I know ive posted this before.....but....well....i have come to the conclusion im not an every day shaver. For some reason....2-4 days of growth give me great shaves....
If i try a daily shave, it leaves me..well...patchy. These are sharp blades and technique hasnt changed. Maybe its the length of hair and the razor having trouble picking up something that close or what not.
Just thought i would share my sad story.

It's all about what's right for you. I assume you have worked on the patches by J-hooking etc.... as shown in Mantic's video?
Even as a follow up to a straight shave sometimes this works.

I think by "patchy" he means red patches of irritation and visual "patches" of obvious skin aggravation.
Weird. When I first started wetshaving, I was the same way -- had to skip a day or so, or else my neck was all tore up with redness... probably from overshaving? As my technique got more refined (or my skin turned more leathery or something) I was able to shave daily, and now I shave every day, and only skip days when I cannot block out the required 20 to 30 minutes to devote to shaving.
I'm not saying that your technique needs to improve -- not at all. Just saying that I was the same way, but fortunately it worked itself out. Good luck!

How sad - to think we are saddened by not being able to shave daily. I don't know what is worse, being sad about not shaving every day or being saddened - oh crap - never mind. :D

The hot towel treatments might indeed work their magic for you. Let us know how it goes, and don't forget the Velva! ::

To be honest I would love to shave everyother day, I would have more fun and take longer night shaves but I HAVE to be clean shaven.
Splashin on some Aftershave evey morning is a MUST though.
Aqua Velva will do just fine. ::

I have one patch in he hollow under my chin that just refuses to co-operate. It takes an extra amount of passes from different angles to be able to get rid of it and it poses the highest risk of me nicking myself. I can get away with wearing jeans and a polo shirt to work since I don't deal with customers but it's not unusual for me to get called into a meeting with VPs and above so I have to at least be clean shaven and neatly groomed. You can still practice making lathers and technique though. Aftershave splash works anytime. Good Luck Isaac!

Someone posted that maybe SRE isnt for you, i know that saddens you to think of. How about this since you are about an every other day shaver now on the off days you use a DE that way you get the best of all wet shaving worlds. Plus poor little Stubby there wont get lonely.

Isaac, I say do what your brother said. Shave with a DE on the off days.
I don't think I want to know who Stubby is though.

Could be the Velva causing the "wild" patches, better beware! :D

If i do that....then i dont get that two days of growth. Might as well just shave with the straight. And i have no clue what Stubby is either..maybe he means my Simpson CHUBBY.

Hi Isaac,
I have to say the hot towels, applied for maybe 1-2 minutes, have made a noticeable difference in my DE shaves. The other thing I'd recommend would be to try that Mr. Glo pre shave soap with lime oil (made by Musgo Real). Michael (Leisureguy uses it daily, and swears by it. Hehe, his gleeful ravings have caused me to spend many dollars, NOT that I regret it! You don't rinse it all the soap off after using before your shave, and the glycerin helps keep your face slicker. I've tried it and it does work. If you like, I have a bar you're welcome to. It's only been used 8-10 times. It's got an interesting lime scent to it.
Pm me if you're interested in trying it......if not, then just trying the towels may very well help.
Martin
