I too lazy to search now....incase this was asked before..opinions and choices can change :)

But, if you could only use ONE soap.....what would you currently choose?

Only one choice allowed, thank you...:D

Out of the few I've tried...I'll say..

Institut Karite 25% Shea

Wow! One soap? Hmmmmmmmm Most of the triple milled soaps I have used have performed really well. Their scents often leave something to be desired.
Many of the better ones will only come in 2-3 scents, some a little strange.
I will have to say that as a performer and scent wise that TSD variety of soaps would be at the top of my list. Scent, for me has a lot to do with the morning shave, it enhances the experience. Sooooooo since you're only giving me one, The Shave Den soaps would be it! :D

Hmmm tough one. Really tough.

I'd have to say it's a toss up between TSD and QED. Of those:

TSD Bamboo Teak (although I've not had a chance to order all the scents available yet, so that might change in the future)

QED Sandalwood (with Patchouli/Tea Tree/Peppermint a CLOSE second)

Man... this thread's requirement is only ONE. Bamboo Teak or Sandalwood? Wait.. to be honest I've not had a chance to try TSD's Sandalwood soap yet, so how can I make a fair decision, right?

Order placed! :D

Well, once I'd decided not to end it all rather then live in such a miserable world....I think I'd have to go with Tabac, but Colleen's TGQ Cavendish Black or Orange Patchouli would be a close second.

Hmmm, my favourite brand is D.R. Harris, but if I had to choose one, it probably would be MWF, because its scent is faint and neutral. If I can’t have a great variety of scents, I’d rather have something that I won’t get tired of.

Note that my opinion might change when I try Trumper’s rose shaving soap. Rose is something I can’t get tired of.

If one and only one - it would have to be four different ones. But if it were really one I believe it would be C&E SAO. The next three would be TSD bay Rum, QED Vetiver and Big Jims (My own) Lavender, Rosemary Orange.

It is nice soap, expensive though and the scent to me is pretty weak, not as strongly scented as their Rose cream...:(

I just got some TSD Victorian Rose soap from JoAnna, the scent is much stronger and the lather is great....:D

I also like the QED Wild Rose soap, but getting it is hit and miss as it seems it is only made in small batches..

Trumpers are Triple Milled as well, and while I consider myself a Trumper user first, there are days when TSD's soaps match Trumpers no question.

Sometimes price is not reflective of quality, TSD soaps could be work double easy IMO.

Didn't mean to imply that DR Harris was not an excellent soap (though, as you haven't tried TSD, I haven't tried Harris). All I'm saying is that, at $5.99, the TSD soap is a bargain. The scents are very nice and they lather and lubricate well. I've been using several of them for the past couple of weeks and am quite pleased. And this from a cream user who has never had much luck with soaps.

Give one a try, Austin. Or buy SIX! Same price as one Harris! :D Sorry, no wooden bowls though.

I am not implying TSD soaps are not good. I use Mama Bears, SaintCharlesShave and QED soaps from time to time. They are all quality soaps. Nevertheless, I find that I like triple milled soaps a tad better.

I've been using L'Occitane CADE quite a bit lately and liking it a lot, but one shave the other day with Tabac soap reminded me how excellent it is.

Tabac!

Edited to add - I've been a big Mamabear soap fan since giving up the canned goo but have been enjoying the triple milled stuff more and more lately. I'll be trying a few more of the fancy wooden bowl products in the coming months.

I have to say I'm surprised to see the C&E soaps mentioned in this thread. I received one as a gift last year, believe it was Sienna, liked the scent but it never did make a very good lather. I ended up using it as hand soap and didn't even like it for that............ first and only soap I ever tossed in the trash. As they say YMMV and I guess I just got a bad one. The C&E bowl fits CADE refills perfectly though so it wasn't a total loss.

Well,

It's been a couple months now, any changes in favorites lately?

Well,

It's been a couple months now, any changes in favorites lately?

Not yet, but I have some new ones on order and inbound to try:

DR Harris Arlington - the priciest one I've bought so far. Can it compete with Tabac at half the price?
Gold-Dachs - The consensus on this one seems as solid as Tabac, my current #1.

Still need to locate and order the Institute Karite soap. None of the places I'm used to ordering from seem to carry that one.

Hi Dave,

You can find the IK here:

http://www.razorandbrush.com/barberiasoap.html

or some e-bay stores carry it as well and Amazon.com has it too :)

Right now, I'm leaning towards T&H West Indian Limes. that was an amazing scent, and the cream really lathered up well...

yeah, I know. this was supposed to be a soap thread...

Harris Almond for an everyday, mildly scented, great lathering soap.

But there's always my stash of Penhaligon's English Fern...

i have found the TSD soaps work the best for me. this is not a dig on any other artisan soap makers out there!

as far as a scent - that's a tough one. i will say the black pepper essential oil that joanna was kind enough to make up for me.

Hi All,
For daily use......without any other options available to me.......I would have to go with Colleen's 'Leatherneck' soap. There's something about that scent that really grabs me like no other fragrance does. Plus, the performance is wonderful.
Martin

Hehe........a close second would be JoAnna's version of 'lime'. Also very wonderful, and I could use this one every day as well.

I'm really enjoying DR Harris Arlington these days when I use a soap. It might knock Tabac from the top of my list.

For some reason, over the past 3 months or so, I've found myself reaching for the traditional English hard soaps over the glycerins. I'm not sure why, but something about the quality of the lather has caught my fancy all of a sudden. :happy093 I'm very fond of my DR Harris Arlington soap and Floris JF. Penhaligon's, Trumper, and AOS are also up there as is MWF.

Yes, and now.

Fidelity is something I want but can never have. :ashamed001

I have found it with an A/S (I belive you already know)

But as far as soap I can decide between DVH, TSD, IK, MWF, Tabac, Taylor's Sandalwood, and Cella.

No change, I'm just (very) late getting here. So many of my favorites are already listed: MWF, Harris, Tabac, Cade, HBS.... If I had to go with just one, right now I'd probably fall in line with Old Saw and the others who voted for AOS. I'd go with Sandalwood, both on performance and scent. I actually have a pretty marginal sense of smell, which admittedly minimizes some of the gains from all our terrific scents; but, AOS is strong enough to "reach" me, and the supermodel I married expresses a very strong preference for my using it, too! ;)

I too lazy to search now....incase this was asked before..opinions and choices can change :)

But, if you could only use ONE soap.....what would you currently choose?

Only one choice allowed, thank you...:D
Hmm... I think I'd choose something I could wash my whole body with. What's a great shave if you can't have a decent shower? :D

I think I prefer cream over soap though
