Greetings to all TSD members...
I am new to the site, but not to wetshaving.
Most of my razors are Gillette Super Speeds (given my Username, ARE YOU SURPRISED???).
There are also Gillette Adjustables, Techs, Open-Combs, and my first...a Merkur Slant Bar...in my rotation.
Many of my consumable products (and a couple of brushes) came from Tryphon courtesy of that fine gentleman, Giovanni. Nice to be able to say that without being censored or banned!!!
I am really looking forward to exploring and posting on your (most excellent!) website.
I would like to extend my very best wishes for a superb 2008 to fellow enthusiasts here!!!

Thanks, Ken.
Thanks Rick.
I am living in Schuylkill County, near Pottsville. That's the home of Yuengling Beer, America's Oldest Brewery!
Originally, I'm from Philadelphia.
I know...I know...it is LATE here on the East Coast for me to be up. Too much caffeine perhaps??? Or maybe I'm just waiting for another opportunity to shave!

Ahhh...JoAnna! Hello to YOU!!!
I first learned about you and this site from Giovanni's R & B forum.
I'm VERY glad to be here and you folks certainly seem hospitable! It looks like a great forum and I am smack-dab in the middle of the experimenting/learning continuum, but--then again--aren't we ALL?
Once again--great website and thanks much for the warm welcome!

We are certainly glad you are here too, Morrie!
I also seem to have had too much caffeine this evening. ;)
This group is definetly hospitable! A great bunch!
I, on the other hand, get a bit moody now and then, but I really don't mean any harm. :ashamed001 Some call me "Queen", and some call me "MoM", and I guess that about sums up the moodiness issue. ;)

Well, moody is understandable given your level of responsibility!
Not a problem at all. At our Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, I routinely have to deal with/feed/clean and water some pretty moody critters...
Most notably would be "Windigo," our 40-pound (almost) Canadian Lynx.
Second place would be a toss-up between several Birds of Prey we have as permanent residents for educational and/or foster parenting purposes.
I suppose I'm pretty "thick-skinned" (well, except for my FACE)! I have shaved off the beard in my avatar, leaving just a moustache and a bit of a goatee. Hmmm...these usually are risky areas to shave--so there you have an example of form following function!
I am off to sleep (finally) and will be checking back at TSD regularly!
Thank you again,
Morrie

Hi Morrie,
I know you are going to like it here. The people are great. Sometimes, though, I feel so at home that I forget I am in a public forum and just say whatever comes to mind . So, if I say something really dumb, just pretend you didn't see it. Oh, and please ignore all typos as well ;).
Have fun and I look forward to learning from you!

Personaly I am a devotee of that great shaving instrument that Gillette calls the Super Speed. I have one from each decade that the super speeds were made, with the exception of the black tip. Skipped that one since it was made of aluminum. Also have a speedway and a tech, although the shave is almost as good as the super speeds I seem to keep cutting my fingers on the blades when I handle three piece razors.
Do you agree Super Speed that the black tip Super speed is not as good as some fo the other modes since it was made of aluminum.

Wow...you nice folks sure do know how to make a guy feel right at home!
Thanks for the "welcomes!!"
FINALLY got the chance to sit down tonight. Here's a quick few notes regarding posts in this thread:
> jbcohen: I have never handled a BLACK TIPPED Super Speed, but I have read they have an aluminum handle (and a plastic TTO knob). This is not always the case, I believe, as I have seen some pics and descriptions of a few with a heavier metal handle more like the older, non-flared tip Super Speeds. I would be inclined to believe an aluminum-handled, plastic-tipped version would be somewhat lacking in the "balance and feel" department!
There are also BLUE TIPPED (for lighter beards) and RED TIPPED (for heavier beards) versions made around the same time (1954--1956?). No personal experience here, either, but I am led to believe these had non-aluminum handles and metal (painted) TTO knobs. I would love to have the chance to learn more about these models!
Oh...some advice for those pesky 3-piece Techs (!): try just barely loosening the head by holding thumb and forefinger at the (unsharpened, of course!) outer edgesl Then: push the razor (held head-down) onto a towel, so you can unscrew (or subsequently tighten) it all the way while no longer touching the head. When changing blades, after removing the head from the handle this way...just carefully lift off the floorplate/guard and "drop" a blade onto the head (passing it through the long screw). Replace the floorplate/guard and proceed as above. I find in this way I have minimized actual "blade handling" which, I strongly feel, is a GOOD thing!!!
>Susie: Thank you! You should be able to check out the Wildlife Center at the home page shown in my profile. If not, let me know and I'll get the info to you. You should click the links on the left side of the Center's home page titled: "Rehab Stories" for some information and pictures/short videos!
>IsaacRN: Of COURSE I like Aqua Velva! I am a "Mentholhead" at heart, but find it well within my limited abilities to enjoy MANY DIFFERENT scent experiences! I've been known to talk like a Pirate after Bay Rum and like a Brit after a good Lime shaving adventure!
>AND ALL THE REST...: I will "talk" with you later, I hope!
The Very Best Regards,
Morrie

IsaacRN: Thank You! Does re-wrapping my vintage blades in HALL'S MENTHO-LYPTUS wrappers qualify me? All kidding aside...I was experimenting and wanted to save a once-used Gillette "Super Stainless" (out of an old metal dispenser) for a future shave...so I looked around, saw a bag of HALL'S, and said "hmmmm...this'll work!" (it DID!). LOL

Thanks, Will.
I see you are "Will M" from the R & B forum!
Glad to (finally) be here--VERY nice place as far as I can tell.
I will be trying your "hot towel prep" over the weekend--really looking forward to it. I will substitute a different cream (don't have Noxzema on hand), but it does have Dimethicone so I should get "the full effect."
Again, the welcome is greatly appreciated.
