Hi there,

recently i got a TSD soap with sandalwood scent. Today I wanted to try it and was not able to get a good firm lather. Are there any hints for me? Should I wet the soap before swirling my brush on it? We have rather hard water here.

Are there any other hints? Could somebody make a pictorial for me on how to work with the soap?

Take care,
Stefan

Stefan, Rick's post is exactly what I've been doing (and I hadn't seen his post until just now). I get phenomenal results that way, though I don't have particularly hard water. With all SEVEN :ashamed001 of my EO soaps! Anyway, that would be my suggestion as well.

I ordered four more TSD soaps the other day - FO this time. (I can't help myself!!) They should arrive today. I'll have to wait until Saturday to try one though...

Tomorrow is TSD BAY RUM day for JoAnna!!

Good luck.

Thanks Guys.
Today I tried what Rick mentioned but the results weren't even better. Any other advices?
I tried it with a 23mm silvertip Brush. Should I change to a dark badger brush?

I find it takes a bit more water than i'm used to.

I have never had an issue with creating a great lather and my water is a tad on the hard side as well. I do let the soap soap for a little though as I do will all my soaps, I find lathers come much quicker that way.

Hi Stefan,
I saw the link Rick posted and I'd agree with what he suggests, EXCEPT that I definitely would keep some water in my brush when shaking it out. I tend to actually use a wetter brush with JoAnna's soap than any others such as HBS, TGQ, QED, and Mamabear products. Took me a few times to figure out that a wetter brush was needed to load the soap properly.
The other part about the 2 T water added to the bowl when poured off the soap sounds good, but once again, you may need a little more water than usual to achieve your goal. I DO know that it takes me an extra (besides the time I usually take) 30-45 seconds of bowl mixing and charging the brush before going to my face to finish lathering. It also takes me a little longer to get the lather to the 'tiny bubble' point when face lathering when using her soaps. They're definitely worth the time figuring out though.
I really enjoy both soaps of JoAnna's, but they are a little different to work with, at least for me. They take a little figuring out, but after that...........man, I get some nice shaves with her things.
Hope that helps a bit,
Martin

Oh, do I need to post the usual disclaimer of YMMV? Hehe.

I see you used one of the standard techniques Rick and I played around with a while back. That usually works well. I find with TSD soaps, I add more water than normal and also gently squeeze the lather out of the brush into the bowl, wet the tips of the brush and recharge it. I used this technique this morning and had more lather than I knew what to do with.

I think you'll find that TSD soaps are very different than others.

They are very hard (possibly harder than triple mill???), and really enjoy water.

Extra swirls, extra water....I would like to do a pictorial for the soap. Hopefully this year :ashamed001
