I know of a few other VB boards that have an RSS feed that you can subscribe to using Google Reader or Firefox Live Bookmark. The usual icon to subscribe isn't in the address bar.

Is that available here? I don't have any idea how much trouble it is to setup but it is a nice way quickly get new posts without visiting the site.

Thanks for the nice place yall provide!

Glad to help out. We do what we can to make your time here as enjoyable as we can. I actually was working on one more step before I told you it was up, but anyways.... check out the upper navbar on the far right, or just click here (http://www.theshaveden.com/forum/cv_rss_feeds.php/)

The best way I can think of describing it would be kinda like the AP (associated press) in the media. We stream out our threads and posts to anybody who is looking to receive them. One example would be google. If you go to the TSD rss page, you can subscribe to different sections of the forum (or all) for a rss feed. If you click the google icon for your subscription, google can then stream in data to your customized google search page. It will have it's own little section just the weather block.

so.....why not just go to the new posts...of the forum. Is it that you can subscribe to specific forum threads?

And to do this all you have to do is click the google subscribe button in our TSD RSS page, and use the igoogle search page (subscribing will take you there by default once)

This is just one use for rss, but I think you get the idea on how it works...

Sparky, not only do you supply an RSS feed but you take it to the next level by adding the TSD RSS section! As of now, this is the only Shave forum that I know of that has such a large selection of feeds to choose from. Very impressive!! ::

IsaacRN, RSS is a matter of convenience. I read a number of tech blogs, news, sports, and other site types all in one place. It's like a list of bookmarks but instead of the link taking you to the web page it takes you to a list all of the articles that the web page has published that day, or since your last visit. So now while I'm checking and reading all of my regular sites, I can check the Shave Den without leaving the feed reader.

Google came out with there own RSS feed reader that is really nice

James, no need for thanks. :D

Good evening friends!
For those having problems understanding the procedure around RSS feeds, let me try to explain. IMHO, the easiest way is using (my favorite) web browser Mozilla Firefox (free!), or a browser with similar RSS functions.

Open The Shave Den's site in the browser. You'll see an icon at the right end of the address bar field (red circle). You click on the icon and a menu opens (red arrow) that gives you some choices as to which RSS feed (from this site [TSD]) to subscribe to.

After subscribing and choosing "life bookmarks" (in the window that opens then [no image of that one]), you'll see a new item in your bookmarks toolbar named "The Shave Den". Clicking on it opens a menu (red arrow) with links to the most recent messages. This menu is updated automatically by TSD's site without you doing anything!

What's the meaning of doing it this way? You can browse the net and whenever you feel like just click on your new "life feed" RSS item and check whether or not there is a message you you are interested in, in which case you click on this message to read it, or there is nothing you'd like to read right now and keep browsing. With other words, you can check what's going on on TSD, without opening the site. Faster browsing.

Hope this helped a little.

Excellent job Klaus. Thank you.

You can also use the rss page to subscribe to feeds, via our rss page (upper navbar)

Using RSS in either of the manners can give you the entire internet (at least the parts you care about) all from one place.
