What do you feel are the benefits to rotating razors?
Variety
Do you wear the same shoes every day ?
Do you eat the same food every day ?
Do you go home to the same _______ every day. Wait. Dont answer that. ;)
You get my drift ??

I can see that easily. My Merkur Future does not act like my super speed and acts nothing like my 1904 clasic.

It's fun to use and try to master different razors.

I switch razors either for variety or also sometimes if my skin seems to be getting "used to" a particular razor, I'll make a change.

In fact I'm convinced one will get better shaves while sticking to one (favorite) razor, instead of "re-learning" with every switch. Therefore I have four different Weishis. So, I can rotate between them, without actually switching to a different razor, since the only difference is the finish.

Once I honed a couple of new straights and wound up shaving one side of my face with one, and one side with that other.
That my friend, is RAD.

That's an excellent question Catman. I would like to hear other member's opinion on the subject that Catman talked of. Does one get better shaves if you stick to one type of shaver or do you get better shaves by rotating?
I am personally enamored with the Super Speeds, I have two different models of them and I am looking to add a few more models. Perhaps a 40s and 60s models if I can find one of each. Right now I am eyeing a red tip 50s similar to what I have now but a bit different.

I guess it makes sense. Perhaps I pride myself in mastering all my razors. I like the idea of being proficient with my arsenal!

You get better shaves when sticking to one razor because your learn more about "that" razor the more your use it. "EXPERIENCE"!!! The more you use a particular piece of equipment the more expertise you have when using it. You know how to get that BBS shave because you've used it long enough to know the correct angle, technique, pressure, etc. If you constantly switch (like many of us do) there is always the learning curve, whether it's one day or three. You soon get the hang of the new razor, but different razors do require different technique.
IMHO...
And as always...
Enjoy your shave...:D

I like to rotate my razors but I always stick with any particular one for at least a week. I think that is the minimum number of shaves I need to really get a good appreciation for the razor and its unique characteristics.

I rotate, My favorite is gillette "L" 1966, the year my wife and I were married. the second is my "fat boy" because of the heft. the third is my "red tip" also because of heft and aggressiveness. I often forget how many shaves I have had and don't remember to change blades.I have at least a dozen razors in two stands on my counter. sometimes i grab other razors just for a variety.

No, that speaks to your firmness of character as you refuse to be caught up in the DE-collecting mania. :D

Amateur... :rofl
But seriously, I rotate among about ten or so straights, and depending on when I need to use a DE razor (usually due to the fact that I got my lazy butt up too late), I rotate among about four DEs anymore. I think I have about ten, but only use about four now. Guess that makes me the amateur. :D

What's stopping you from putting the remainder into the rotation? I have two that are not in the rotation and there is a reason that there not in, they are terrible quality. Got them for free from an internet distributor. Would really be angry if I had to pay for thsoe two.

As far as the straights, I have a couple I just don't use much anymore, but haven't sold off yet or keep for sentimental reasons. (Like a Garantie 4/8 square point...nothing at all wrong with it, but 4/8 is a little small now. The reason I haven't sold it yet is that it was the first straight I ever bought.) As far as the DEs, when I first started, I picked up a few different ones to try out, but some of them were just pickups at a local antique store, so I wasn't out much. I found the four or five that work for me, and since I now use straights most of the time anyway, I never seem to get around to the other ones.

I try and use a razor for at least a week and sometimes two or three weeks. For me, the learning curve is such that while I rarely cut myself up anymore, to get a truly great BBS shave, it takes me a couple of shaves to get used to a specific razor. That is when I'm using DEs. Straight razors are entirely different for me in that I can get a great shave pretty much every time with no learning curve.
