View Full Version : Soft vs. Hard Water

I am at a hotel/casino today in North Kansas City. The shower water felt very soft (slick). After my shower, I pulled out my TSD Bay Rum (Thanks Will), and as I was traveling, did not bring a lather bowl. Just lathered right in the 8 oz container. The lather didn't come as fast as normal, but when it did - boom. Maybe because I was lathering in the container, therefore always adding soap, but maybe because of the "soft water" Hmmmm. Also, after my first pass, the lather became super slick, great cushion, and I had an overall excellent shave. I am now wondering about conditioning the water at my home. I wish I had brought my own personally made soap to test it out. I will next time I visit.
Has anyone else noticed this phenomena? Is it the water, or the lathering technique ( always being in the soap supply)?

I have. I have a full house water softener at home. Work water is harder. I get bigger and better lathers at home it seems. We go through about 2 bags of potassium a month.
The first thing I did when we moved into the new house was put in a soft water system. Once you have one, it's hard to go back. :rofl

Alas this is a problem i have been dealing with since my enlightenment. It seems that i live in a town that has notoriously hard water. Clouding all my tableware, rusting my flatware, and making it very hard to get a slick lather. Seems the easiest way to overcome this problem is buying distilled water by the gallon and heating it up per shave. Im looking for a cost effective solution to this and was even thinging of getting a under the counter water softener but this just doesnt fit my budget seeing that i live in an apartment complex. Truely this water is something to be feared, when i first moved to town i got numerous warnings not to drink the tap water unless i wanted kidney stones in a few months.

The hotel I stayed at in Boston had VERY soft water.....I was practically slippin' 'n slidin' all over the place on my lather :D
