I bought two of these from MB last week, and as I told her.....its do darn good, I kicked all the other OO cubes out of the shower! Method shavers would do themselves a favor to replace their "cube" with this....its so slick I can't describe in words. And, very moisturizing. Fragrance free as well.

I tried to buy her out of remaining stock, but she wouldn't let me:(

I just got a couple bars of the Toasted Coconut in and am evaluating it. I will give you folks a little feedback on this one in a few days.

Joe,

I know most OO soaps I've had don't lather all that great. How does the Issy OO lather? You mentioned using it to replace the cube, but how does it perform as a bath soap?

It lathers much like your other OO soaps do....

That said,

I don't know how he does it. His soaps are among the best I have ever used, and I have used MANY. The 100% OO performs much like his others....ultra-moisturzing. As it doesn't contain coconut oil, it won't lather nearly like one that does....but it is more than qualified as a bath soap (which is what I use it for). With a sponge/washcloth - you can of course build a mountain of lather with it. :)

This is an excellent soap for those with fragrance problems/allergies or dry skin.

100% OO soaps will lather like mad IF they've been 'cured' for over 6 months, or made with discounted liquid so they cure faster. We make ours with 100% milk that contains natural sugars which allows for a bit more bubbles. Of course, they'll never have the huge bubbles like soaps with coconut or palm kernal (which contain a high amount of lauric fatty acids) but they're (OO) far gentler than soaps that do.

Well at least I must finally be in the right part of the soap world. Been looking for some good moisturizing bath soaps that produce good lather and rinse easily for quite some time and have tried many who make that claim.

I just received a bar of the Muller's Lane 100% Coconut and 2 bars of the Issy Coconut from Mama Bear and from the first couple of showers, I must say I am impressed so far with the moisturizing effects of both of them. I plan to use them for a couple weeks before making any final conclusions.

I really, really like the coconut scent a lot more than I thought I would. It is just a nice clean fragrance and one I could definitely be happy with for the long run. I prefer clean scents such as this. I cannot handle strong flowery, perfumy scents in a bath soap.

I will definitely have to put a bar of the Issy OO on my wish list for the next order.

Ron, you have bought 2 of my favorite soaps in the entire world.. you cannot go wrong with either Mullers Lane Farm or Issy soaps.. I promise you I have tried so many it is frightening..

I have weeded out a lot of lousy soap over the years.. these are two of the finest, if not the finest soapmakers out there.. :)

Out of all the bath soaps I have bought, there has never been a time when I was happy with at least two of the soaps in the same order. One or more bars was either a scent I couldn't stand, or some performance [or lack thereof] issue I didn't like.

Both of these soaps are making me smile! I love the coconut scent more and more each morning. And both bars seem to be very moisturizing, lather well and rinse away easily. The lather is different that any other soap I've experienced. It's not a bubbly, foamy, exploding lather...it's more of a thick, rich, creamy, luxurious lather. It feels really good to my skin...especially during these winter months.

Ya know, I don't need a lot of variety when it comes to bath soaps. I could be happy with one scent if I really, really like it. I could be happier if I could find two scents I really like. The moisturizing, lather and rinsing are THE most important attributes in what I'm looking for. I might try some more scents now that I've found a soap that performs like I think it should.

I really enjoy the 100% coconut smell (and performance for that matter). The smell reminds me of the beach back home. I guess thats probably because a lot of sunscreen has coconut fragrance in it. Either way, its great stuff.

How does the issy oo compare to the other issy soaps? I've tried most of the scented issy, but never the oo.

It lathers like an OO soap, whereas the others (Issy soaps) tend to generate more lather, the OO is more of a creamy & slick consistency.

Hi Sue,

Thanks!!

Of Course I do... :p I sent two large boxes of fragrances to Issy a couple of weeks ago and he has been making soap like crazy.. We are both dying over the Bay Rum and Guiness Stout Beer soap... but he is making soaps for me that will match the shaving soap scents.

The problem with CP soap is that it needs a cure time before it can be sold.. and we are giving this next round 6 weeks... of course it has been 3 weeks now for some of the new ones, so expect a bunch of new soaps (and the old soap stock replentished) in the next few weeks..::

Matching Scented:
Issy Bar Soap or Mullers Lane Farm Bar Soap
Mama Bear Shave Soap
Get some decants of Mama Bear scent and add a few drops to your own custom After Shave Splash & After Shave Balm. Talk about ADholic bonanza! :D

Of course the scent would be so prevailing that your co workers might start avoiding you but you'll be in scent heaven!

Showered with Issy's Dragon's Blood Soap
Shampooed with Mama Bear Dragon's Blood Shampoo
Shaved with Mama Bear Dragon's Blood Shave Soap
Use Mama Bear Dragon's Blood Body Cream to moisturize
And finished off with Mama Bear Dragon's Blood Cologne

You can substitute any Mama Bear scent you want.

I thought I had read it before somewhere, but how do you use the homemade soaps?

I can burn through a bar of store bought soap pretty quickly just lathering the bar on my body. I usually use Lever 2000, because I get it soo cheap at Costco ( 16 bars for $6.99 ) But I am thinking I really need to try the Issy's

Does the use of a washcloth extend the lifespan of the homemade soap bars? How long does a bar last? I've never used a homemade bathsoap before and $6.99 a bar could get costly the way I burn through soap.

Thanks, sorry for the hi-jack

Yes, using a washcloth or spongey thing will increase the life of a soap bar.
It's just like shaving cream/soap on a brush: and a some water and a little goes a long way in making lather.

If you are picking up a bar of 100% Olive Oil Soap (which I recommend ;)), I would also recommend you pick up a few of them. Use one right away, and save the rest for later. These 100% OO bars will age like a fine wine.

It stars out looking like this, and works very well....excellent actually:
http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u239/TraderJoe_album/oooriginal.gif

And here's a bar that I had sitting in the closet for about 8 months:
http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u239/TraderJoe_album/agedIssy.jpg

You will see it has developed a brownish patina, and not only does it look great it works even better! (which I wouldn't have imagined possible). It was actually even darker when I first took it out, but that picture is after a few weeks of use.

The soap is very gentle, and should be kind to any skin....however, I would imagine that some may not find it to be "enough" for facial cleansing (those with oily skin perhaps might need the 80% OO bar)

Hi everyone,

I am brand new to the Shave Den and I have some questions about Issy's soaps. A little background. I have tried Nancy Boy, Santa Maria Novella, and Mitchell's WF soap (which I would rank in that order). I found the Nancy Boy to be very moisturizing and last a very long time. The Santa Maria is also very moisturizing but the bar doesn't last as long and is more than twice as expensive. I am not a fan of the Woolfat soap, it dried me up.
So:
1) How would you compare the moisturizing qualities of Issy's soap compared to either Nancy Boy or Santa Maria?

2) How does Issy's soap compare in terms of long it lasts compared to Nancy or Santa Maria.

3) What is the most moisturizing of the Issy's soaps?

4) Are all the soaps listed on his site the only ones available? I want to try the peppermint and coconut but the former is all sold out and the latter is not listed.

Thanks for your help everyone and I look forward to contributing to the board.

1) A vet that lives behind me did some free work for my Fathers dog so I gave her a bar of 100% OO soap, she rolled her eyes and said she uses Nancy Boy...2-3 days later she ordered 3 lbs of mine and ordered 6 lbs more a few weeks ago.

2) I cant tell you how long it lasts compared to others..I use mine..lol. But with any soap I would recomend using a soap dish and your soap will last longer.

3) I superfat at 6% and only use foodgrade oils so it's all guite moisturizing (to me anyhow). But the 100% OO would rank the highest.

4) I will be adding 4 more soaps this coming weekend and peppermint is one of them (taking a break to cook food...lol). I will be pouring more toasted coconut in a few weeks (was running low on oils so had to order a few hundred more Lbs)

I have made soap with as much as 25% real butter (bovine) and will be again for sure...it makes a wonderful soap. The next one will probably be a cranberry orange marmalade..kinda goes good with butter eh

PS I made more molds so I can keep more in stock as it takes 4 weeks to cure

Feel free to ask any questions.

Thanks for your help everyone and I look forward to contributing to the board.

edit: I also read a post by Mama Bear awhile back that mentioned soap made with real butter. Does Issy make a soap like this? Alright I am done with questions for now, I swear.

Sorry I can't answer all your questions, but I can tell you that my 100% OO soaps last me around 3 months. I use it to wash my face and it is incredibly moisturizing. If moisturizing properties is what you're looking for, look no further!

Thanks for your help everyone. I will be placing an order this weekend when Issy adds the peppermint and others. Right now I am leaning towards 3 100% OO, 1 Spellbound Woods (assuming it is added), and 1 Peppermint.

I pulled the trigger on a few soaps: 100% OO, 80% OO, Brown Sugar & Spice, Peppermint, and Spellbound Woods. I can't wait to try them!

Placed an order for 3 100% OO, 1 Peppermint, and 1 spellbound. Look forward to trying these all out. I plan to use the OO soaps as a facewash, hopefully they are gentle enough as my skin has been pretty dry lately. Thanks for the advice guys.

Gents, you will be quite happy. Issy makes a great bar of soap, no matter which you choose. Be sure to put it in a soap dish when you're done, as this is real soap, and won't last as long if you don't.
