My one compliant about the after shaves I have been using, Aqua Velva and Master's Bay Rum is that the scent does not last long, an hour tops. What do you recommend?

Its not really meant to last all day long. You can keep reapplying throughout the day if you like :P

That's what I do with the AV, I just keep reapplying it whenever I am near the shave closet at various points throughout the day.

With other aftershaves, like Tabac, 4711, Speick, and Old Spice, I also use their colognes which will definitely help their fragrance last much longer.

I believe that this requires further advice from forum members. If I was to follow the advice above I would be applying after shave once an hour or sometimes once ever half hour if that. Perhaps I need something with a much stronger scent. I have heard that Pinaud has a strong scent to it, someone said that the scent lasted on him for seven hours. Do colognes have stronger scents? How about Brut, in t erms of strength of the scent?

Aftershave it not meant to last all day. Most of them don't have the fragrance concentration a cologne has.

This is why I, and most others here, wear both a cologne and an aftershave. You do not have to choose one or the other.

Besides, who would want to smell like Aqua Velva all day long :signs113

Interesting Msandoval, when do you use the after shave? In the morning I presume. When do use use the cologne? I presume when you get to work or 10% through your day?

Here is smattering of why my area can get me, which do you recommend, with emphasis on length of the scent:

Aspen, Brut, Brut Revolution, Nautica, Michael Jordan, Realm, Halston Z-14, Stetson, Stetson Spray, Jovan, Jovan Spray, Paul Sebastian PS by Fine and Soul by Curve.

I put on aftershave, after I finish shaving. Hence the name aftershave.

After I finish getting dressed, fixing, hair etc, I put on my cologne before I walk out the door.

You usually want to choose a cologne that compliments your aftershave or an aftershave without as much scent to it. This is why I like DR Harris Pink Aftreshave so much.

As far as colognes, you're going to have to go sniffing and find one that you like. It's all personal preference. What I like, you may not care for and vice versa. Also depends what you are willing to spend for a cologne. Quality comes with a price.

What may last for hours on one person may not on another. Aftershaves and colognes have different reactions on different skins. You are going to have to go to your local mall and sniff around men's colognes counters until you find something you like and even then it may not last. I think Mike cover all the bases with his posts.

Aftershave is used AFTER the SHAVE.

Use Aftershave as Aftershave.

Use Cologne as Cologne.

Use both AS DIRECTED. :rofl

If you want a scent with some stay power that you may like (especially if you are an Aqua Velva fan) is Knize Ten.

One spray will last all day.

1-oz for 22 dollars (not bad considering the concentration).

My local area has a great selection, but the prices start at $65, a little pricey for me. So I think that I am going to start with Brut and sniff some others at a local drug stores. Prices there start at a more manageable level $8.

After seeing the prices at my local shops, an eyepoping $65 per bottle I cast in with a more affordable cologne - Brut. I put a dab on this morning three hours ago and I can still smell it. I think this is what the doctor ordered. May check out some online since the ones in my area sooo expensive.

if you want some AS that lasts long, try Clubman VI Bay rum. mind you, some don't dig the smell (CLOVES), but obviously, some do, or it wouldn't be around. Actually, I like it every once in a while. Also it is the most painful, take your breath away burn that you will experience in shaving, IMHO. It makes my first shave as a 13 year old with 50 ATG strokes from my mom's 2 year old leg razor on my dry upper lip peach fuzz followed by old spice seem like a minor annoyance... I do like a ABAS burn every so often though. Especially if the shave went perfectly. That "snap to attention" feeling can carry me the whole day, long after the scent is gone.;)
