This straight is a ebay special I got for $5. I have not had the chance to hone it so last night I spend about one hour on the stones. I have to say that it was a very smooth shave after it took the edge. Just 2 passes and some touch up for a smooth BBS. Not bad for $5.

I have a DD and a Clauss on the way, can't wait to try the DD.

Great looking shot Yukio!

How did you pull the color out except for the brush?

Simple, it only took a minute to do that as the blue of the letters were the only colours that stood out. Here’s what I did step by step:

Optional:
– Adjustments => Selective color => cyan
– Cyan & black + 100% (it allows to make the blue colours stand out even more)

Now the real thing:
– In the toolbox, select the magic wand
– Use it on a letter, then right click and choose “similar”
– Right click and “select inverse”. Now whatever you do to the image will alter everything but the letters
– “Desaturate” the image or use the “channel mixer” (I used the latter)
– Voilà

It really takes no more than one or two minutes once you’re used to doing it.

Soap technique (started 1 week ago) - Soak Brush in hot water/1 tsp glycerin while showering. Cover soap with warm water after shower. Rinse face with hot water. Empty shave bowl and shake out brush. Dump soap water into bowl. Quick swirl brush into soap water and apply to face. Swirl again in soap water. Dump little remaining. Charge brush in soap until some lather over sides. Make lather on face. Add water as needed each pass. Hot water rinse between passes. Still good lather in brush at end of 3 passes plus cleanup lather.

I actually did customize the brush holder but not the razor part (the razor fits like a charm), but a while ago....and to fit my SR 3124. It does fit the B&B brush too, but you have to balance it...and a strong breeze would teeter it over. I will have to bend the brush portion forward more to fix the balance issue.

If you don't mind me asking, Joe, where did you buy the Floid After Shave. It's been on my wish list for some time.

John

Hi John....have you tried it? Its quite possibly my favorite AB/AS, and I got it from a very good friend who was traveling in Italy  I do know of someone who could possibly have a bottle or two for sale in the states (no, its not me).....this stuff is tough to source b/c of the high shipping. Yowza yowza yowza. First time with both the Proraso Pre/Post and the Trumper's Coconut. The Trumper's was easily the quickest lather I've ever generated... seemed to explode right out of the bowl!!! Don't you just love it when you shake out JUST the right amount of water, and your water:cream ratio is spot-on from the beginning? It doesn't happen very often (for me) but when it does, what a shave!

I can tell the Proraso Pre/Post will make all the soaps and creams I use be extra-extra cooling between passes... and it probably takes away from the scent of most of them.... but I like it nonetheless so far. Will probably relegate it to a summertime only kind of thing...

Simple. The camera is on a tripod. I press the shutter button with my left hand* while I create small waves with my right hand. What is important here is exposure time. If it is too long, the water will be uniformly blurry/foamy; it if is too quick, you’ll freeze the movement. Here the shutter speed was 0.625s.

* you can also use a remote control or the self-timer

Thank you! I'm pleased you're pleased!

Awesome technique. Thanks for the tip.

I need to get a tripod. :(

I don't really care for the Storm Force scent, but the shave was great, and the Boots soap has an excellent lather. The Anherb conditioner always delivers!

Ugh. Went for ATG on my lower neck... sometimes it works... most of the time it doesn't. Today it didn't... BIG time. Have some serious redness, irritation and burning along my lower neck. Rest of the face... BBS. Not even extra Nancy Boy gel can help... I think I'm about ready to give up on a BBS neck most of the time. :( :( :angry021

Jason, I'm with you.
BBS on my neck ALWAYS means pain and suffering.
Check your grain really well and go for 1 WTG then 1 XTG only.
For me, my grain at the bottom grows from nose to ear so
WTG would mean an E-W (W-E) swipe(s).
I usually go for 1 S-N pass (XTG) followed by a
SE-NW pass (more aggressive XTG but NOT ATG).
Those 2 for me get the bottom managable but not BBS.
And that's OK.

Word. For me, my lower neck all the way across grows straight up (S-N) so my initial pass for my face is:

Everywhere N-S (forehead to feet), except for, starting about halfway down my neck, I go S-N from the bottom of my neck on up, stopping again about halfway down my neck. That's the first pass.

On my lower neck, I do 2 XTG passes (E-W, then W-E) and usually stop there. When I'm feeling extra freaky (or extra suicidal) I then squeeze the middle of my brush to pull up all the extra-lubricious lather, and lather up well and then attempt a N-S pass on my lower half of my neck. 90% of the time, even when I attempt it, it turns out like today. For some reason(s) yet unknown, the other 10% of the time I get BBS, irritation-free... and MAN what a feeling!

I gotta narrow down my steps/technique/aligning of the stars somehow to figure it out. I don't *have* to have BBS on my lower neck everyday, but it would be nice to be able to know how to go for it on special occasions, without risking looking like the victim of the Boston Strangler or something...

Oh well.. the journey continues!!! Sorry for hijacking the SOTD thread... carry on soldiers. ;)

Well here goes shaving with just oil ? I dont think it can be done 100% but this oil comes close the TSS. I used quite some drops all over the wet face and use the Dovo straight on one side of the face lots then I saw it had taken off lots of hair and some smurry oil residue.. I decided I wasnt going to gamble with my face and a Straight and grabbed the Col. Conk and use lather on top of the oil. def. the oil helped. felt like a 2nd layer of protection all thru the shave. got extra moistur. and cooling due to the menthol. then I went for the extra menthol kill of the Gel..and to moist. even more went for the Anherb conditioner ahh more cooling.. I hope I dont turn Menthol Junkie T. Joe style

Face feels incredible and now im not sure if its due to the TSS or just because I stacked so many products on top of each other.

Iceman please post in the relevant SOS there is one for 18th.
I know it can be confusing I dont know why we have a new SOS for Sunday till saturday and start a new one on Sunday eachtime...

Let's change it its too confusing I like the other way around of SOS just start one from Monday to sunday eachtime..and a new one on Monday.. makes more sense to me ... but the principle is the same every 8th day a new SOS starts .

Most people do consider Sunday the first day of the week. I prefer to think of Monday as the beginning of the week myself.

I think your suggestion is a good one Rene. Monday-Sunday for the SOS threads. I'll edit this week's SOS to continue until the 25th. That way we can start next week's SOS on Monday.
