The other day I read a post here calling for lurkers to come in out of the cold and join the community. I thought to myself “they’re talking to me”; so here I am.
I’m 52 years old, retired Navy and I’m currently working as a government employed civilian at the U.S. Navy Base in Yokosuka, Japan.
I’ve been shaving with a DE and a brush for a few years now. I have various razors, blades, soaps, creams, lotions and brushes. I’m comfortable with my technique and the results from my shaves are very satisfactory. But, there was one thing missing in my little world of wet shaving; there was no one to share the joy of the shaving experience with. So, here I am – ready to share, listen and learn.
While I do have a few pricy items in my cache of shaving goodies, for the most part I’m a middle of the road, lower crust kind of guy. I’m perfectly happy shaving with Mama Bear’s or Honey Bee Sue soaps and shaving with a Merkur 3-piece or a Gillette Super Speed razor. And, drug store grade aftershave lotions are my middle name.
Well, anyway, I’m here now, and I’m damn glad of it!

Welcome aboard, Sailor (though I'm sure Doc, our resident Sailor, will object to MY saying that instead of him). I'm the guy who's guilty of inviting lurkers to sign up... Cool! It worked! Welcome to The Shave Den, Charles!!

I once spoke with a Navy Chief who had been put on report for his shaving technique. He was in the process of making a switch from those terrible cartridge razors to double edge or possibly a straight. That was not this forum but he sucessfully made the switch to double edge shavng.
I would like to say a hearty welcome to a salty sea dog and say do you have any questions for us?

Same here. In the world of wet shaving, there's no need to spend a lot to get a great shave.

Ahoy, HM2 Mottern, nice to make your acquaintance (and that goes for everyone else as well). I always treated the corpsman with respect; never knew when my life would depend on their service.
