Hi All,
I'm gonna grab a few of these things for next month's gift giving, and I'm wondering how others may have found em to be. The concept is pretty interesting, in that it uses a catalytic type of combustion to clean the air as well as scent it. The other thing about em is that there's some really beautiful styles they're made in. Seriously pretty things, and quite a few are under $100.00.
I won't recommend any particular vendor, since I haven't ordered yet, but take a look at a few of em. There's also a nice selection of scented oils available, and I'd be curious how those smell.
I read the thread for Lampe Berger over at 'Basenotes' recently, and it sounded a bit fascinating to me. Just thought I'd toss this out there.

Hi Ken,
Thanks for posting the pic and the review. That style was one I was looking at as well. They seem reasonably priced for what you get, and I'm glad to know it's worked out well for you. Heh, you're right about the 'signature' series being expensive, but a lot of the lamps start at $40 or so.

Hi JoAnna,
As I said, I've never ordered from these sites, but here's a few I found with nice selections. Each place has some that the others don't, and if you go to ebay for example, you'll see a LOT more styles as well.
Anyway, I looked at....among others:
www.imperialgalleries.com (http://www.imperialgalleries.com)
www.maisonbouquet.com (http://www.maisonbouquet.com)
www.heroeslampeberger.com (http://www.heroeslampeberger.com)

Here's a few styles I like for gifts.

Hope that helps,
Martin

I am currently looking for a second one but have been unable to find it locally. It is very Asian inspired and is around 100 dollars if I recall. I should really look for it again one of these days..

See if this site helps, although I don't know if that will answer your questions. Take a look at the 2007 collection while you're there. I might add that the prices on some items seem a bit........I would look around before buying something is all I'm saying. You always wanna shop around for anything like this, since there's additional reputable dealers to peruse as well. I have no personal previous knowledge or dealings with any of the companies I've mentioned here. Hehe, there's my small disclaimer.

Hi Ken,

Do you have the link to your thread on these? I'd like to learn more.

Thanks!!

I only posted about it in the Haul thread.

The oil does not last as long as I would have liked, typically for a refill of mine it lasts 5-6 burning on one fill. One fill is aprox 1/4 of the bottle, so I would conservatively estimate aprox 20-25 burnings per bottle.

The range of fragrances are great. Right now I have Green Apple in mine and it smells tart and fresh.

Interesting, I didn't expect to read that you extinguish it after 2 minutes.

Yeah, 2 minutes of burn time followed by 45 minutes of 'infusion' before you replace the cap. You can REALLY tell in the room too.. it is potent without being overwhelming.

I gave a couple of these to my wife and mother for gifts earlier this year - they were a big hit. These really do remove odors from the room as opposed to covering them up. We're still partial to the New Orleans scent that comes with them new.

Seems you can also make your own fuel for the Lampe Bergers, using a 91% or 99% Isopropyl Alcohol and EO's :D

Hiya,
I figured to give you a couple of days to play with your new toy before asking how it's working out. I was waiting for Isaac to post about his as well, but haven't heard anything yet.
So....whadda ya think? Does it perform as you'd hoped? Have you found the fragrances to be pleasant? I'd think that might be the Achilles heel to this, if there is one. Hehe, it's another of those YMMV sorta things all over again when it comes to how each scent smells to you! Oy veh.......a new can of worms is opened.
Would you recommend ordering an unscented oil to help cut the scented ones? Any surprises or anecdotes to relate? Just curious, as I have yet to order mine.

Hi Martin,

We are really liking the new Lampe, the only fragrance we have tried thus far is the Jasmine....It's really nice, although it can get a bit overpowering as it is extremely fragrant and very floral... We will need to try some of the other scents soon though..

I'd say get one, seems like a great way to freshen the air in your home...maybe try some of the less floral scents though unless you really like them..

Hiya kids,
Just wanted to mention I received my two Lampes today. One's the same model as Rick and Kens, only this is for a purple lover. The other's the 'Ottoman' style, which I'll include a pic of here.
Hehe, they're nicely wrapped in the boxes and I hate to disturb the packing since both are gifts. I'm gonna just wait to see em opened on Christmas..........maybe. I do want to make sure they're in good shape, so I'll eventually use that reason to finally open em up and take a look. It's my 'healthy curiosity' that will kick in eventually.
For many years I'd find nice paperweights to buy my (ex) wife on special occasions. I continued on with that tradition for a while with my daughter as well, but she never really got into it as much as her mom did. There's some real works of art that look especially beautiful with lighted stands to really show em off. Come to think of it, some of these lampes would also look great on a lighted stand of some kind.
Anyway, I'm just saying that there's so many great looking models to choose from, even if only mostly being used as decorative pieces. Purty little things.

The 'earl is pricey but my concern in making my own would be not having the correct type of oil9s) and somehow mucking up the wick, thus rendering the lampe: worthless.

Hi All,
Funniest thing happened just recently. A tobacco store near my house has started to carry the lamps and assorted scents. The fragrance samples (about 20 of em) are in small perfume bottles that have a roll on dispenser.....so you can get a better feel for what they will actually smell like. They have maybe 12-15 different lamps as well. I really liked the 'Winterwood' for having a nice sandalwood like fragrance. It's great being able to sniff before buying, as y'all might imagine.
JoAnna? I've heard that the older style wicks are better for burning non Lampe Berge oils. They are supposed to be more forgiving, from what one distributor had told me. Something to keep in mind. Yeah...... it's a pretty good toy.
Martin

Even if the wicks life was reduced, the cost of the homemade oil is so much less, it would offset the wick cost very fast. We'll have to let JoAnna tell us how much she uses her lamp, versus how long her wick is lasting.

My place has a very open space floor plan, about 1200 square feet, I'd guess. Either way, the scent hasn't been overwhelming at all.

The New Orleans oil that came with the Lampe lasted about 4 burnings, 2 days.

And the Lavender oil I made is lasting much longer, I think. I've used 8 ozs, over 5 days, 10 burnings.

You might find that once you have been using it for awhile you may not need it as often. I know when I bought mine it did a lot of de-ordourizing along with scent producing, but after a good week of solid using the more frequent uses were not needed.
