Brian, what is an aftershave conditioner? That sounds awefully nice!

It is really an Aftershave milk. Anherb is an Indian Company, and they produce an Aftershave Conditioner and Aftershave gel. I am sure Rene can supply any additional details....as he was the supplier and knows all there is to know about it. All natural ....with a touch of menthol.

Man, I forgot how slick and moisturizing the ToOBS Avacado cream is. It was one of my first creams, and I definitely need to work it into my rotation on a more regular basis. I didn't even need an A/S balm.

The combination of the Avacado and the Nancy Boy Replenishing (cucumber) cream (used as a pre-shave prep straight on the face) yielded one of the smoothest and most irritation-free shaves to date! I knew there was a use for this new Nancy Boy cucumber cream... not too wild about the scent, but I smelled like a summer salad while shaving! ::git

The French olive oil soap I got in a trade left a lot to be desired. Maybe its just my methods, but all olive oil soaps I have tried hold nothing to Mama Bear, QED etc. They just produce a fairly light, airy weak lather. Although it is fairly slick, the lather dissipates way too fast. I think this rather large brick of soap has been downgraded to the shower.

Lately, the Aqua Velva and Coral Skin food have been my go-to after shave combo. I know a lot of people knock the Coral Skin food, but I feel it does a lot of good, especially on a day like today. I really butchered myself with the crappy lather the French soap produced.

Simple, Sue. Look at this SOTD I took last week:
http://www.shavemyface.com/gallery/albums/userpics/11795/SOTD_07_02_02.JPG

I want to reproduce it 1) with less noise, especially in the water drop at the bottom 2) with sharper edges 3) at a faster shutter speed to capture the movement and enhance the textures.

Yes, I’m painfully anal, but it is not that hard to achieve if you have the proper equipment.

Well, if you like the second better, it’s probably because it’s the one I shot with a smaller f-stop. The details are crisper and the light more appealing, but the out-of-focus zone is wider. If you look at the silos of the DE, you’ll see they are blurrier in the second photo than in the first and the third (in that order).

Thank you for the compliments, I shall pursue that series.

It was a gift because I use some of their other stuff. I have to agree that it was a little tough coming off. My guess is the orange oil. I normally use The Nivea Sensitive or Neutrogena Razor Defense.

Sit back sip some Cognac because here comes the NEWS!!

I did a second shave (just now).

Omega Boar
HD with Sharp (4th shave with this blade)
TOM mint (lathered almost directly on face) I put it in a mug for about 20 swirls on the brush)
CVS Aqua Velva type (I always do a splash before a Balm)

Then Trader Joe's PSO as an ASB.

I have a good felling about this, I am killing my face for this to see how this stuff really performs, right now my face feels greasy but no pain, and I darn near killed my self with the shave, todal Neanderthal bad lather one pass but shaved the same area 3 times without rinsing razor.

This shave would have killed a lesser man but I am doing it for the benefit of this forum. If I die tell my wife and son I love them.

It’s weird, I was shaving with my new crappy Feather DE and I was surprised to see I had very good results, on par with those of my Merkur. It all comes down to technique. When you’re skilled enough, any DE tool will do the job.

However, while I was doing my second pass, I thought “Oh, crap” and I took my Feather AC and achieved a near perfect shave with a blade on its 11th round.

I think my DE days are over. I don’t enjoy the “variety” DE offer me anymore. That will be something straight razors will provide from now on (well, when I receive my Tony Miller strop). No, my Sticky is not for sale. It’s the most beautiful DE ever produced and it will be a nice ornament.

Pusser's is my favorite bay rum. First, the bottle is so cool. It’s made of porcelain with a cool metal screwtop stopper, definitely old world and high class. It looks like it has been hand painted too. Think wealthy plantation owner. It’s the only bay rum where I can actually smell real rum. I guess that’s because it’s made by a real rum distiller. It comes off first and fast, and then you get the bay rum scent. Funny though, the bottle doesn’t list the ingredients. It has a medium bite, compared to say Dominica. Bay rum just isn’t bay rum without some bite. The bite is good. Leaves my face cool, refreshed, and smooth. My only complaint is that the scent doesn’t last long enough and the price--$35. Almost good enough to drink.

How would you compare the scent to Dominica; and...have you tried St. John's? (ps - there's a Bay Rum discussion going down in the pre/after shave thread ;))

It's been quite awhile since I've tried St. John's, so I can't give an accurate comparison. I think Pusser's has a more complex scent than Dominica. It probably has something to do with the actual rum. Don't get me wrong, I like Dominica very much, but it's more tradtional. The Pusser's is similar but with added depth and complexity. It smells like a handcrafted aftershave made with love and care in small batches by people who take pride in their product. Afterall Pusser's makes great rum, they probably take the same care with their aftershave. BTW Pusser's W.I. Lime aftershave is just as outstanding!

Manuel,

I've been wondering about Em's Shave Creams. Saw them on her sight but haven't really heard of anyone who's tried them. Can you give us a little summary of how it works for you?

I really like them. I have four scents, and this is how each one smells to me:

Skindicinal -- smells like Weleda.
Bay Rum -- my favorite of her scents; very nice, very spicy.
Woodstock -- very similar in scent to Charles Tyrwhitt Lemon & Cedar, but with a bit more cedar.
Balancing -- fresh, light, clean scent; can't equate it to anything else I own.

They all behave the same. They have the same consistency out of the tube as Kiss My Face, esp. with regard to the amount needed to get a good lather. And just like KMF, they leave my face nicely moisturized afterwards. The only difference, I would say, is that Em's is a lot slicker than KMF.

I've been slow to post a review anywhere b/c I can't find the time to take lather pictures. I will have to remedy that soon.

Bottom line: I'd recommend this cream without hesitation, esp. if you like Bay Rum.

Today I've used a very aged avocado oil soap from my early days.
Somehow it found its way out of the depth of my tiered baskets in the test department (bathroom).
First I wasn't sure what it actually was. Just liked the shape and the big bubbles. No shaving soap for sure. Scent had faded but once I had lathered some off, the texture came out and then I knew what it was. Must be about five years old. I love aged soaps.

Weleda rosemary shampoo for the hair. Great stuff for sure but not for every day. Guess it would dry out too much.

Fragonard's Eau d'Hongrie afterwards. Actually its a men's EDT but its so nice!

Holy CRAP what a shave...

Hot shower
SR 3124
'61 Fatboy w/ Derby Extra blade (Day 1)
QED Bay Rum soap
Alum
Pinaud Bay Rum A/S splash
QED DaVinci Water
MamaBear's Menthol A/S balm
SCS Bay Rum A/S balm
SCS Bay Rum w/ a Twist EdT

The Derby blades, while not the sharpest, are mighty fine. They allow me to experiment (with minimal risk of cuts/nicks) with the settings on my Fatboy... MUCH more so than the Feathers do. I started at "3" on the Fatboy, and ended up at "7" for the final pass and T&C.

The Pinaud Bay Rum burns like a mo fo, and then it's all like .

Rockin like Dokken baby. Amazing what a great shave can make you feel like.
