It took me about a year to be a comfortable DE shaver but that I am. I've been getting BBS shaves and really, my DE life couldn't be better. I usually shave N-S, Ear to Chin diagonally, then Ear to Nose straight across. Still, in the quest for something better, I've been shaving Ear to Chin diagonally, Ear to Nose straight across, and either a straight ATG or a diagonally from below the ear to the nose ATG. I've removed the N-S pass altogether.

Maybe it's an indication of improved skill as well but I'm getting a closer shave. I find my face is still smooth much later in the day. I haven't gotten any irritation and my shaves aren't any longer in trying to be more careful. I don't know if this would work after a 2-3 day growth though. And I definitely don't recommend it for beginners. For experienced shavers, this could be a shortcut.

Telly, very interesting. Raf mentioned something not long ago about using a "chevron"-type approach. I just never thought about skipping the N-S pass first. Thanks for sharing the idea.

I like to use the N-S as a gauge for the shave. If I'm doing a short shave, I'll do two passes at 45XTG crosswise only.

My opinion and let me emphaisze this that this is my opinion that the closeness of the shave is mostly due to the quality of the razor that you are using. Sure the blade plays into the matter, but I believe that the razor does most of the work there. In my humble opion you have found the correct razor for you. I think I have found the correct razor for me. :bounce015
