama lathers up with a brush, a bit better than Helo's lather. Again he pulls out his merkur, and again he cuts his neck. I bet they are running low on DEs.
Merkur should make a BSG special based on the centurion design.

In Beau Brummell: This Charming Man (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0788026/), James Purefoy as Beau Brummell shaves with a straight razor. Unfortunately it's more of a "theatrical shave" than a real shave, but I like the way he wears a towel over his shoulder to wipe the razor while shaving.

I liked the scene in Reservoir Dogs when Mr. Blonde slashes the cops face then cuts off his ear with a straight. He then picks up the ear and talks into it. IIRC he said "Can ya hear me?"
Also, in a couple episodes of lost there are shaving scenes. Come to think of it though I don't think they were DE's but Desmond is shaving in "The Hatch" when they finally get the door opened and then John Lock is in the bathroom shaving when somebody else is showering. John says something like "The steam opens up my pores"

Come to think of it though I don't think they were DE's but Desmond is shaving in "The Hatch" when they finally get the door opened and then John Lock is in the bathroom shaving when somebody else is showering. John says something like "The steam opens up my pores"

It was Jack in the shower. And then Locke "causally" mentions that he thought it'd be a good time to talk about their "problem," referring to The Other they were holding in the ex-gun locker. That scene was so husband and wifey, I was cracking up!

Though I'm not sure that counts as a shaving scene! :)

No I guess it doesn't but it made me laugh my arse off.

So true... I'm looking forward to tonights episode. I just started watching it last year. I rented all the dvd's so I could catch up and now I have to wait a week between episodes ARGH! I used to buycott the show because when they are filming in downtown Honolulu streets they reap havoc on our already screwed up traffic. I got over it though and started watching and am now totally hooked. Sorry to stray off topic. Wont happen again.

I watched North By Northwest this weekend. It's been mentioned, but it is a memorable scene with Cary Grant using Eva Marie Saint's a comically-tiny travel DE and Brush in the restroom of a train station.

Memorable scene in the second season of Deadwood, where Garret Dillihunt's character Mr. Wolcott, "Settles Accounts" at a brothel with a straight razor.
