Do you enjoy something that's a little embarrassing? Music comes to mind for me. I found myself "noddin the head" to an old informations society song... pure energy. It's one of those songs that just makes me happy, no matter my mood. I just have to be careful that nobody else hears it.

Music for me is not a guilty pleasure, simply b/c I don't feel guilty about anything I listen to. But if I were to list a guilty pleasure, it'd be Ben & Jerry Chubby Hubby Ice Cream.

Guilty pleasure... this one dish I make. God, it is so good but I know it has to be coronary on a plate. It tastes kinda similar to Alfredo but not exactly.
Served on fettucini the sause is made from:
a block of feta,
a block of sharp white cheddar,
a whole container of sour cream,
a package of bacon, and
garlic marinated mushrooms.
It is to die for IMO, I forget the exact measurements off the top of my head though as I don't make it often knowing it has got to be bad for me.

Simple fair and tastes but oh so guilty and pleasurable.
Meal:
A small plate of Caesar Salad - glass of Pinot Grigio
A cup of New England Clam Chowder - glass of Pinot Noir
A small plate of angel hair pasta pomodoro - glass of Chianti
Basket of Warm Italian Bread with EVOO and Balsamic Vinegar
A Grilled Rib Eye Steak with Sauteed Mushrooms - glass of Cabernet or Merlot
or a 2lb Maine Lobster with warm butter on side. - glass of Chardonnay
Steamed fresh vegetables w/lemon & garlic
Basmanti Rice Pilaf or Garlic Mashed Potatoes
Dessert:
Soufflle Grand Marnier drizzled with bavarian cream sauce and Grand Marnier Liquor
Coffee
And to top it off, a glass of porto or madeira with a good cigar or pipe.
P.S.
If you want a normal guilty pleasure it would have to be pistachio nuts. I have to close my eyes when going by the 4lb bag at Costco.

Now that is sad.
When I was growing up in Massachusetts, all we could get was the red dyed kind from Iran unless you were in the business of making pistachio ice cream and could get the undyed shelled ones. I thought the red dyed ones were great. When I moved to California, I thought I had died and gone to heaven because the California central valley had hundreds of miles of farms growing pistachios and other nuts and fruits. Roadside stands sold big, ripe, natural pistachios right off the trees. Long story short. I can't keep them in the house. If I know they're in the house they'll be gone in short order. I hope you get to try some sometime. They're not as rich as cashews or macadamia nuts.
I just had a thought. Pistachio scented shave cream. hmmmmm

I'm sorry to say they are not. The reason they are red is to hide all the bruising and imperfections in the nuts. They are smaller and usually less flavorful. They are considered low grade nuts. I didn't know better until I got to CA 24 years ago. Find some nice plain ones. Look for large plump ones with no spotting on the shells. If you see a lot of shriveled looking ones look elsewhere. Most flavored (garlic, jalepeno, etc) ones use the lower end nuts unless they're from the local farm. Let me know if you have trouble finding them.

If you're curious, this is the actual recipe. I'll write it as I found it on the web awhile back and add my comments in parathesis.
Ingredients:
1 clove garlic
1 small tub sour cream
250g feta cheese
300g sliced bacon
1/2 cup grated tasty cheese (so the author never addressed the actual type, I like a nice sharp white cheddar)
1/4 cup milk
12 sliced mushrooms (basic white mushrooms work but the garlic marinated in a jar from the grocery add a wonderful sweet flavor to the dish in my opinion, I also increase from 12 because I like the mushrooms alot)
1tbsp corn flour
fettuccini for 4
Spray pan with cooking spray. Slice garlic and saute in pan. Add bacon and mushrooms, fry until cooked. Set aside.
Add milk to a clean pan and stir in corn flour until paste is formed. Add feta and cheese. Simmer on low and stir until creamy. Remove from heat. Add bacon and mushrooms. Allow to cool 1 minute. Stir in sour cream.
Serve sauce on cooked fettuccini.

Heart Attack on a Plate. Sure sound good. I printed that one off to go along with my shrimp over lingunie, Atomic Buffalo Turds, and beanless chili (my wife can't eat beans because of her kidneys).
My guilty pleasure is an occasional fine cigar and Macallans 18.

That's why I don't make it often, the combination of that much cheese, sour cream, and bacon I know has to provide a massive number of calories. But oh boy, the few occasions when I do make it I love it. :drool

Oh yea, those are bad. Some girls I was friends with in college got on a peanut butter kick one year and somehow, I think I ended up trying some stuff they said was really good, they dragged me into it and since then pretty much anything with PB I'll eat and love. Darn girls! :p
